READING - ISA 8:11-19

ISA 8:11 The LORD spoke to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people. He said:

ISA 8:12 "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it.

ISA 8:13 The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread,

ISA 8:14 and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

ISA 8:18 Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.

ISA 8:19 When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?

ISA 8:20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

– The most serious claim of scientific evidence for the Codes was made by three Israeli scientists – Eliyhu Rips and Rosenberg - who claimed that biographical information about medieval rabbis is "encoded" in the Hebrew text of Genesis.

Statistical Science in 1994, and the purported evidence has spawned a whole industry that is popular among evangelicals and conspiracy theorists, who tie the Bible Code into certain interpretative methods of Bible Prophecy.

● This bible code theory has been carefully scrutinised by the scientific community, and several papers refuting the claims of the Israeli proponents of this theory have been published. Brendan McKay, based at ANU, has contributed to papers exposing the theory to be without scientific merit, with all of the Bible Code claims being “easily explained by random chance.”

The Bible Code Book●The book "The Bible Code" by Michael Drosnin has been the most successful mass-market book about the Torah Codes.

●The center-piece of the book is a "prediction" of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin – a prediction derived by Drosnin after he applied the Bible Code method with the help of computer software.

●On the 4th November 1995 Yitzhak Rabin was indeed assassinated and the phenomenon of the "The Bible Code" came to light in a tragic, but incontrovertible, manner.

Drosnin's Codes disprovedDrosnin's book has been reviewed by many experts, including Brendan McKay, and the common conclusion is that all semblence of scientific method was missing.

By repeated examples, they prove that “Drosnin did not find anything that can't be found in any book, even in English.”

They cite codes found in Moby Dick, War and Peace, and they point out that all of the important codes proponents have disowned Drosnin and his book and its sequel.

One skeptical analyst even found supposed codes in a chapter of Drosnin's second book which said: "THE BIBLE CODE IS A SILLY, DUMB, FAKE, FALSE, EVIL, NASTY, DISMAL FRAUD AND SNAKE-OIL HOAX."
