Cue - Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight - The Spaniels

    Open on the face of--

INT. MALTS DINER - COUNTER - CONTINUOUS

Sydney Ravenholm, 18. With cascading hair flowing down hershoulders.

Shes dressed like a waitress from the 50s would be. A paperhat sits angled on her head.

She holsters her chin under her hand, staring at a coupletalking and laughing together in their booth. They drink

    milkshakes.

    VOICE (O.S.)You alright...?

Snapping out of whatever she was in, Sydney sighs and looksback to see a much older woman, still with beautiful facialfeatures, putting a pot of coffee back in.

Her name is Alice, and shes been doing this for more thanthirteen years.

SYDNEYIm fine. Just a little worriedabout some tests I got tomorrow, thats all.

    That isnt all.

Smiling, Alice, still with her back to Sydney, pours a mug with coffee.

    ALICEI remember tests.

Turning around, she brushes past Sydney--

    ALICE (CONTD)(smiling)

    A long time ago.

Stay with Sydney, also smiling, as she follows Alice, withher eyes, walk to the couple in the booth.

    ALICE (O.S.) (CONTD)Everything fine here?

Sydney turns away and focuses on a salt shaker not too farfrom her fingers.

    3/29

She concentrates on it, extending her finger carefully. The music seems to fade out as another sound comes in--

Almost like a high pitched noise--

The salt shaker moves on its own.

    ALICE (CONTD)Syd?

Scared, Sydney looks up, breaking concentration on the saltshaker.

ALICE (CONTD)Mind taking the gals on table six?

    SYDNEYCourse not.

Wiping her hands on her apron, Sydney grabs a small pad and walks toward the table where four girls are.

Two of them are texting. The other is talking on the phone, and the last one pops a bubble, twirling her hair. She eyesSydney.

TWIRLINGI didnt know you worked here.

    SYDNEYYeah, um, I have almost--

(thinking it over)Two years working here. Started in

    my freshman--

The girl talking on the phone puts it down for a minute andrudely interrupts with--

PHONECherry coke, hamburger with nocheese and curly fries.

She still has the phone down. Sydney stares at her. Beat.

Suddenly, the girl waves her hand, ushering for Sydney to write it down.

The girl twirling her hair looks down.

Always eyeing the girl on the phone, Sydney jolts somethingthat clearly isnt even readable.

    PHONE (V.O.) (CONTD)Stupid-ass bitch .

ALICE...I dont have to be your momma tosense when somethings not right

with ya. Might as well spit it outbefore I hear it from someone elsethat aint you.

Lifting herself, Sydney sits on top of the counter, danglingher legs. Alice continues to write some bills.

    Looking at her fingers--

    SYDNEYI dont know.

    ALICEIs it a boy?

    SYDNEY

    No.

    ALICE(sneaking a glance)

    Is it Gabriel?

    SYDNEYMost definitely not.

    ALICE(smiling)

    If you say so.(beat)

I surely thought you two would havebeen together by now.

    SYDNEYWhy?

ALICEI dont know. Call me old school orold fashioned. I fancied you twotogether. Not to mention the bothof you saw each other grow eversince yall two started to developteeth and learn how to articulate

    words.

She finishes signing one of the checks in the check book andcloses it up.

Sydney chuckles to herself. Off in the distance, we can hearan old-fashioned bell ring as the door opens.

    ALICE (CONTD)(eye on the door)

    Speaking of which--

    Sydney turns around.

A boyishly handsome young man stepped in, taking off hisjacket and fingerless gloves, slipping into a booth.

    This is Gabriel, 18.

All four girls sitting together try to sneakily take a glanceat him.

He nods at them politely, with a small smile and turns to the menu.

    Under her breath, wryly--

    SYDNEY(beat)Excellent timing, universe.

    ALICE (O.S.)Go get em, tiger.

Syd takes off the apron and hat, flattening them out on thecounter, and walks toward him. Alice chuckles.

Sydney slides in the bench, opposite of Gabriel.

    GABRIELHey.

    SYDNEY(same tone)

    Hey .

    Beat.

    GABRIELHows work?

Lifting her eyebrows, unsure of where this is going.

    SYDNEY(stretching it out)

Good ? How... are... you doing?(trailing on)

...since last I saw you...(trailing on)

...which was like five hours ago inclass. What do you want, Gabriel?

GABRIELFine, Im not going to beat aroundthe bush.

He reaches and pulls out a common place book. There arevarious pages sticking in and out, in between threading

sheets.Gabriel flips to a certain page. We catch certain glimpses of

what goes on in his mind. Ghastly, dark drawings in ink, withbeautiful calligraphy also in ink.

    GABRIEL (CONTD)(finding what he wants)

    Ahh .

    A parchment.

He flattens it on the table and, flatly against the surface,

    pushes it over to Sydney.

Laying back on the booth, arms crossed.

SYDNEYIm not going to take a look atthat.

    GABRIELSyd .

    SYDNEY(acknowledging)

    Gabe.

GABRIELI dont know if youve noticed, but

winter is rapidly approaching. Itsgoing to get very cold, very soon--

SYDNEYLucky thing I have you as a friend, then.

Sydney reaches for Gabriels hands. She flips them over, palms up.

They are rough, with long fingers at the end.

GABRIELI really hope youre reading my

mind right now, Syd; itd beborderline offensive to enunciateit in the presence of a lady, andby lady I refer to Alice--

Gabriel turns to see Alice coming toward them with a pot ofcoffee and two cups.

    ALICEGabriel...

    (pause)

How are you? How are the minestreating you?

    GABRIELVery good, thank you.

(with certain emphasis)Its getting colder out there withevery passing second.

(normally)Shouldnt slow us down, though. Manpower we got down there is amazing. And how about yourself?

ALICECant complain, either, I spose.(re: Sydney)

...Especially when I have thisprincess as a co-worker to keep

    myself some company.

Sydney smiles. Gabriel looks at her, same smile plastered onhis face.

    GABRIELOh , I bet.

Alice pours him some coffee, and then some to Sydney whosmiles while lifting her shoulders.

ALICEOkay, then, Ill leave you two atit.

She gives Sydney a sideways glance before she departs to thetable with four girls.

When Alices out of ear-shot, Gabriel stretches his backforward, almost over the table.

    GABRIEL(whispering)

It has to do with the witch and thefaun.

Suddenly, this has all of Syds attention. She leans acrossthe table, putting both her elbows on it. Pointing at him--

SYDNEYYou need to choose your words

    wisely from now on, Gabriel--

    GABRIELLook at it.

He points to the parchment that lays flat against the table.

Against her will, she takes a deep breath of air and looksdown.

Its a hand-drawn map of a town and woods surrounding it. Nodoubt, its Gabriels own. There are lines and arrows, as ifhes been following something.

SYDNEYThis isnt enough. Its just tracksand routes youve concocted, Gabe--

    I need solid evidence.

    GABRIEL(smirking)

    Like a photo?

He slips from underneath the parchment two Polaroid photos.Slides those toward her, as well, his eyes always glued onher.

    She looks at him.

    They hold eyesight.

    Beat.

Sydney picks them up. We never whats on the photo, but the way she gulps and puts it back down says enough. Its serious.

Drinks her coffee, and then finally--

    SYDNEYWhen do we start trailing?

    Cut to black.

EXT. EVERGREENE HIGH SCHOOL - CONTINUOUS

A fall sky stands above a high-school. Young men and womenstand outside, dressed in their sweaters and jackets. Theyconverse, laugh.

We pan through a tree with red, orange and yellow leavesbefore we join--

Walking on the court is Leanna, 17. With dark hair curlingdown her shoulders, shes beauty hidden under shyness. She

wont know shes attractive until shes in college probably.

She looks to the sides, us circling around her.

    VOICELeanna!

We stop circling when we see Gabriel waving at her, running

    towards her.

He swipes his hair to the left with his fingers, still insidethose threading, fingerless gloves.

    LEANNA Have you seen Syd?

GABRIELI was gonna ask you that right now.

LEANNA She told me you were with her lastnight.

GABRIELAt the malt shop. Only for a bitbefore I split back to my house, and she to yours.

Gabriel tugs at his back pack strap. Leanna turns her to theside, frowning.

    Beat.

Nodding with almost every word he says--

GABRIEL (CONTD)Syd told me she was gonna stay withyou over the night. Study fortodays history exam and... stuff .

    Quickly counters with--

    9.

  • 8/6/2019 Ravenholm

    11/29

LEANNA She most definitely did not spendthe night over my house.

Gabriel turns around, putting his arms above his head, handsbehind them.

LEANNA (CONTD)She also told me you made some very interesting remarks over certain

witches and over certain faunsthrough the woods and past theblack trees. You want to update meon that?

He turns around, looking at Leanna. She uttered the ending ofthat sentence in an almost a whisper.

    Poking his shoulder--

LEANNA (CONTD)You promised me you werent goingto bring those up with her, Gabe.

GABRIELI need her for this hunt. No, notonly me. We do.

LEANNA Give it a rest. She doesnt want toanymore. Honestly, Im gettingtired of it myself. We should be

worrying about passing exams, andgetting scholarships instead of

whats roaming round those woodsready to kill us.

    A bell rings.

Every student in that court starts flooding back to the frontdoors.

Its only a matter of time before Gabriel is left standingthere on his own.

    Focus on his face as...

    INT. GABRIELS ROOM - FLASHBACK

Sunlight falls through the curtains of Gabriels room.

    10.

    12/29

Sleeping in a bed surrounded by different magazine cutouts ofhis favorite bands and television shows and stickers, Gabrielyawns.

Throws the covers off him and as he walks past us, we focuson a picture frame of Gabriel kissing Sydney in the cheek--

    Shes smiling at the camera.

INT. LUNCHROOM - EVERGREENE HIGH - CONTINUOUS

Sitting in the corner of a table is Gabriel and Sydney. Shefeeds him a fry, and he almost bites her finger playfully--

    SYDNEYYoure a savage.

Gabriel smiles, pleased with himself. He kisses her, holds

    it.

GABRIELOne of the many reasons you areindubitably infatuated with me--

    SYDNEYDont flatter yourself.

She opens a history textbook, flipping her pencil through herfingers.

As Gabe looks up, through the entrance, he sees another girl walk in. Its Leanna. Fresh out of a second school transfer--

Asking the boy next to him--

    GABRIELWhos the fresh face?

The boy looks at Leanna. Examines, and after a beat.

BOYLeanna Clevenger. From Pinewood, upnear Uwaka, Maine. Shes what every

male with raging hormones wants inthis school, but good luck tryingto get her to utter a singlephrase. Shes a locked safe, andaccording to Jerome the libraryassistant? Shes in there for likethree quarters of the school day.

Sydney turns around to look at Leanna walk to the farthesttable, sling off her messenger bag and pull a plastic one.

    11.

  • 8/6/2019 Ravenholm

    13/29

    Her lunch.

    Pan toward Syd--

BOY (O.S.) (CONTD)You ask me? I think shes one of

those quiet, lunatic kids. Afterone insult too many, shell snapand go trigger happy.

Gabriel, too, stares at her. He scoffs and takes out anotebook for Math.

    BOY (O.S.) (CONTD)Mark my words.

    The bell rings--

INT. HALLWAY - EVERGREENE HIGH - FLASHBACK

Gabriel and Sydney walk down the hall, holding hands.

SYDNEYWe should invite that girl outsometime. To eat. See what kindagirl she is.

(beat)Get to know her a bit. Leanna .

    Chuckling--

GABRIELBaby, you know Gale exaggeratesevery bit of information he gets.Who spends three quarters of aschool day in a library? Im surethats also impossible withoutfailing half of your classes, as

    well--

And as they walk, they past a window that permits view intothe library, where--

Leanna can be seen, legs lifted and tucked. Shes reading, twirling her hair.

Gabriel and Sydney stop walking and turn to the window, looking in.

Slowly, driving the point in, Sydney faces Gabriel to theside.

    12.

  • 8/6/2019 Ravenholm

    14/29

GABRIEL (CONTD)Oh, cmon. That was just pure luckand some serendipity--

    SYDNEYGood enough for me.

She slowly slips out of Gabriels hands, opens the doubledoors that lead into the library and toward Leanna.

    Gabriel stays outside the window.

    GABRIELHorrible mistake, Syd.

Sydney boards Leanna. We cant hear what theyre saying, butsoon Syd points to Gabriel out the window.

    GABRIEL (CONTD)

Oh, how very, very not awkward thisis.

Gabriel waves. Leanna shyly returns it and smiles. They bothconcentrate on each other again and take their numbers.

Syd waves bye, as she walks back out the library and towardGabriel.

SYDNEYTonight, some coffee at the CoffeeBean and then we catch the localband at Rock Lobster. Doesnt thatsound like fun?

Nodding, keeping that happy smile, Gabriel says--

GABRIELShe is going to kiillll us.

Gabe turns to Leanna and from out the window waves again.Laughing, Sydney pulls him away.

    INT. COFFEE BEAN - FLASHBACK

Leanna rips open her fourth sugar package and puts it in hercoffee, stirring it.

Gabriel watches, a bit unsure of who this girl is. Sydney, cool as always, just watches normally.

SYDNEYSo, Leanna. How you liking IndianFalls so far?

    13.

  • 8/6/2019 Ravenholm

    15/29

    Sipping off her coffee mug--

LEANNA I like it. I guess . Small town.

    SYDNEY

    You betcha.GABRIEL

    Where did you come from?

    LEANNA Rockwell?

    GABRIELThats... south from Uwaka.

    LEANNA Precisely.

    SYDNEY(beat)

So much for trusting Gale on thatone, huh?

(quickly, turns to Leanna)Bigger town, I imagine?

LEANNA Oh, yes. Much more bigger. We hadboulevards and avenues. I liked ita lot. Rockwell, that is.Diversified group of people, andthere never seemed to be anytension between them. One of its

many qualities that I fell in love with.

    GABRIELWhyd you move?

    Beat. Pause.

    LEANNA Both my parents died.

    Silence.

LEANNA (CONTD)Our house burned, and they as well.

    Putting her hand over Leannas--

SYDNEYIm so sorry to hear that.

    14.

  • 8/6/2019 Ravenholm

    16/29

    LEANNA Thank you.

(beat)Either way, Norman Hughes was theclosest relative I had. He is myuncle.

GABRIELNo way! Hughes Tire Center, Norm?Hes your uncle? I love that cat.

    Smiling, Leanna nods.

LEANNA Kind man. He and his wife, my aunt,Aunt Kiara. They were hospitableenough to take me in, and lend me aroom in their house until I canfully support myself.

She utters every word meticulously. Theres this pattern shehas, or like shes too shy and afraid that someone will hearher.

    SYDNEYIm glad youre with us.

    Beat.

    LEANNA Are you two...

Shes referring to Sydney and Gabriel.

    LEANNA (CONTD)...together?

They look at each other. Gabriels about to answer, when--

    INT. WOODS - PRESENT DAY

Dry leaves crackle under the boots of Sydney Ravenholm as she makes her way through the woods.

    Like gentle rain, leaves fall.

She lifts up a photo in front of her. The back side of theblack Polaroid photo is given to us.

Kneeling down, Sydney examines the ground. Brushes someleaves aside to reveal--

Hoof tracks. Like that of goats. A set of two.

    15.

    SYDNEY(gasping)

You were right, darling. Ill bedamned.

Suddenly, a chilly wind comes from no where. Sydney shutters

    as she gets up.Turns around--

Only to come face to face with a creature. To describe it would be of no justice.

It stands on its hind quarters, hands with scrawny fingersclasped together.

A sinister faun covered in leaves and moss stands another twofeet above Sydney. It seemed to have produced itself from thetree.

FAUNOh, dont let my appearance startleyou!

The voice is deep and full of sibilance. It lifts its hands,as if trying to prove hes not out to scare her.

FAUN (CONTD)Do you not know that these woodsare forbidden for your kind tocross? Especially during winter.

SYDNEYSo you have returned. The bunch ofyou.

    FAUNOretheus Fargon...

The faun crosses its legs and bows.

    FAUN (CONTD)At your service.

It lifts back up, lifting its arms fancifully.

    SYDNEYIm...

Pointing one large finger at her--

ORETHEUSYou need no introduction. Neitherdo the rest of your very peculiarfriends.

Sydney frowns, crossing her arms, staring up at the milky

white eyes of the faun. It has no retina, just one, singlecolored eyeballs.

ORETHEUS (CONTD)And before you interrogate me, one

must remember the trees are alwayslistening. Shh . Can you hear that?

He puts a finger up to his thin lips, and cocks its head.

    Sydney stays quiet.

The trees move and sway in the wind. Their leaves rustle and

    scratch against each other.

ORETHEUS (CONTD)Can you hear them? Communicating intheir own, ubiquitous way?

SYDNEYPoetic. Brings tears to my eyes. Sobefore I start the waterworks--

    (beat)Wheres the witch?

    ORETHEUSPardon?

SYDNEYThe witch , faun, dont play around

    with me.

ORETHEUSI am not accompanied by any kind of

witch or wizard, Miss Ravenholm, Iswear it.

Sydney quickly lifts her hand and places it on the side ofthe fauns arm.

    Closes her eyes.

Fragments and images jump toward us. A jarred point of viewas we run through the woods at blinding speeds. Entering inthe trees and exiting out through them.

We see something in the ground, wounded, crawling. It isanother faun. Its lower half is missing.

    17.

    HURT FAUN(echo)

    Brother... find the children...

    Suddenly--

VOICE (O.S.)Sydney, move out of the way!

    Sydney snaps open her eyes.

A fire streak flies over Oretheuss and Syds head, slammingagainst a tree, shattering it into pieces of burnt log.

    SYDNEYNo!

She gets in front of Oretheus, protecting him almost.

Shakily, we circle to see Gabriel. He has his arm and handraised. His hand is engulfed in a brilliant, blue flame--

Over his shoulder, he runs toward Syd and puts her behindhim.

GABRIELIts a faun, Syd! Whats a matter

    with you?

Oretheus puts its arms up in protection, as if afraid of thefire.

    SYDNEYIts Areathans brother!

Quickly, the flames disappear on Gabriels hand.

It just evaporates. Without a doubt, his emotions and moodhave control over how the flame expands.

    GABRIELStart talking, faun.

Oretheus lifts himself, a bit proud.

Cue - Do the Hippocriff - The Weird Sisters

ORETHEUSIs that anyway to speak to the faun

whose royal brother saved the livesof you petty human beings?

    He sounds genuinely pissed off.

    18.

    20/29

We stay on Gabriels face, as--

    INT. ROCK LOBSTER - FLASHBACK

A four piece rock band is on the stage.

The main singer is speaking, grabbing the mic, but it isntlong until theyre plucking and drumming.

Pull back and pan through the crowd of high school students, dancing in front of the stage or sitting in the tables, someplaying pool.

Sydney is sitting, tapping and moving her head to the song.Gabe walks in, with two soda cups in his hands. He hands acup to Syd, who starts slurping away.

    GABRIEL(over the commotion)

    Leannas phone number?

    Getting it--

    SYDNEY(over the commotion)

Yeah! Should I give her a call?

    Gabriel nods yes.

    SIDNEY(over the commotion)

    Be back soon.

She jumps off her chair, gives Gabriel a kiss in the cheekand walks to the front.

    EXT. ROCK LOBSTER - CONTINUOUS

The small, rock avenue is in the outskirts of town.

It almost seems to be surrounded by the woods that composesall of Indian Wake.

Syd walks out of it, marking a phone number. The music can beheard from afar.

Pacing around in circles, waiting for the rings to by. She

    gets Leannas answering machine.

SYDNEYLeanna, its me Syd. Were alreadyin Rock Lobster, where are you? Meand Gabe thought youd be here bynow. Butt-uh, no rush, no worries,it seems like this bands gonna beplaying all night, anyway. Butyeah, uh, give me a call whenyoure right outside the Lobster soI can meet you up. Right, then, later.

    She hangs up.

Waits there for a while. Turns to the woods, and sees betweenthe tree fire. Or is it?

Its dark, and a large flame is erupting off in the distance.

A small tension is building up, as--

    VOICESydney.

She almost jumps out of her skin, gasping. Turning around, she sees Leanna, who, while lifting her phone--

LEANNA Sorry, I just got your message. Iam horrible with phones. Between meand you, I really cant stand them.

Leanna takes notice of Sydneys jolt--

    LEANNA (CONTD)Are you okay?

    Sydney points behind her--

    LEANNA (CONTD)

Did you see something?Leanna looks past Syd, who turns around again.

Its dark, foggy, and blue inside the woods. No sense offlames or fire.

SYDNEYSwore I saw like a forest fire.Like it was barely erupting. I--

She clears her throat, and laughs to herself, waving it away.

SYDNEY (CONTD)You know what? Its nothing, cmon.Lets go in.

Cue - Ride - Cary Brothers

Sydney grabs Leannas hand and they walk into the entrance. Some more high school students loiter up front, talking andgossiping.

INT. MOVING CAR - CONTINUOUS - FLASHBACK

Gabriel gently taps the steering wheel as the car ridesacross a forested road. Sydneys holding his free hand.

Leannas in the back, looking out to the forest.

    LEANNA So many trees.

Sydney looks at Gabe, and they both laugh, charmed by her.

    LEANNA (CONTD)(sincerely)

Thank you. The both of you. I wasstarting to wonder what was goingto kill me first: depression orsolitude.

    Quickly, Syd turns around--

SYDNEYYou need anything, you have myphone number.

(beat)Gabell give you his too, Leanna.

He nods at her through the rear-view mirror.

    LEANNA

    Thanks--Suddenly, her eyes go wide.

Gabe is still looking at the rear view mirror and frowns.Sydney does the same, still looking at Leanna--

    LEANNA (CONTD)Gabriel--!

    Instinctively, Gabriel slams the breaks.

A wave of fire seems to flow from both sides of the forest,

ready to clash against each other.

It reflects against the front window pane of Gabriels car.

A large trees trunk snaps as it starts to fall--

Gabriel puts his car in reverse and hits it. The wheelsscreech as they unleash backwards, and right as it pulls--

    Slam.

The tree falls with a crunch, right where Gabriels car was.

Stepping out of the car, Gabriel stays behind the door. Syddoes the same, and Leanna behind her.

Syd looks to the side of the woods--

VOICEHelp me. Please. I need your help.

The voice is clear, polite, sincere and surreal. And it seemslike Sydney is the only that can hear it.

She runs into the woods, in between the trees.

    GABRIELSYDNEY!

EXT. DARK WOODS - CONTINUOUS - FLASHBACK

Sydney stops, listens, we circle around her, and the samevoice calls for help.

    With Gabriel--

He stops running as he hears something crack. Leanna gasps.Taps Gabriel and points up.

Above them, in the skies, are various arrows engulfed inflames. Flying like shooting stars through the trees.

Theyre safe, seeing how the arrows, or whatever they are, glide in the night sky.

GABRIELWhat the hell is going on?

    Sydney --

Continues to run, until she stops. Her eyes are fixed onsomething that we cant see.

We pan down and see that on the floor, what Sydney wasstaring at, is a figure.

It extends its hand, covered in moss and grass. It hasbeautiful horns coming from the side of its face, with

    milky, pearl eyes.

    Its a faun.

    Its missing its lower half.

FAUNYou... you heard my plead for help?

    It coughs.

Sydney drops to her knees and under her breath--

    SYDNEYWh--

    (beat)What are you?

FAUN...What I am matters not. What

matters is the occurrence ofupcoming event. You must hear whatI am to say to you right now, girl.

    (beat)My pouch. Reach for it.

The faun points at a pouch thats lying on the ground a goodten feet away from him.

Sydney reaches for it, and hands it to the trembling hands ofthis creature.

    She fumbles for her words--SYDNEY

    Are you a...(beat)

    hat are you?

FAUNMy name is Areathan Fargon, thelast of my faun dynasty.

(beat)And you, human, as the gods willhave it, are my successor.

(rushed whisper)Quickly. My pouch. We have no time.

The faun coughs, spitting out blue liquid.

    SYDNEYI dont understand. I dont--

With what little strength the faun has, it reaches into thepouch and pulls out a cube.

Its beauty is radiant. It shines the minute it touches withthe fauns grasp. It hums, a sweet lullaby.

Sydney gasps at the sight of it.

    FAUNTouch it.

    SYDNEY(eyeing the faun)

What will happen if I do?

FAUNYou will receive what little powerI have left.

    Sydney gulps.

    GABRIEL (O.S.)Syd!

    She looks at them.

The both walk like a moth to a flame at the sight of thecube.

    LEANNA

Is that a...Our camera shakily scans the creature, drained of life.

    LEANNA (CONTD)(under her breath)

    ... faun ?

FAUNTrust me, human... I am on yourside in this war.

    Sydney stretches her fingers out--

    GABRIELSyd ...

She looks at Gabriels. Tears are rolling down her face.

    GABRIEL (CONTD)(concerned)

Baby , why are you crying?

She sobs, and with goosebumps says--

    SYDNEYI dont know.

    (beat)I feel...

    (looking at the faun)So sad.

The faun tries its best to smile. She touches the top of thecube. A magnificent glow stretches through her.

    FAUNYou two...

(beat)Touch the side of the cube. Please.I have little time left.

Gabriel gulps, completely skeptical. Syd nods at him, she isstill touching the top of the cube.

He kneels down, getting closer and finally, his fingers makecontact with the side. The glow gets stronger.

Gasping, Gabriels pupils turn fiery red. An orange, deep andpowerful, glow runs through his arm.

Finally, Leanna is the last one of this strange coronation. She touches the opposite side of where Gabriels fingers are.

The glow is alarmingly big.FAUN (CONTD)

You three have the responsibilitynow. Do not fail... protect...

    (beat)...the innocent...

    The faun coughs.

He reaches for Syd and lifts himself. Whispers something intoher ear.

...But the faun is weaker and the cubes glow engulfseverything.

After a powerful, muffled boom, the glow dies down. Gabriel,Sydney and Leanna look down to see no faun. Areathan Fargonis no longer there.

Gabriel, Sydney and Leanna look at each other. We circlearound them.

Something grandiose has just happened. And they dont evenknow what it is.

They see they still hold the cube. A cube which no longerglows.

Gabriel sighs rapidly, his chest almost releasing. Sydneystarts to cry gently at first. He hugs her, she returns it.

Leannas eyes are watery, but she looks to where Areathanonce sat. Dying. Her hand touches the ground.

Back on Gabriel and Syd, who still hug each other.

Gabe reaches for the pouch the faun asked for. He opens theflap and puts the cube in.

    Weakly, they all get up.

Leanna, her skinny figure, trails behind them.

There is no fallen tree. Everything is normal. The cars justin the middle of the road, beams on, doors open. Its like itnever happened. Or things got reset.

INT. MOVING CAR - CONTINUOUS - FLASHBACK

Its completely silent as the three ride in the car. Sydlooks out her window, tears still coming down her face--

She dries them with her sleeves.

Gabe has his eyes on the road. Leannas in the back, eyes upfront.

INT. GABRIELS ROOM - CONTINUOUS - FLASHBACK

Syds covered in a thick comforter, over her back. Gabrielcomes in, handing her a cup of tea.

She looks dazed, in some kind of trance.

He turns to Leanna and gives her a mug of tea, too. She saysthank you with her soft eyes and nod.

Gabriel pulls a seat and the pouch that belonged to the faun.

    SYDNEYI...

She breathes in. Its like she wants to cry, but quicklydries them.

SYDNEY (CONTD)This is ridiculous. I dont know

    why Im like this.(beat)

I have no idea what happened outthere, let alone what that thing--

    (stops)What that thing was .

    GABRIEL(taking a deep breath)
