I Thirst

The great doctor of the Church, Saint Augustine, teaches us that Christ, in requesting “something to drink” from the Samaritan woman is actually saying: “God thirsts for your faith and your love. As a good and merciful Father, He wants our total, possible good, and this good is He Himself.” The Samaritan woman, on the other hand, represents the dissatisfaction of one who does not find what he seeks. She had "five husbands" and now she lives with another man; her going to and from the well to draw water expresses a repetitive and resigned life. However, everything changes for her that day, thanks to the conversation with the Lord Jesus……” (Benedict XVI, Angelus 24 February 2008).

If we entrust ourselves to God, we receive every possible good which is God himself, in other words, living the dynamic conversion to God, renouncing a self-centered mentality in order to receive the gift of God. Each of us without God is inevitably destined to dissatisfaction, limited in everything especially in giving himself or obtaining for herself joy, love, happiness… Each of us without God cannot think to boundless joy, and eternal love, the living water of which, precisely, Jesus speaks with the Samaritan woman.

Happiness, another word for the living water, can only be given by the One who possesses it, and man does not possess it. God alone can share it with those who place their trust in Him and follow Him.

The living water, the gift of the Holy Spirit, can only be given by the Lord Jesus whom the Father sent into the world to give to all men and women eternal life, that is, never ending happiness. As the Pope reminds us “only the water that Jesus offers, the living water of the Spirit, can quench” man's “thirst for the infinite” (Benedict XVI, homily 24 February 2008). Man is able to give his fellow humans, affection, money, power, human glory, honor, career … but not endless happiness which, since it is an unlimited good, belongs to the divine, infinite sphere!

mujer samaritana, está diciendo: "Dios tiene sed de vuestra fe y vuestro amor. Como un Padre bueno y misericordioso, Él quiere nuestro bien total y posible, y este bien es Él mismo. "La mujer samaritana, por otra parte, representa la insatisfacción de quien no encuentra lo que busca. Ella tenía "cinco maridos" y ahora vive con otro hombre; Su ir y venir del pozo para sacar agua expresa una vida repetitiva y resignada. Sin embargo, todo cambia para ella ese

día, gracias a la conversación con el Señor Jesús ... "(Benedicto XVI, Ángelus 24 de febrero de 2008).

Si nos confiamos a Dios, recibimos todo bueno posible que es Dios mismo, es decir, viviendo la conversión dinámica a Dios, renunciando a una mentalidad egocéntrica para recibir el don de

Dios. Cada uno de nosotros, sin Dios, está inevitablemente destinado a la insatisfacción, limitado en todo especialmente a darse a sí mismo y obtener para sí la alegría, el amor, la felicidad ... Cada uno de nosotros sin Dios no puede pensar en un gozo ilimitado y amor

eterno, Jesús habla con la mujer samaritana. La felicidad, otra palabra para el agua viva, sólo puede ser dada por Aquel que la posee,

y el hombre no la posee. Sólo Dios puede compartirlo con aquellos que ponen su confianza en Él y lo siguen.

El agua viva, el don del Espíritu Santo, sólo puede ser dada por el Señor Jesús que el Padre

envió al mundo para dar a todos los hombres la vida eterna, es decir, la felicidad sin fin. Como el Papa nos recuerda "sólo el agua que Jesús ofrece, el agua viva del Espíritu, puede saciar la"

sed de infinito "del hombre (Benedicto XVI, homilía, 24 de febrero de 2008). ¡El hombre es capaz de dar a sus semejantes humanos, afecto, dinero, poder, gloria humana, honor, carrera

... pero no la felicidad sin fin que, como es un bien ilimitado, pertenece a la divina esfera infinita!
