TABLE OF CONTENTS

The Northeast Regional Nurse Practitioner Conference was established in 1992 with the intent of providing continuing nursing education that expands the basic education and experience of nurse practitioners.

It is our mission to assist nurse practitioners in maintaining professional expertise for the delivery of competent, quality, advanced practice nursing care directed at improving clinical outcomes. The sponsoring members are the Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, the New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner Association, and the Boston College William F. Connell School of Nursing Continuing Education Program.

OBJECTIVESAt the conclusion of this conference, the participants will be able to:

• Identify critical issues and clinical challenges facing nurse practitioners in the health care environment.

• Utilize evidence-based strategies in clinical practice to improve patient care outcomes.

We are delighted to welcome Margaret Franckhauser, MS, MPH, RN as this year’s keynote speaker. Building on her 2015 conference workshops on Leadership Skills in Today’s Healthcare, this year’s session, The Imperative for APRN Leadership in the New Healthcare World Order, will address the emerging opportunities for Advance Practice Leadership and methods to develop oneself as a leader in the new world order. Ms. Franckhauser is currently the CEO of Central New Hampshire VNA & Hospice in Laconia, NH and Chair of the Board of the Endowment for Health.

As always, the conference will provide a variety of workshops, clinical sessions, and poster presentations led by a diverse faculty who are experts in clinical care and professional issues. The Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and the New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner Association will be holding their respective annual business meetings during lunch on Thursday. This is a great opportunity to hear about the work the organizations are doing on behalf of the NP profession. If you do not belong to either organization, we welcome you to join us and learn about the benefits of becoming a member.

As part of the conference, we will once again host an evening reception on Thursday, May 5 at 5:45 PM. We welcome attendees to join us. The event will include recognition of nurse practitioners from Massachusetts and New Hampshire who have demonstrated excellence in professional practice. It will also provide an opportunity for networking and socializing.

By attending the conference, you will become a part of the regional nurse practitioner history and help create a vision for nurse practitioners of the future.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference!

STEPHANIE AHMED, DNP, FNP-BC President, Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners

The Imperative for APRN Leadership in the New Healthcare World Order

Thursday, May 5, 20168:15 – 9:30 AM

Session DescriptionThe Affordable Care Act is pushing advanced practice nursing out of the shadows and into the forefront. As a broader, more powerful role in healthcare emerges, advanced practice nurses must step up and take the lead for the future of their practice and of the nation’s health. This session will discuss the emerging opportunities for advance practice leadership and methods to develop oneself as a leader in the new world order.

About the SpeakerMargaret Franckhauser is a registered nurse with over 35 years’ experience in acute care, primary care, and public health. For 20 years she practiced as a nurse practitioner, where she worked to expand the role of APRNs in New Hampshire and to establish qualification standards in advanced practice across the nation. Margaret has served on many state and national health and policy committees, and she is an alumnus of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Leader Fellowship. Margaret is the current CEO of Central New Hampshire VNA & Hospice.
