TOPIC (Science)
Focus: Classification of animals
Scientists organise living things into groups. Each group has common characteristics. Do you remember this clip on BBC bitesize from a few weeks
ago? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zn22pv4/articles/z3nbcwx
Main Task:
1. Sometimes scientists use (or even design) keys to help identify living things and the group they belong to. Watch the following clip on BBC
bitesize. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zxjj6sg/articles/z9cbcwx
2. Now we are going to use a classification key. Go to the school website http://www.woodwater.devon.sch.uk/children/upper-key-stage-2/ to
access Topic 6.7.20 alien classification key.
3. Use this classification key to identify the name of each alien. Start with alien ‘a’ and use the questions to help identify its name. See if you
can identify the name of every alien from a – l. Record the names in a neat list in your book. (In case you’re not sure, ‘antennae’ are long thin
sensors on the head!)

Remember to read every day for
20 minutes as you would do at
school. You are aiming to achieve
an 80% pass rate when you quiz.
We will be checking your
percentage scores; looking at how
much you are reading; and will be
in touch to see how you are
getting on.
