Computing

TopicOur Summer Term topic is Corby. This is an exciting topic that I am sure will motivate your child with their learning.

History

We will explore how Corby began from the Viking settlement and the royal charter through to the Steelworks

Geography

We will look at the location of Corby and our locality. We will create a map and use a key to identify places of interest

Art/DT

We will learn about sculpture and make our own clay model of the Corby Steelman.

We will create a Corby mural for our classroom

Any books or artefacts about Corby that you may have we would greatly appreciate for our classroom display. We will take good care of them.

Dear Parent,

I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter break. This term we will continue to support your child on their learning journey by ensuring they learn in a fun way. I have detailed some of the things that your child will be working on during the Summer Term.

EnglishYour child will have the opportunity to extend their learning by reading further exception words, noting the unusual correspondences between spelling and sound, and where these occur in the word. In addition, we will learn how to organize paragraphs around a theme and edit our work for improvement.

I would encourage you to continue to listen to your child read as often as possible and support them with learning their spellings.Maths

Time We will be learning to tell the time both on an analogue and digital clock. We will also explore time differences and lengths of time that things take to do.Geometry We will learn how to recognise angles as a property of shape and how two right angles make a half turn, We will also draw 2-D shapes and make 3-D shapes using modelling materials and recognise 3-D shapes in different orientations and describe them. Place Value We will continue to use our knowledge of place value to solve word problems. Please continue to help your child to learn their times tables at home.

S cience

To start the term the children will be learning about plants. They will have the opportunity to identify and describe the functions of different parts of flowering plants: roots, stem/trunk, leaves and flowers. They will investigate the way in which water is transported within a plant and will explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal.Later in the term, the children will become a team of personal trainers for clients in need of expert, health, dietary and training advice. To help them with this, they will identify that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition.

P.E

In PE, the children will be using skills of cooperation and agility to complete games and activities such as Quick off the Mark, Front Curling, Tunnels and Balance Transfer.PE lessons will be on a Monday and Friday. However please ensure your child has a PE kit in school every day as

More important news

Non-contact time

On a Thursday Mrs. Wildsmith will continue to teach your child as this is my non-contact time that I use for planning, assessment and management.

Snack Time

Please ensure you provide your child with a healthy snack for their break. In addition please give your child a bottle of water each day that they can drink whenever they feel thirsty.

Water Bottle

Please provide your child with a water bottle that they can refill at school. The classroom tends to be warm on sunny days and it is important that the children are kept hydrated.

School Uniform

Please continue to ensure that all uniform is labelled as I am sure you will understand that it does get rather warm over the next few months and cardigans and jumpers are often taken off.

HomeworkReading Books

It is your child’s responsibility to change their reading book when necessary. Please ensure that reading books are in school daily to enable them to be heard read by an adult.

Spelling Championship

You will receive a copy of the spellings soon. Please support your child in learning them. A good way to learn spellings is by looking at the word then covering it and lastly writing it.

I hope that you have found this newsletter helpful. If you have

any questions please do not hesitate to come and see me. Thank you for your

support,
