    MFN vs SFN

NO need: The same transport stream (TS)

More frequencies: One Frequency for One Site

NO need: At the same time

    DVB-T2 - SFN Configuration

    SFN principles:

    1. The same transport stream

    2. The same frequency for all site

    3. At the same time

    SFN advantages

    1. More efficiency of using spectrum frequency

    2. Robustness in coverage

    3. Simple to manage and allocate frequency (ARFM and

Broadcaster)4. Simple to setup network to coverage for indoor and

    portable reception

    SFN challenges

    1. Self-interference2. Synchronization

    3. Not allow inserting Local Programs

The Advantages and the challenges of SFN (compare with MFN)

    Why ARFM (Vietnam)

To encourage using single frequency networks (SFN)

    where appropriate

    1. 109 TV programs FTA all over country, in details: 63 Local TV Provider broadcast about 90 FTA TV programs

One Local TV provider broadcast in one Province and neighboring areas

About 20 nationwide FTA TV programs

About 20 Pay TV programs from domestic

    2. Other Pay TV programs from foreign

    3. Incase DVB-T2, MPEG 4, TS bit rate ~30Mbps: If choose SDTV bitrate: = 1.5Mbps/ 1 SDTV

    20 SDTV bitrate: = 30Mbps

If set up SFN network: One channel frequency (8Mhz) enough for 20

SDTV (~30Mbps) broadcast nationwide, and simply to manage and control

(for both ARFM and TV Provider)

If set up MFN network: Several frequencies (8Mhz) to be use for 20 SDTV(~30Mbps) broadcast nationwide, and making difficult to manage and

control; addition not enough frequency for Transition to Digital period.

So on with the other TV programs
