COMPANY PEI and the MMT are the leaders in

developing and implementing

comprehensive mercury management

programs. PEI specializes in the

sampling, and analysis of mercury-in-

gas phase streams including natural

gas, refinery fuel gas, and olefins. PEI

has developed advanced methods for

the monitoring of mercury-in-gas and

other process gas streams and

developed, and successfully delivered

technology for the removal of mercury

from natural gas and refining process

piping and vessels. PEI’s specialized

phased mercury decontamination

chemistry and methods are based on

extensive research and have been

successfully used to decontaminate gas

processing and refining vessels and

equipment.

Global Engineeringand Technical

Services

PEI and the MMT recently completed a comprehensive mercury management and chemical decontamination projectat a major U.S. Refinery located in Alaska in support of a scheduled Process Unit Turn-Around (TAR). Prior to theTAR, PEI developed a sampling and analysis plan and performed a mercury mass balance study for the process unitusing advanced sampling and analysis methods for hydrocarbon liquids and vapors. After mapping mercurydistribution and flux across the unit PEI developed chemical decontamination plans and procedures for use duringthe TAR. PEI also drafted a TAR Mercury Management Plan which covered personnel decontamination, non-disposable equipment decontamination, exposure monitoring and other critical aspects of the TAR. PEI performed vapor-phase and cascade-phase chemical decontamination using proprietary chemistries designedfor hydrocarbon and mercury removal. PEI’s field laboratory performed continuous sampling and analysis ofchemical phases to measure reaction efficiency. PEI also performed continuous exposure monitoring for the TARusing real-time, active, and passive methods. Mercury and hydrocarbon was removed from all chemical cleaningliquids, refinery rinsates/condensates and vapors to non-detect levels using proprietary technologies facilitatingeasy disposal at the refineries’ waste-water treatment plant.

We take a team approach to solving our clients’

complicated toxic metals problems and provide innovative

solutions based on the latest sampling technology,

analytical methods and chemical science.
