IBM Cognos extensible visualization is new chart engine provided from
Cognos BI 10.2.1 based on technology RAVE (Rapidly Advanced Visualization
Engine)
Rapidly Adaptive Visualization Engine, Which is an IBM technology that drivesextensible data visualization using a JavaScript grammar, based language JSON
(JavaScript object notation). These extensible visualizations allow you to
create your own visualizations or we can utilize the visualization created by
others.
RAVE visualizations are interactive, animated, highly flexible, pluggable and
portable.
These extensible visualizations are available in active report as of IBM CognosBusiness Intelligence 10.2.1, and in all reports built in Report Studio and
Cognos Workspace Advanced as of IBM Cognos Business Intelligence10.2.1.1
Where to Get Extensible Visualization:
We can download the RAVE visualizations from IBM Analytics Zone (http://www.analyticszone.com)

Steps to Install Visualizations into IBM Cognos:
Go to IBM Cognos Administration and select Library tab
Click on Import Visualizations button
Browse to your downloaded visualization zip file and import
visualizations, then click close

Steps to use Visualization in Active Reports
Go to Report Studio and select Blank Active Report

From tool box drag and drop Visualization to work Area, from the
Visualization Gallery, select the visualization you want and click OK.
From the Source tab, drag items to the appropriate location in the data
container and add any active controls that you want and run the report.

Examples:
1. Open Cognos Connection
2. Navigate to the Go Sales (query) Package
3. Launch Report Studio
4.
Click Create New, select Blank Active Reportand then click on OK.
5. From the Toolbox, drag a Data CheckBox Group to the report area.
6. Drag Sales Query->Order Method ->Order Method Type to the drop
item here zone.

7. From Tool Box Drag Visualization to work Area, Select Waterfall Chart
And similarly select Packed Bubble
8. Drag the following to Waterfall Chart from the Sales Query Folder:

10. To create a connection between Data CheckBox Group and the Waterfall
Chart, click on the Interactive Behavior.

11. Click on Create a New Connection
12. In the Connect dialog, Change Behavior to Filter ,Change Active report
Variable name to v_OrderMethod, Click on connect, Click OK

Note:
1. Need to Ensure Source control would be Data check Box Group and Target Control would be Waterfall Data1
2. You can set a default value to the variable also. Set the default value to Web.(point to interactive behavior, clickon default values)

Click On Connect, Click Ok
14. Similarly create a connection between Data CheckBox Group and
Packed Bubble Chart.
15. Click on the Interactive Behavior next to Data CheckBox Group.
16. Click on Create a New Connection
17. Select Packed Bubble Data 1 in Target control.
18. Click on Connect, Click Ok.
19. Select Packed Bubble Data and Waterfall Chart, In properties set

5. From the Toolbox, drag a Repeater Table to the report area.
6. Select Repeater Table and set Across :8 and Down :1 from properties
pane

15. Click on Connect.
16. Add Data Discrete Values Slider Above Treemap.
17. Drag Sales Query->Time ->Year to the drop item here zone (Slider).
18. Create Connection Between Slider and Treemap
19. Run Report
