Learning through playAlongside focussed teaching time, the children will have ‘Learning through play’ time each day. During this time, the children will access our continuous provision areas. Through play, children
develop language skills, their emotions and creativity, social and intellectual skills. During play the children will apply, consolidate and challenge their skills. Play takes place indoors and outdoors
and it is in these different environments that children explore and discover their immediate world. During their play they practise new ideas and skills, they take risks, show imagination and solve problems on their own or with others. The EYFS team will model, engage and extend their play. We value play and provide safe but challenging environments that support and extend learning and
development.
During ‘Learning through play’ time the children will have access to both the indoor and outdoor environment. Our EYFS environment includes the following areas:

MathsWe take a Mastery approach to the teaching of Maths.
The aim of using a mastery approach is to equip all the children with a deep, secure understanding of number which they can apply to problem solving and reasoning. Using the White Rose Maths Hub alongside NCETM we teach maths with a number a week focus. Throughout reception we focus on a secure understanding of numbers to 20, addition, subtraction, doubling, halving and sharing. We focus on applying mathematical skills and understanding to practical problems using concrete and pictorial representations. Maths is everywhere within the environment and the children have lots of opportunities to extend and apply their problem solving skills within their play. Numberblocks is an excellent resources we use alongside teaching.

Drop off Due to the ongoing guidance set out by the government, unfortunately school’s risk assessment does
not allow parents onto the school site. We understand that your child starting school is a big
milestone and can be emotional for families.
We will be using the school office gate as our entrance, this will be clearly sign posted You will
line up along the pavement (social distanced) and we will collect your children from there.
To support transition on the first stay and play date and the first official day, one
parent/carer will be able to bring your child through the office gate, down the ramp to the
reception gate. Your class teacher will be there to guide and greet you and your child. We will
then guide your child into our outdoor reception area where there will be lots of exciting play
activities set up.
Due to the number of children attending each stay and play session (15) please be aware that this
process will be prompt where possible. You will receive a letter with your given dates and times.
Thank you for your understanding during these unfortunate circumstances, we have made these
decisions to keep all children, families and staff safe. We will remain up to date to guidance
and communicate any changes to these routines.
Please note that once your child is full time the school start time is 8:50

while maintaining social distance. Please be aware this may take a little bit of time to
adjust into the new system.
