SEATTLE RECORDER SOCIETY April 2017 Vol. XLVIII, No. 8 www.seattle-recorder.org Recorder Notes SRS Meeting Friday, April 7th, 2017 @ 7:30 pm Annual SRS Meeting Playing Session (Matthias Maute) Praetorius, Handel, a Yiddish song, and Maute All sizes of recorders and viols are welcome. Low bass recorders are needed! No Backroom Gang Join the large group! From the Music Director (Vicki Boeckman; photo by Bill Stickney) ; Newsletter Deadline for May Issue: Sunday, April 23rd Greetings, Everyone, Another whirlwind of a month! Let us embrace the spring equinox with new intents and the fire to ignite them. Take delight in the scintillating yellow hues that the forsythia and daffodils are so proudly displaying. Experience the bubbling joy within at the very sight of a budding tree, and allow ourselves to take time to fully ‘drink in’ the intoxicatingly fragrant Daphne odora that are so abundant in the Pacific Northwest. What a gorgeous time of year. April, here we come! The April 7th meeting will be led by our very special guest, Matthias Maute. There will not be an opening program, but please do be on time so that we can hold our SRS annual meeting to elect our new officers. All sizes of recorders from sopranino on down to contra are needed, the more low basses the better, and of course viols are always welcome. Matthias has already sent the music to be copied, so if anyone needs music ahead of time please let me know what part you are interested in, and I will send a pdf as soon as I can. Here is what he has planned for us. The music for the SRS playing session will range from music of the 17th century to music composed as recently as a few years ago: Praetorius’ dances will partner with Handel’s dramatic “Ombra mai fu,” Sting’s melancholy “Fields of Gold,” “Oi dortn”—a Yiddish song, and a piece by Matthias himself. See you soon, everyone! Remember to put the “Dueling Recorders” concert on your calendar for Saturday, April 8th, or Sunday, April 9th! (For details, see the recent email from Betty Swift with concert flyer and the newsletter Calendar section.)
