This reminds me of the pilgrims because they also sailed to the United States I wonder if this book is about slavery

I wonder why the soldiers came to his or her village

Maybe there is a raid on the village

I’m guessing the kid doesn’t know where the US is because they weren’t so famous back then I’m absolutely sure this is set in the 1940’s because they had a motor on their boat and there are soldiers around

Maybe the father is referring to segregation and the kids don’t know about segregation
