Reception Emergency Procedures - Fire

If someone reports a fire you should get a manager/designate to investigate

When the fire alarm is set off a fire panel, usually in

Reception, will show where the alarm has been set off. Send someone to investigate

The manager will tell you to ring the fire brigade

Ring 999, and say…….. “This is (name and address of the

hotel” “I am reporting a fire in our (location of fire if you know where it is)”

They may want your telephone number too.

Use the Public Address System to ask guests and staff to evacuate the hotel

You could say ….. “This is not a drill. Would all guests please

make their way to the fire assembly point in the car park. Please do not return to your room for your belongings”

Evacuating Reception

One receptionist will man the switchboard, answering internal calls only.

Tell guests and staff phoning that “this is not a practice, please evacuate the hotel immediately”

This person will not leave reception until advised by the manager/fire officer

Other Reception Staff will need to …

print off Emergency Reports showing who is in the hotel and what rooms they are in.

These will be passed to a fire marshall or fire officer

lock up the cash in the Hotel Safe along with back-up tapes for the computer system

assist customers with evacuating the hotel …before evacuating themselves
