Vladimir Moiseev, Artistic Director

Born in 1963 in Moscow, Vladimir Moiseev is a member of one of the most distinguished choreographic families in Russia. In 1981, he graduated from the Moscow State Academy of choreography and joined the company of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. Since 1991, he has been a leading character solo dancer at the Bolshoi Theatre. Some of his signature roles were: Spanish and Hungarian Dances (Swan Lake), Dance with the drum ( "La Bayadere"), Hilarion (Giselle), Shepherd ( "Spartacus"), Espada and Bolero ( "Don Quixote"), Birbanto ( "Le Corsaire"), The Vizier and the Stranger (The Legend of Love "), Tybalt (Romeo and Juliet "), King of mice and Indian Doll ( "Nutcracker"), Koeman ("Polovtsian Dances" from the opera "Prince Igor"), just to name a few.

Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia

From the foothills of Sayan Mountains to the icy Kara Sea proudly rolls its waters the mighty and majestic Yenisey River. Many people of Siberia live on its banks. They have their own culture, literature and art. This vast and beautiful land has become a source of inspiration for the Krasnoyarsk Dance Company of Siberia, which by choreographic means reveals the spiritual wealth of the Siberians, glorifying their labor feats and telling of the wonderful nature of the land.

The Company was founded in 1960, and has been a success from the very outset its original manner of performing Siberian dances. Audiences are captivated by the vivid character portrayals, the musical movements, and the fanciful patterns of the choreographic design. The dances following one after another in a kaleidoscope manner are perceived as a single choreographic symphony, as a continuous stream of folk dance elements, now show and thoughtfully smooth, now shift and sparkling.

The treasures of folk art are eternal and inexhaustible but only when touched by the hand of an artist, alert to modem images and rhythms, do these treasures acquire value Mikhail Godenko, who founded the Company and had directed it continuously till 1991, was an experienced and talented director, a choreographer of great artistic taste and creative imagination, always searching for original compositional solutions. The successful efforts of the Company to create modern artistic pictures has found expression in such popular dances as "My Siberia", "Krasnoyarsk Merry Tunes", "Cossack's Dance", "Down the Street", "By the Well", "Men's Dance", "Siberian Fun" with their rapid cascade of cheerfulness merriment and humor.

A great love of dancing unites all the performers who are constantly striving towards a higher degree of mastery. M. Godenko created dances in collaboration with the Company's musical director, composer Vladimir Kornev, Merited Artist of Russia, whose music is distinctive for its folk character and melodiousness. His deep knowledge of folk dances and Siberian folklore helped him bring the music into the fabric of the dance in a most original manner.

From 1988 to 1992, he studied at the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts, from which he graduated as a producer - choreographer. In 1996, he was awarded the title of the “Honored Artist of Russia”. In 2001, he co-founded the “Russian National Ballet theatre,” where together with colleagues, who shared his views on choreography, he staged his versions of famous classical and modern ballet interpretations.

A few years ago, Vladimir Moiseev, the grandson of the famous Igor Moiseev, became the most recent Artistic Director of the Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia. When interviewed, Vladimir Moiseev has always spoken about the importance of keeping the Company’s old folk dance traditions alive, as well as developing the new dancers and the repertoire.

Vladimir Moiseev will lead the Company on their return tour to the United States since 2003, which is scheduled to take place in January of 2014.
