Rogers was elected in 2008 on a platform of flood recovery, reducing county expenses, investments in public safety and improving county roads. Since the flood, Rogers has helped secure federal and state resources that subsidized over 85% of the total cost of rebuilding $80 million dollars worth of damaged Linn County infrastructure. Rogers has been a leading voice in finding new efficiencies to reduce County expenses, has helped maintain Linn County’s Aaa bond rating and used his private sector experience to streamline County operations through new budgeting processes and expanded use of technology. A former volunteer firefighter, Rogers fought hard to maintain the Sheriff’s Rescue 57 program, a vital service for rural fire and ambulance departments. Rogers, a strong advocate for public/private partnerships, created the ‘Urban County Coalition’; a partnership between Linn, Johnson, Black Hawk and Scott counties—the first of its kind in Iowa—to help effect change at the State legislature. Rogers’ platform includes an unwavering focus on restoring funding for vital Mental Health/Developmental Disability services that were reduced by the State in late 2011. Rogers is committed to fiscal responsibility and is especially proud that Linn County has the lowest tax rate among Iowa’s largest urban counties. Improving Linn County’s road infrastructure, public safety and creating an environment that attracts and retains young professionals, families and businesses round out Rogers’ 2012 priorities. Ben Rogers, 32 years old, was elected to his first term in office in 2008 and represents District 3 which includes most of the North East side of Cedar Rapids. Rogers resides in Cedar Rapids with his wife, Vanessa Rogers. For more information, visit his website: www.BenRogers.org. ###
