All of us know perfectly well how to spend money but few only know how to save. In this generation where people always claim that money comes fleeting in their hands, surely there are endless reasons why we are having a hard time setting aside money as savings.

“I don’t have enough money.”

People have infinite wants and needs. How can we think that our money is enough when we have this mindset?

No matter how small your income is, there must be, even a cent of it, that you can set aside. And if your income is not much, all the more you have to save money in case there’s an emergency.

“I have other financial priorities.”

We all have priorities but still, there are people out there who can save enough money for their emergency funds. People these days succumb to the need to indulge themselves in buying what’s latest. This is a common mistake especially among young professionals.

No matter how updated you are right now, chances are, sooner or later there will be another advancement in the trend that will make your recent stuff obsolete. So, you might as well settle into what satisfies your need.

“I still have debts to pay.”

Worry no more, my comrade. Paying debt is considered as an investment. The only thing that can turn this into a negative situation is when you acquire another debt to pay. 

“I don’t know much about money matters.”

Oh, we don’t know much about life either but we still keep on living - surviving, and some, thriving. Who cares if you’re not into finance? Just set aside a little amount of money, count it when the time comes, do not spend it unless it’s an emergency. That’s all the basics you need to know in saving.

“I just can’t do it.”

The lamest excuse you can state is this. If others can do it, why can’t you? The thing here is that saving is just a matter of having the right mindset and enough discipline. The only way to save money is to start saving. You can’t say you can’t do it when, in the first place, you really don’t want to do it because we know how to make a way when we want something badly.

Saving money can help us a lot in all aspects of our lives. This also makes us more effective in handling budgets. We should learn to prevent financial pitfalls so we won’t end up complaining about money. Remind yourself each day what wise financial experts always say,

“Control your money before your money controls you.”
