My Brother Knights and Families: Vivat Jesus!! The year has flown by and I find myself at the end my term as your Grand Knight. I would like to thank all of the council officers for their dedication to the council. I couldn’t have done it without them. I also would like to thank LCA board and President R.J. Kussmaul for working together with us as one. Of course some of our fundraisers and dinners couldn’t have gone on without our wonderful Ladies Auxiliary. Thank you very much. The same goes for the Knights Daughters. They are one of the best around; we couldn’t have done it without their support. The Knights Daughters worked at many functions and they are a true blessing. As Grand Knight I’ve learned that council 788 has and always will lead by example. We have some of the best programs and fundraisers such as Family Fun Nights, Steak Dinners, Fish Frys, Council Dinners, Holiday Get Togethers, Council Golf Outings, Family Pig Roast, and Texas Hold Em’ just to name a few. I am proud to have been a Grand Knight here at council 788 and will take many memories, life lessons and experiences with me. I will always be glad to be a member at council 788. I believe in what we stand for and am proud to belong to a council with such history, tradition and fellowship. I would like to wish the new administration good luck. Please keep in mind; we have a great group of people who are willing to get the job done. From The Corporation President R. Jay Kussmaul I have a money-making opportunity for you personally, and, at the same time, make money for the club without costing you a dime. Really !!!!

This month we will begin selling a coupon booklet which will easily return more savings of your money than the cost of the booklet, and you pocket the profit of savings from the coupons in the booklet.

The “ENJOY THE CITY” coupon booklet gives you discounts on your purchases in the Lansing area at participating restaurants, golf courses, retail stores and other businesses just like coupons in the grocery store. When it comes time to pay the bill, discount it with your coupon. The booklet costs only $20, but your savings will greatly surpass that. Your coupons are valuable for up to 1 ½ years.

We all know people who would like this deal also such as family, friends, neighbors, co-workers etc. Pick up some booklets at the club and pay for them after they’re sold. Your help is needed to make this money-making opportunity work, not only saving each of us money in coupons, but also making money for the club.

Will you help ???

From Your Editor Jay G. Corey THE 15TH OF THE PRECEEDING MONTH is still the deadline for submitting material for consideration into each newsletter. This allows us to get the newsletter to the printer quicker, and out to you sooner. Anything that you may have for the newsletter, in the way of articles or corrections, can be sent to me directly at [email protected].. You may also contact me at my home number of 393-1096 or by cell at 974-6501. If you would like to view the newsletter in color rather than the black & white copy by regular mail, please make sure you are on our e-mail mailing list, or you may go to our website at kofc788.org.

Sickness & Distress A prayers and recovery intentions continue to be needed for Brothers Matt Mannino, Rod Shangle, Will Rogers, Fr. William Luger, Dale Majeske, Father Klein’s mother and Patrick McCarthy. Please also pray for Donna Milliman. Please remember all of them in your prayers. Our condolences to the families of Mary Ellen McCloy and Ronald W. Stenski who all passed away recently.

If you know of someone that is ill and recovering, or has passed away, please contact our Grand Knight, Bill Chasse, at [email protected] or at home at 517-622-0365. You can reach our Financial Secretary, Jim Warner at [email protected] or at home at 321-1507 or by cell at 719-6794.

From The Ladies Auxiliary President Jeanine Thomas

On April 22nd we had a Spring Fling Dance at St. Gerard for Don Quixote. We had about 50 people in attendance and served them pizzas and desserts. Ronnie Knapp was the DJ and a good time was had by all. We are looking forward to doing this again next spring.

Our dinner meeting in May was at the Spartan Hall of Fame Cafe where new officers were elected for our next year. Congratulations to Pattie Schaefer, Vice President; Kathy Rademacher, Secretary; and Angie Rademacher, Treasurer. I was elected to continue one more year as President. I would like to thank my current officers Jean Glisson, Nancy Ludtke and Carleen Schmitz for all of their assistance and patience with me this past year, and we will see you in September after the summer break.

From The Council Financial Secretary Jim Warner

I am pleased to report that we have received dues responses from 91% of our membership to date. Unfortunately as part of that, we were forced to start the suspension process of over 70 members who have not paid, are no longer practical Catholics, or no longer wanted to be part of the Knights of Columbus organization. Again, I would like to thank all of our members for their quick response in paying their dues, the support of 788 Officers, and our retention committee for achieving one of the highest dues payment return rates in the several past years! Let’s look forward to 100% participation next year.

If, for any reason, you have concerns about your dues payment, or are having difficulty in paying due to financial or illness, please do not hesitate to contact our Grand Knight Bill Chasse or myself so we can work it out. Please do not just ignore your billings.

You may contact me at 517-321-1507 (home), 517-719-6794 (cell/text), or by e-mailing me at [email protected]. Thank you all and see you at the next Council meeting!

Officers Nominations & Elections Upon Us

First nominations for our officers of 2012 – 2013 were held at the last council meeting held on May 8th. Those nominated by the Nomination Committee were Mike Schaefer – Grand Knight, Dane Jurkovic – Deputy Grand Knight, John Drzik – Chancellor, Justin Drouin – Recorder, Frank Brandell – Treasurer, Ron Cook – Advocate, Ken Morrison – Warden, Andrew Radamacher and Zelko Jurkovic – Inside Guards, Jack Johns – Outside Guard, PGK Bill Chasse – First Year Trustee, PGK Dick McCloy – Second Year Trustee, and PGK David Luedtke – Third Year Trustee. Final voting will be held at the council meeting on Tuesday, June 12th.

Mother’s Day Carnation Sale At St. Gerard Hilary Goerge My thanks to all who participated in the Mother’s Day Carnation Sale at St. Gerard, either as a worker or a purchaser of flowers. Thanks to your help and generosity, we forwarded $1,272.78 to the Greater Lansing Right to Life. While down slightly from last year, it indicates a real commitment to the Knights of Columbus principle of Charity and our support of the Right To Life for the unborn.

Thanks also to the ladies of St. Gerard Queen of All Saints Circle who prepared all the lovely vases and participated in the sale of the flowers on Saturday and Sunday. Without their help, this project would have been much more difficult.

From The Knights Daughters By Michaela Hobbins The Knights Daughters donated money to Relay For Life, Shared Pregnancy, The Tootsie Roll Drive, Right To Life and The animal Shelter!! We have also recently made luminaries for the relay for life held on Saturday.

We have a Father’s Day breakfast being held on Sunday, June 7th, and invite all to attend. FATHERS EAT FREE.

If you are a girl between the ages of 10-18 you are welcome to join and become a knights daughter Our meeti the 2nd Wednesday of every month. We hope to see you there !!

Grand Knights Appreciation Dinner The Annual Grand Knight’s Appreciation Dinner will be held on Friday, June 15th beginning with cocktails at 5:30 pm and then dinner at 6:00 pm. Following dinner, Certificates of Appreciation and naming of the Knight and Family of the Year awards will be presented, in conjunction with the Ladies Auxiliary naming their Lady Of The Year award. This is an annual dinner that is open to every knight and his guest, as Grand Knight Bill Chasse expresses his thanks for all the help he has received in the past year. All are welcomed and Bill hopes to see all of you there.
