Introduction Whaling is the hunting of whales mainly for meat

and oilAccording to an April 15th, 2010 article on whale

hunting, it states “Despite a 1986 international moratorium on commercial whaling, the numbers of whales killed annually has been rising steadily, to near 1,700 in 2009 from 300 in 1990, as the three whaling nations have either opted out of treaty or claimed to be taking whales only for legitimate scientific study.”
