!!!
This is the location for mounting the camera, in between your number plate lights. Ensure you aim to mount camera as far forward as possible so you
can get a clear view pass the spare tyre cover.
Open tail gate, remove the top middle plastic trim by gently and firmly pulling towards your body. This is held in by plastic clips only.
!
!!!
Once top section is removed (shown above) you can remove the top side plastic trims by gently and firmly pulling towards your body. These are held
in by plastic clips only.
Once top section is removed (shown above) you can then remove the bottom section by gently and firmly pulling towards your body. This is held in by
plastic clips only.
!!!!
!
Remove the plastic waterproof covering. Slowly pull the plastic off as close to the black tacky glue. Be careful not to tear the plastic. This must be
returned to its original location.
!
!!!
Remove spare tyre cover (this just unclips to remove) and then proceed to undo and remove spare tyre. You have a tyre wrench located in your boot
next to the jack that is the correct size to do this.
Remove these 2x 10mm bolts from the backing plate of spare tyre cover. Then remove the backing plate from vehicle.
!!!
Undo 10mm bolt located behind the spare tyre cover.
Rear number plate cover needs to be removed. Held in place by 7x clips as shown in this image. These are very tight. They can be clenched together from inside of tailgate for easier removal. Please see next image to see
example of this. If any clips remain in the tail gate they must be removed and placed back into number plate cover for re-installation. !
Note: These are very tight, be careful not to break, use a plastic pry bar close to clip after squeezing together inside section of clips.
!!!!!
!!!
This is the inside of the tail gate showing location of the clips. Please inspect carefully and you will notice that the clips can be squeezed together to allow
easy removal of the rear number plate light. !Some locations are in a tight spot but it is possible to pry together. Use a
small angled pick and plastic pry bar. Be careful not to scratch the vehicle. !
!!
!!
All clips should be placed back into the number plate holder for easy re-installation back to vehicle. As per image shown. !
Colours of the clips may vary with different year models.
Place double sided tape in desired camera location as a guide for drilling. Drill a hole to allow for camera to be bolted through. Place nut on rear of
camera threaded bolt and tighten. See image below for rear of number plate holder as a guide. !
!
!!
Rear view with camera mounted and bolt in place. !
Camera cables will be run through the factory number plate light wiring loom grommet. Make a small cut in the grommet to feed cables and seal
with tape or other. !
!!
!!
Return number plate cover to factory location, ensure number plate light plug is plugged back in. Route cables through tail gate along the factory
wiring looms. This ensures neat installation and keeps the wires out of the way of any moving parts in tailgate.
Route cables through factory rubber grommet. Use lubrication to allow for easy feeding of the cables. Use a plastic pull through with cable attached to
allow for easier feeding. !
!!!!!!!!
!
Plastic trims can be pulled open slightly to help run cables through the grommet. Also the rubber door seal can easily be removed to route cables. !Run cables to front of vehicle along hood lining tucked behind the trim and
down the drivers side A pillar.
Ensure you keep cables give as much length as possible to ensure that the cables can run under the drivers side dash and up to behind the stereo. !Please make sure cable is neatly tucked away and routed with original
wiring where possible. !
! Gently pry the plastic side panels off from either side of the stereo. Use a plastic pry bar or similar to ensure no marks made on dash. !
!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!
!!
Remove 4x 10mm bolts, two on either side as per image shown. Then remove the stereo by unplugging all looms at the rear. !
Vehicles with the factory Navigation Screen will have this loom already in the vehicle. The green wire needs to be connected to the vehicles reverse
light signal. Use the “scotch lock” provided. This cable needs to be routed to the fuse box. Behind the passenger glove box.
!!
!!!!!!!!!
!!!!
Remove the glove box by opening the glove box fully. Then holding either side of the glove box gently pull towards your body in an upward motion.
The clips will pop off. Then just remove the clip on the left hand side of the glove box that helps the glove box open slowly, this is done by pinching the
plastic clip together. !Route the green wire from behind the stereo behind the glove box and cable
tie out of the way so it does not hang loose. !This green cable pictured above comes out of the loom from the 2nd plug in from the bottom right hand corner of the stereo. When looking at the stereo
from the rear. !Can be seen in the image of the rear of the stereo. (not circled but is shown)
further on in this guide.
! !!!!!!!!!
!!!!
Using the scotch lock provided (or sometimes there is an existing scotch lock on the green wire in vehicle), connect the green wire to the bottom red
wire in the far left hand side plug of the body control module. !This is shown in the image above. !
This is the reverse light trigger wire and will show 12v+ when the vehicle is in reverse. Please test this wire to ensure it is correct. !
Thin red wire, near the bottom of the plug, hidden behind a black plug lock sometimes can be hard to see.
!!!!!!!!!! !!
!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!
Connect the provided 4 pin plug to the unit as per image. This provides the input for the camera to the unit. !
Here you can also see the plug on the bottom right 2nd in where the reverse trigger input loom plugs into mentioned earlier.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!
Connect the red wire from the camera extension lead to the gray wire in the plug directly below the camera input plug. This wire will provided a 12v+
feed when the accessories of the vehicle is turned on. !It is preferred that this cable is soldered to the wire but you can use the
provided wire connector as an alternative.\ !Ensure you test this wire to confirm it is a 12v+ accessories feed.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!
Connect video signal cable to the new plug and tape together to stop the cable coming loose.
Return stereo to vehicle dash and put back together by following the removal steps in reverse. Return glove box. !
Turn vehicle on and place in reverse and you are finished. !We have added some updated additional information below for assistance.
Additional Information !
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!
We have now included two additional camera configuration options, you will now notice two small loops on the camera loom. White and Green. They control the following options: !Camera Options: !Green - Controls the on screen guidelines, cutting the loop will remove the guidelines leaving it looped leaves guidelines on. !White - Controls the image of the screen, cutting the loop will mirror / flip the image (some people prefer this) !!!
Please note these options are not included for every camera but are located on most. The Toyota Hilux for example we do not offer guidelines on as standard as they are more a
distraction for this vehicle.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!
Ensure when plugging camera into the extension loom they line up correctly. There are two small arrows one on each connector. These need to line up, arrows point to
one another, when plugging the connectors together.
Image of scotch lock / connector. This connects the camera cable to the red power cable on the vehicle as shown earlier in tutorial. Alternative option to
soldering.
!Loom Descriptions
!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!
!!!
Please note not all these looms are included in every kit as some vehicles do not require them. These are a general description of all looms used on various
Toyota vehicles depending on the kit you purchase they may or may not be included and/or may or may not be required. !
If you are unsure please contact us for further information.
This loom is included in your vehicle if you have a 2010 model onwards and your vehicle has a factory Navigation system. !
Green wire is the reverse signal wire and requires 12v + feed from the reverse lights. Purple/White wire is the Vehicle Speed Sense wire and can be connect to the
vehicles ECU not required for the reverse camera setup. !For vehicles with the factory non-navigation Toyota screen, you will need this loom
in addition to the standard kit. !These can be purchased direct from Carbon Car Systems if required. !
If you are putting a newer navigation screen or non navigation screen from a 2010 onwards vehicle into an vehicle that is prior to 2010 then you will require this extra
loom. ie: retro-fitting an older vehicle with the new screen.
!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!
This is the camera loom require for all Toyota models to run the reverse camera. The red cable can be disregard, this is a 6v+ output wire to run the factory 6v Toyota
camera which is of lower quality. !Red wire is not required with Carbon Car Systems camera kits.
This loom is included in the packages for 2010 models onwards and is sometimes required.
Green wire is the reverse signal wire and requires 12v + feed from the reverse lights. Purple/White wire is the Vehicle Speed Sense wire and can be connect to the
vehicles ECU not required for the reverse camera setup.
!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This loom is included in the packages for 2009 models and prior and is sometimes required. Provided with the 2009 prior kit !
Green wire is the reverse signal wire and requires 12v + feed from the reverse lights.
!Patch Lead Cable Colours Description
!!Purple / White - This wire is the vehicle speed signal output and can be used for other items in the
vehicle if you require but not necessary with the reverse camera. !!Green - This is a reverse signal trigger light trigger wire, this can be used to activate the camera when
the vehicle is put in reverse. (typically connected to the red wire from the camera loom)!!Red - This wire is the vehicle hand brake input for the stereo, used for the factory navigation to detect
when the vehicle is parked so as to allow full functions of the navigation locked out features. This requires a negative ground when the vehicles handbrake is engaged.!!
These are the colours for our additional looms only, Toyota reserves the right to change their colour of factory looms at their own discretion and we suggest testing all wires before connect.!

Extra Information On Different Head Units
!!
!!
If you have this type of head unit there is a slight difference in how the camera connects to the head unit. The kit is still the same the connections
are just slightly different
Use the loom provided to plug into this port here. If there is a plug in this port our loom will ’T’ piece in between. You can replace this loom in the vehicle with our new loom if you like you you do not have to keep both.
Pictured below. !
!!!
The new harness will allow you to plug in the camera input loom into the head unit. This allows the yellow video signal cable from the camera to plug
in. !You must also connect the red wire coming out of the camera video
loom to the green wire from this added patch lead. This is the reverse light trigger cable. You can use the scotch lock provided. !
This green wire should get a 12v+ signal when the vehicle is in reverse if it does not then you need to also connect the green wire to the reverse
light trigger behind glove box as above.
