Membership Services

UAB Rec Center Services:CRCT Members are not only able to enjoy many programs, but also utilize our fabulous services!

Locker RentalBoth full and half lockers are available for rent on a yearly basis for members of the CRCT.

Towel ServicesWorkout towels are available for free and may also be exchanged daily at no charge.

Equipment Issue:Sports and fitness equipment are available for rent by CRCT patrons. Equipment includes: basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, weight belts, and more!

ParkingTwo hour parking validation is offered Monday-Friday from 7am to 4pm to CRCT members.

Membership Services

Employee & Member Guest PassesAll employees may enjoy the facility for just $8/day by sponsoring themselves if they are not ready to purchase a membership; no referring member needed!

Guests must be sponsored and pay $8/day at the Welcome Desk when they visit. Guest passes can be purchased for those 19 years and older at all times. Those under 19 are only permitted to participate during the dependent hours and a direct parental/legal guardian relationship must exist. Sponsors will be limited to three guests per day and must adhere to the guest pass guidelines.

Pro ShopForgot your shampoo for your shower after your work out? Want a new racquetball racquet without spending time in long lines? Stop by the Pro Shop at the Membership Services Desk to see a variety of products we offer for purchase at your convenience!

Kid ZoneThe Kid Zone allows kids, ages 3-12, to explore different spaces in the facility such as the climbing wall, basketball courts, racquetball courts, and much more for a variety of activities! The kids are always supervised by a student certified in CPR/AED, and First Aid. The price is $10 a month per child.

The hours are: M-F: 11:30a-1:30p and 4p-8p Sat: 10a-3p Sun: 12p-4p

Please remember children can only remain in the Kid Zone for a maximum of 2 hours. Sign up at the Membership Services Desk today!

Facility Rentals

Basketball Court Spaces:The UAB Campus Recreation Center houses four wood basketball courts that can be separated by three divider curtains. Court spaces can be setup to host a number of events including basketball, volleyball, large gatherings or fairs.

Game Room:Kick back and relax in our newly renovated game room area! This space is setup to bring out the kid in all of us. The game room is home to two billiard tables, three table tennis tables, air hockey, foosball, Wii and XBox.

Center Court:Center Court is a multipurpose space that can be setup for basketball, volleyball, soccer, badminton and floor hockey.

Climbing Wall:The UAB Campus Recreation Climbing Wall stands 36 feet high and 43 feet wide. The wall overlooks the track, fitness area and lobby. No experience needed to climb as we have trained staff to make your experience a safe and enjoyable one.

Outdoor Patio:The Patio is connected to the Aquatic Center and allows you to enjoy the view of the UAB Campus Green. During summer months, patio furniture is provided. This space is available for your next gathering.

Aquatic Center:The UAB Campus Recreation Aquatic Center is a show piece for those interested in leisure or fitness. This space is designed for swimmers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the water. With zero depth entry, we encourage all pool lovers to enjoy our lap lanes, vortex, spa and lazy river.

Birthday Parties:Rental options are also available for those wanting to host a pool party! We host groups of 20-50 participants for up to two hours and will include optional locations for cake and presents! For more information please contact Ray Picone at [email protected].

Fitness Studios:With three studios available for rent, we make it possible for your group to practice for a dance competition, host a meeting or just come have some fun. These spaces vary in size and capacity but are able to be transformed to make nearly every event a fun one!

The UAB Campus Recreation Center offers you the best opportunities for recreation and fitness. You will find everything you need to stay active under one roof – free weights, court sports, swimming pools, group fitness classes, nutrition education, fitness areas, a climbing wall, and much more.

The 150,000 square feet covers three floors: housing four basketball/volleyball courts, five racquetball courts (one of which can be converted to squash and four for wallyball), four aerobics studios, 18,000 square feet of weight and cardio-fitness areas, game room, Kid Zone, aquatics center with both lap and leisure components, Center Court gym used for indoor soccer, floor hockey and badminton, juice bar, indoor track, and a climbing wall.

Are you looking for a summer camp for your child that offers something more? If so, then UAB Campus Recreation Summer Camp Program is your place! We offer nine consecutive weeks of diverse programming with the option of before- or after-care. With the help of our amazing staff your child will have the opportunity to explore adventure sports, exciting crafts, aquatic activities and everything the Rec Center really has to offer.

CAMP EXPERIENCE-Age-appropriate activities for all skill levels-Emphasis is placed on teaching and learning-Diverse games and sports-Arts and crafts-Swimming-Climbing wall-Snacks provided-State-of-the-art facility and activity areas-Team-building activities

DAY CAMPS:Days camps are held at the Rec Center for ages 5-12 years old. Snacks are provided, but campers need to bring their own lunch. Day camps are limited to 50 participants and early registration is encouraged.Price: $30 UAB Employees/Members $40 for Non-Members $5 per additional sibling(s)

SUMMER CAMPS (nine weeks):Summer Camps require a $20 deposit for participant spot reservation. It is $150 for UAB Employee/Members and $180 for non-members, with 10% off additional sibling(s) registration. This amount includes the $20 deposit. Camps begin June 3rd, 2013 and the last week will be July 29th, 2013. Spots are limited to 75 participants per week and early registration is encouraged. Before and after care is available for those on a tight schedule at a cost of $5 per child.

TEAM BUILDING:We offer many teambuilding initiatives, catering to campus groups, corporate outings, school groups and more! Our enthusiastic and skilled facilitators will guide your group through fun activities focused on enhancing or developing vital workplace and life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, communication, and trust. Our program can accommodate groups of any size. The prices below reflect the number of participants:

Instructional Fitness ClassesParticipate in a more progressive and educational based fitness class by signing up for one of our Instructional Classes. Progress at a quicker rate and enjoy all the fitness benefits from classes like: Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Latin Dance, and more!

Studio VStudio V is our premier fitness studio offering high intensity interval and performance enhancement classes. With a variety of classes, such as TRX Training, HIIT, Bootcamp, Kettlebell Basics, and Xtreme Cross Training, offered throughout the year, this studio will challenge anyone’s fitness level.

Nutrition CounselingSign up for personal nutritional counseling and learn how to develop a personalized nutrition plan; assess your diet; learn preventative methods; gain knowledge about weight management techniques; learn tips and tricks on how to eat healthy while eating out; and how to choose healthy options at the grocery store.

Massage TherapyCelebrate a little “you” time by scheduling a massage! Sessions are available in the Wellness Resource Center for 30 or 60 minute increments and performed by certified massage therapist. Sign up for a massage appointment today by emailing [email protected]

Wellness CateringThis program is designed to deliver recreation-related topics to the UAB community. Presented by a recreational professional, in a small-group setting, topics vary. Student Organizations and Departments have the opportunity to pick a topic to be presented at staff meetings, lunch groups or a time of your choice.

HEALTHY CLASSICSNutrition Basics: This seminar, presented by a registered dietician, addresses various nutrition topics allowing plenty of time for your questions.

Exercising 101: This class takes participants through putting together a simple exercise plan that you are guaranteed to stick with!

Camping for Beginners: This class is a must if you are new to outdoor adventures! Discussion topics will include wilderness tips, checklists and common mistakes.

FITNESS SPECIALSFree Weight Exercises: Learn the benefits of using free weights as well as simple exercises to do at home or the gym. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels.

Stability Ball Exercises: This session teaches how to select a stability ball that is right for you. Through demonstrations, you will be shown a variety of exercises and uses for the ball. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels.

Pilates: Pilates is a conditioning mat workout designed to stretch and strengthen your body. Stability balls and resistance bands will be incorporated into this class which is appropriate for all fitness levels.

CUSTOM CREATIONS & CROWD PLEASERSDude, There’s Sand in My Eggs: Take home clear cut instructions as well as tons of advice on how to purchase, pack, prepare and clean up dinners outdoors.

Why is My Sleeping Bag Wet? This session details simple steps for choosing a campsite, setting up a tent and breaking camp without leaving a trace.

Why do I Feel Lopsided? This session offers practical advice on proper techniques and how to lighten the load when packing. You will learn what you really need, and what you can do with out.

My Stomach Doesn’t Feel So Good: Learn different methods and the simple steps to purifying water before drinking or cooking with it.

Outdoor Adventure

Trip SeriesThe Outdoor Pursuits department of the UAB Campus Recreation Center offers a variety of Adventure trips. We travel all over the country to bring you the best in outdoor recreation for all skill levels. Trip activities include backpacking, boating, biking, climbing, caving, and more!

Many new trips are added to the scheduled every year, while popular trips are offered every year on the same weekend, and some trips are offered every other year to keep a variety of trips rotating though our schedules. Pre-trip meetings are held on Tuesday nights to cover activities, pass out equipment, and discuss food suggestions. The trip fee covers transportation, park entry fees, skilled leaders, sleeping arrangements, and equipment. Food and clothing are not included in the trip price.

Outdoor Adventure

Climbing WallThe Campus Rec indoor climbing wall stands at 36 feet high and is over 43 feet wide. Features include two arête climbs, overhanging elements and slab climbing. It is an Entre-Prises Imprint design, with over 1500 square feet of climbing surface. Our climbing routes are set and rated by our highly qualified staff using the Yosemite Decimal System.

Indoor climbing offers the advantages of climate controlled enjoyment. No need to worry about rain or blistering heat when you are climbing in an air conditioned environment. The wall is open for climbing seven days a week during designated hours with an experienced staff on hand to assist you.

Equipment RentalThe Campus Rec Outdoor Pursuits rental program is ready to equip you with any gear you need to enjoy the wilderness and outdoor resources in the Southeast! Equipment can be rented by UAB affiliates and community members alike. With the largest boat rental fleet in the city, we have over 50 different canoes, kayaks and sea kayaks ready for rental. Reservations are recommended and can be made online as well as over the phone.

The Pool area offers something for everyone in a unique and spacious design. Get a great workout in with lap lanes and aqua aerobic classes or relax with the lazy river or by soaking in the hot tub! The pool area can also be reserved for parties!

Available Certifications:The UAB Campus Rec Aquatics department offers many swim classes as well as safety certifications such as CPR and Lifeguard.

• CPR/First Aid/AED• Lifeguard• Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

Parent and Child Aquatics:Parent and Child Aquatics are for ages 6 months to 3 years old. Parents and children learn together through two fun-filled levels to increase children’s comfort in the water and build a foundation of basic aquatic and water safety skills.

Pre-School Aquatics:Pre-School Aquatics’ primary objective is to promote the “developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water safety and aquatic skills” by young children between 4 and 5 years of age. Pre-School Aquatics consists of three levels.

Learn to Swim:Learn to swim works with participants from 6 years old through adulthood. It teaches aquatic and personal water safety skills in a logical progression. Progressive levels are used to help participants of varying ages and abilities develop their water safety, survival and swim skills.

Competitive Sports

IntramuralsAll UAB students, staff, and faculty are eligible to participate in intramural sports. Faculty and Staff must adhere to the specific entrance policies if they are not campus recreation facility members. Individuals in any team league must have their campus card with them to be eligible to participate.

Team LeaguesEvery team league is offered in men’s, women’s and co-rec format. Each league will have a 4week regular season followed by a single elimination playoff. Fall leagues will include: flag football, indoor soccer, dodge ball, water polo, floor hockey, and volleyball. Spring leagues will include: basketball, indoor soccer, softball, tennis, indoor football, kickball, and ultimate frisbee.

Competitive Sports

Individual Tournaments / EventsAll single day tournaments are single or double elimination. Tournaments offered include: badminton, corn hole, billiards, table tennis, swimming, track & field, triathlon, Texas Hold’em, and sand volleyball.

Fantasy SportsFantasy Sports are also offered through the Intramural program. Current sports offered include: football, pig skin pick-em, NCAA basketball tourney, and baseball. Simply register online and you will be given the league ID and password. Each league will be in a head-to-head format and the draft is done online.

Club SportsA Club Sport is an organized group of individuals established to promote interest in a sport and develop skills of its members in that sport. A Club Sport may be organized for recreational, instructional, performance, or competitive purposes. We currently offer rugby, fishing, triathlon, tennis, lacrosse, and more!

Community LeaguesAnyone 18 years of age or older is eligible to participate. All community leagues are open to both UAB affiliated and non-UAB affiliated persons. Current sports offered include: flag football, basketball, indoor soccer, and volleyball.
