Reconstruction of Access Channel for Ship Entrance into the Port Project concept.
Tasks: specify approximate parameters of the access channel; define changes in guidelines; develop channel route location proposal; calculate approximate volume of dredged soil; develop new channel picketage
Objective-
Define main parameters of access channel reconstruction
Further activities(I)
1. implement environmental impact assessment procedure related to the planned activity.
2-1. perform relevant geological, hydrological and hydrodynamic research, perform soundings, investigate and assess water ecological systems, including fish resources, to develop project documentation.
Further activities(II)
2.2. Receive technical and special terms and conditions from public and municipal institutions.
2.3. Elaborate work project documentation for hydro-technical structures’ reconstruction on the basis of preliminary investigations and environmental impact assessment results, identifying risks and specifying optimal technological solutions with the aim to reach the set objectives: Ensure the shipping fairway depth up to 15,5 m at the section
from Kurpnieksala up to the middle of Kundzinsala . Ensure fairway depth up to 17 m from the reception buoy up to
the northern part of Kurpnieksala , Ensure fairway width at apprx . 180 m .
Further activities(III)
2.4. Parallel to work project elaboration the hydro-technical structures , that are related to access channel and have to be reconstructed, are identified as well as issues , that were specified in the process of EIA development.
3.1. Hydro-technical structures’ reconstruction performed by stages.
It is planned to perform reconstruction works of separate sections by stages in compliance with technological solutions, provided in the project.
Characteristics of the Riga port Shipping fairway
Hydro-technical structures(LR “Law on Ports”): Main shipping fairway, Access to berths, Shoreline reinforcements, berths, turning basins , piers, Current regulating jetties, breakwaters, as well as
navigation equipment and appliances that are transferred to possession of the Freeport of Riga Authority
