S BEING ANANDREW

T hink about it. Celebration of Hope (CoH) is really not about us trying to make it a success. Rather, CoH

is a God-given opportunity for us to thrive and shine as His witnesses—especially in our bicentennial year.

In this kairos season, we are being encouraged to follow the inspiring example of a lesser-known disciple by the name of Andrew who is sometimes called The Bringer. Largely overshadowed by his dynamic brother, Simon Peter, we know little about Andrew. But what we do know is highly significant. Andrew personally took the initiative to find his brother and invite him to come and see Jesus (John 1:35-42). It seemed like a very small act. Yet this ministry of The Bringer is big and very important in God’s work.

In Singapore today, many are committed followers of Christ because:• someone cared enough to be a true

friend• someone introduced them to Jesus

via a conversation• someone invited them to an Alpha

Course • someone brought them to a church

event or cell meeting

And we can add that many met Christ because someone brought them to the Billy Graham Rallies in 1978.

Towards Celebration of Hope, Christians are inspired to be an Andrew through the Andrew Initiative Training. The sessions conducted thus far have been very well attended, with the last one here fully subscribed. The training is informative, inspiring, and practical. The atmosphere is electrifying as Christians from many different churches and denominations rub shoulders and learn from anointed trainers who speak with passion. Many are gaining a new-found confidence to be effective witnesses for Christ. They will never be the same again!

So, if you have yet to attend the Andrew Initiative Training, please note the session coming up.

Pray that the National Stadium as well as the OCBC Arena (Tamil Rally) will be filled to maximum capacity at every meeting.

DIOCESE Church of the Good ShepherdPray for divine provision of abundant financial resources for the construction of a new four storey building (which will include a new sanctuary and multi-purpose hall) that is in progress.

Pray for the new English congregation morning service which was launched on 3 March. Since the church’s humble beginnings in 1963, their services have always been held on Sunday afternoons. This is an exciting opportunity for the church to reach out to a new crowd and when the new sanctuary is completed in the second quarter of 2020, there can be a nucleus to fill the new space with a whole new congregation.

CATHEDRAL Cathedral PodcastThank God for the launch of our Cathedral Podcast on 2 March. Pray that the Lord will bless and multiply the use of this resource to help believers integrate their faith with the issues of life.

Batam Medical Missions (16-17 March) Pray for journey mercies for the more than one hundred volunteers as they travel to four villages to provide medical aid. Pray that the villagers will experience God’s love through the care and medical attention they receive.

Lat Krabang Mission (Bangkok)Pray for Lawrence and Lynn as they continue to assist with the work at the Cornerstone English Teaching Center and the mission of Lat Krabang Anglican Church.

WORLDIndia-Pakistan tensionsPray for speedy resolution of the standoff between India and Pakistan, following heightened hostilities and a string of violent escalations.

Pray for the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan and their governments - that they would exercise restraint, seek diplomacy instead of aggression and retaliation; that they will not resort to nuclear arsenal and will make every effort to avert a full-fledged war.

Pray for peace in divided Kashmir, for an end to fighting and violence across the de-facto border as they might bear the brunt of any destructive turn of events. Pray for the protection of lives of civilians in border villages and for provision of food supplies, medicine, gas and petrol.

SINGAPOREPray for Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam and his team of officials for wisdom to tackle the threat of foreign interference with Singapore’s domestic affairs through legislation and other means. Pray for alertness to such threats and "fake news", and up to date knowledge of "digital-age tactics". That Singaporeans will be discerning as well in regards to truth.

Celebration of HopePublicity for COHPray that through the banners, posters, social media and other communication channels, Celebration of Hope will be widely and effectively publicised throughout Singapore. Pray that thousands of non-Christians will read or hear about COH and be drawn by the Holy Spirit to the evangelistic meetings.
