‘Lime Slaking’
“…the way the quicklime is slaked can mean the difference between a slaked lime of very fine particle size, high surface area and porosity that is slow settling and chemically very reactive …” versus lime that is coarse, settles quickly and has low reactivity.
Taken from US Lime Association Handbook

‘Lime Slaking’How does it work?
•Chemical reaction of water & quicklime creates heat – as lime particles bind with water they break up into smaller particles.
•Generally at higher temperatures, and with good exposure to water, the lime particles ‘explode’ or ‘burst’ into smaller particles.
