What is the RE Adapter?

The RE Adapter for Encompass is a solution that enables organizations to quickly and easily synchronize member data between Encompass and The Raiser’s Edge® (RE) fund raising database from Blackbaud Inc.

It utilizes the Encompass Web Services API to exchange data, providing a secure and reliable method of transferring constituent information between clients’ online iModules database and their offline RE database.

How does the RE Adapter work?

iModules assists in installing a small piece of software called the JCA Repository on a PC in the client’s network.

The RE Adapter runs automatically on a regular schedule and extracts new information from The Raiser's Edge®.

Updates in RE since the last run of the RE Adapter are picked up for processing.

This information is sent to Encompass and updates are made via iModules Web Services.

Next, the RE Adapter takes changes made within Encompass and outputs these changes into text (.csv) import files.

The use of import files going into The Raiser's Edge® allows for a point in the process where data validation can occur.

How does the RE Adapter work?These import files are stored on the client’s network and are separated by the type of data that is pulled.

Everything up to this point is fully automated and requires no user intervention. From here, the RE administrator must run up to nine (9) imports each time the RE Adapter synchronizes – ideally every day.

The RE import process is greatly simplified using the RE Adapter by making file manipulation unnecessary.

✔ The Raiser’s Edge® version 7.8 or higher running on SQL Server 2000 or higher

- MSDE is not supported

✔ Windows .NET Framework 2.0 or higher installed on the PC running the Adapter

✔ Windows 2000 or higher

✔ The Raiser’s Edge® installed locally, not hosted

✔ Access through the firewall to send and receive using HTTP (Web Services)
