Eckert Animal Physiology: Mechanisms and Adaptations Comparingexamples and experimental data across a wide variety of animal groups, the authors emphasize the book's central theme: how the bodies ofanimals function and how evolution has adapted them to theirenvironment. Clear, balanced and beautifully illustrated, this booksets the standard of excellence in the field. Eckert Animal Physiology is the essential text for courses exploringthe structure, function and evolution of animals. The new FourthEdition , revised, redesigned and updated, builds on Roger Eckert'searlier success in establishing this book as a classic. Comparingexamples and experimental data across a wide variety of animal groups, the authors emphasize the book's central theme: how the bodies ofanimals function and how evolution has adapted them to theirenvironment. Clear, balanced and beautifully illustrated, this booksets the standard of excellence in the field. " Animal Physiologydevelops the major ideas in a simple and direct mannerExamples areselected from a broad spectrum of animal life, ranging from protozoaat one end to our species and other vertebrates at the other end theauthors have produced a balanced and up-to-date treatment of animalfunction." A physiology instructor weighs in on this book D. Vaughan I have beenteaching University-level physiology for over 10 years. I have used atleast a dozen books, from the "essentials" to the "encyclopedic". Fora one-semester course on physiology that emphasizes recurringmechanisms from a cellular and organ-level perspective, with a greatintroduction to ecological physiology thrown in, Eckert cannot bebeat. In my experience, the vast majority of students respond betterto Eckert's illustrations than to the endless flow charts that appearin most of the other books. It nicely fills the niche between "justthe basics" ess. A Customer said "a good book about general animalphysiological mechanisms". It's a good book about animal physiologicalmechanisms. The explanations about fine mechanisms of animaladaptations to a wide range of environments are very good. It's nottoo good about the molecular mechanisms of the physiologicalprocesses. Lodish or Alberts, for exemple are better.. A Customer said"A Horrible book!". The author can not explain the molecular aspectsof biological processes well. The figures were fine but there are somany books that are far better than this. The author seriously needsto take some writing classes. I had to use another book in conjunctionwith this one, inorder to make sure I got the concepts correct.Compared to the other book, Eckert Animal Physiology is nothing!
