A water tank develops a leak at the bottom. When the tank is in good condition, it gets filled in 3.5 hr. Itnow takes half an hour longer for the tank to get completely filled. If the tank is full, how long would it

takefor the leak to empty the tank?

Solution . .

• 1/3.5 – ¼ = .5/14 or 1/28

• Thus the leak will empty the filled up tank in 28 hours.


There are two women participating in a chess tournament. Each

participant played two games withevery other participants. The

number of games played by the men among themselves exceeded by 63

than the number of games played by men against women. How many

participants were there in thetournament?

Solution . .

• Let us assume that the number of men is M. • ((m-1)*m )/2 - 2M = 63• M^2 – M - 4M = 126• M^2 -5M-126 = 0• M^2 – 14M +9 M – 126 = 0• M (M-14)+9(M-14) = 0• M = 14 or -9 • Thus there are 14 Men and 2 women total is

A figure is composed of 6 squares in horizontal line, each with side ‘s’ cm. If the number of centimetresin the perimeter of the figure is equal to the number of square

centimetres in its area, the value of ‘s’ is

• Area of the new rectangle: 6s*s= 6s^2

A cellphone company, AIRFREE, decides to give the first 10 min of airtime free of cost if a person

purchases the instrument from them, else it charges Re.1 per minute. For the next 20 min of airtime it

charges its subscriber Rs. 4.5 per minute. The next 20 min are charged at Rs. 8 per minute. Thereafter,

with every 10 min increase in airtime, the charge per minute drops by Re. 1, falling to a mimimum of

Re.1 per minute. Bitthal buys the phone from Palika Bazaar, and then subscribes to AIRFREE company.His first bill shows an airtime of 2 hr 20 min. How

much is he required to pay?

• 10 minutes = 10• Next 20 minutes: 4.5 *20 = 90• Next 20 = 8 = 160• Next 10 Minutes: 7 = 70• Next 10 : 60• Next 10 = 50 • Next 10 = 40 • Next 10 = 30 • Next 10 20, 10, 10, 10. total is 560 answer.


In the given figure, OX and OY are tangents and A and C are the centres of the circles. Find P- Q?


Solution .

• OX and OB will be equal as they are tangent to a circle. Thus their angles will be equal. 180 – 56 = 124 divided by 2 gives 62. 90 – 62 gives 28 degree thus P is 28 degrees. Similarly, Q is 19 degrees. Thus their difference is 9 degrees answer.


Keshav started journey with his car from Bikaner with tank full of fuel,

12 gallons exactly. However,the moment he started out, the fuel tank sprung a leak. He travelled at 50 miles per hr until he ran out of

fuel exactly 4 hr later. Knowing that the car runs 25 miles for each

gallon, how much fuel did he losethrough the hole?


Solution . . .

• 50 * 4 = 200 Miles

• 200 / 25 = 8 gallons were used.

• Thus 4 gallons was leaked out.


A crazy mathematician (Hulash) went on listing all the six-digit numbers divisible by

7, 8 and 9. Then he deletedall the numbers which had not 523 as their first three digits. Which of the following may

A 10 hectares field is reaped by 2 men, 3 women and 4 children in 10

• Let us convert all to children :

• In the first case we have 5+6+4 = 15 children
