Genesis 1: 31; 2: 1-3, 18a

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day...Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work...Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. ...Then The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.

I Corinthians 12: 12, 14-15, 20

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ...Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body...As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

John 17: 1, 20-21

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you...“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

Sermon: "It Is Not Good To Be Alone” Pastor Schulz

“It Is Not Good For Us To Be Alone”

1. It’s fun to run into old acquaintances unexpectedly. Let me introduce you…

2. Our sacred texts assume connections/relationships.

God’s last creation was _________________________.

The English words ‘one another’ appear 50+ times together in the New Testament.

Jesus prayed in John 17: “…that they may be one as We are one.”

St. Paul compared members of the Church with parts of the _____________ as they connected with each other.

So…living life without relationships/connection is not _______ because it is not what God intended for us.

3. There are surprising benefits from positive relationships.

The Society for Human Resource Development commented on job satisfaction (2016).

The Harvard Study of Adult Development traced 258 Harvard graduates for 75 years.

Christian author John Ortberg cites a study of 7,000 people over 9 years. Who knew?

Even the Lone Ranger had his _____________!

4. An opportunity for connection at Zion begins next week.

Max Lucado’s comments about anxiety-related illnesses.

The Feb. 10, 2018, issues of the Economist about anxiety.

5. Romans 5:12, “Just as each of us has one _________ with many members…so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each members belongs to all the ___________.”

“I long to clear a path and lift a spade of snow” – from the movie White Christmas.

Seriously, who actually ‘longs’ to shovel snow?! Not me, and we ALL know it’s definitely NOT

my wife!! Zion Lutheran Church and School is looking for

someone to plow the parking lots and spaces for this upcoming

winter season. If you or you know of someone that might be interested please email me, Rich

Hoey-Properties Director: [email protected] or text me 630/200-3942. Thank you in

advance for all your help.

care package requests, so our blankets will go into immediate

use! Praise God! Altar Guild

treats! Guests are always welcome!

10:30AM service on Sunday, October 20th, for a time of Bible

study, games in the gym, and snacks. Talk with Pastor Ripke if
