Jathedar: Then why did the Brahmins not bring about changes in Guru Granth Sahib? Q They left no stone unturned to do so, but the Gurus had taken great precautions in the Gurbani itself. However, since the ‘Dasam Granth’ came into being after the Gurus, the Brahmin was able to have his way and he succeeded in his aim. It also is a fact that there never were any real persons by the names of Luv and Kush. They are mythological characters in the Hindu epics, and this truth is acknowledged by the Arya Samajis and other Hindu scholars too. Then why do you describe the Sikhs as the progeny of imaginary characters?

On January 25, 2000 Jathedar Puran Singh took an unprecedented step of excommunicating President of S.G.P.C. (Sikh Parliament), Bibi Jagir Kaur from the Sikh community. He departed from the tradition in two big ways. Firstly, he failed to consult the Jathedars of Keshgarh Sahib and Damdama Sahib and Granthis of Sri Harmander Sahib and Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Secondly, the Hukamnama was issued not from Sri Akal Takht Sahib but from a place called Guna in Madhya Pradesh, which is a center for the notorious RSS, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh. HSS

Giani Puran Singh (From Spokesman Dec. 1999)

Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Puran Singh rang us up to complain that in the letters published in the November issue of the ‘Spokesman’ some readers had used rather harsh language while criticizing him and that it must be discouraged. He pleaded with us that keeping in view his high position in the Sikh Panth, the language used for him should be mild and restrained. We accepted his advice and assured him that we would be careful in future and see to it that the readers in their letters that appear in the Spokesman use no objectionable words. The Jathedar told us that he would not mind at all if the readers criticized him for any of his statements but the language used should not be very objectionable. The readers are also requested to please take note of it. After conceding his objection, other things that were discussed on the phone are being reproduced verbatim, for the information of the readers, as those are quite informative and interesting. Q Jathedar Sahib, a large section of the Sikh Panth is unhappy with you because you have been repeatedly claiming that the Sikhs are the progeny of Luv and Kush. Why are you making this wrong statement again and again? Jathedar: Why should I not speak out the truth? In ‘Dasam Granth’, the Guru has himself written who his ancestors were! Q Singh Sahib, the Sikhs were forced by circumstances to dwell in jungles for about 200 years. During that period, our Gurdwaras were in the hands of the crafty Brahmins, and in order to destroy the distinct entity or the Sikhs, they had grafted many Brahmanical beliefs and practices into our religion. ‘Dasam Granth’ too was such a spurious grafting and it cannot be accepted as the writing of the Tenth Guru. Jathedar: I can’t say about the Hindu scholars, but I have received my education from Baba Gurbachan Singh at Damdami Taksal. He too considered the ‘Dasam Granth' to be the creation of the Tenth Guru. At several places, Raja Ram Chander is also referred to in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Therefore, how can the story of Luv and Kush by a myth?

From The Sikh Bulletin February 2000 Vol. 2 No. 2

Not the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh that I used to belong to for their sporting activities in Bikaner State in the 1940’s but the new nefarious Rashtriya Sikh Sangat. If you want to see the wolves in lion’s clothing, there is a whole pack of them. [Read about them in the Sikh Bulletin of Dec. 1999. From the newspaper reports from Punjab we now hear that Jathedar Puran Singh has had a long meeting with RSS head, Raju Bhaiya, in Kapurthala and Damdami Taksal has established training camps for RSS members at Mehta Chauk, from where they plan to send Jathas into Punjab villages to preach Jathedar Puran Singh’s gospel of Sikh gurus being progeny of Luv and Kush and Sikhs being authentic Hindus. To no one’s surprise ‘Gurbani Gurmat Sidhant Parcharak Sant Smaj of Swami Kashmira Singh is in cahoots with RSS. Strangely though, this Sant Smaj does not appear on his business card. I understand a book is in the works about Hemkunt. No doubt we will be doubly assured that that was the place where the tenth Nanak performed ‘tapasya’ in his prior life [even though we cannot agree on his birth in this life during the historical period]. But to borrow and modify Prof. Gurtej Singh’s term, that is a ’horse of different color’. We will bridle it at another time.

PROMISES MADE TO THE SIKHS BY GANDHI AND OTHER HINDU LEADERS

On 16th march, 1931, Mahatma Gandhi came to a special Sikh congregation held in Gurdwara Shishgunj, Delhi, where he was asked as to what guarantee there was that his Indian National Congress would implement the assurances given to the Sikh people in 1929 at Lahore. His reply appeared in his Young India of the 19th march, 1931, and its states as follows: “Sardar Madhusudan Singh has asked for an assurance that the Congress would do nothing that might alienate the sympathies of the Sikhs from the Congress. Well, the Congress, in its Lahore session, passed a Resolution that it would not enter into or be a party to any settlement with regard to the minority question that failed to satisfy any of the minorities concerned. What further assurances the Congress can give to the Sikhs, I fail to understand. I asked you to accept my word and the Resolution of the Congress that it will not betray a single individual; much less a community… if it ever thinks of doing so, it will

only hasten its own doom… I pray to you, therefore, to unbosom yourselves of all your doubts… What more shall I say? What more can I say than this. Let God be the witness of the bond that binds me and the Congress with you”. When further asked as to what the Sikhs may do in case of betrayal, he said, “The Sikhs could, in that case, take their kirpans in hand with perfect justification before God and man”.

RSS AND SSA [From SB August 2000]

Rashtriya (Hindu) Swayam Sewak Sangh was established in 1925 at Nagpur by a Brahmin (High Caste Hindu) Dr. Hedgewar. Its primary objective is to turn India into an exclusive Hindu state. It insists on considering Jainis and Sikhs as components of Hinduism and is actively engaged in propagating that belief. Brahmin had already included Mahatma Budh as one of many incarnations of Vishnu. The same Brahminic forces are now engaged in including the Sikh Gurus in the long line up of Hindu rishi-munnis (religious personalities). Their souvenir publication “Sangat Sandesh” (Congregational Message) clearly betrays their message and intentions in this regard, (i.e., deny the Sikhs their distinctive identity: annihilation through assimilation). (See Sikh Bulletin Nov. 1999 p. 2-4; Dec. 1999 p. 12 & 13; Feb. 2000 p.4). In 1999, I was surprised to learn from press reports that Central Govt. had made crores of rupees available for celebration of Tercentenary of Khalsa. It is now becoming clear that Rs.50 crore were made available to RSS for preaching to Sikhs in Punjab villages that they were Hindus. Since neither Tohra nor Badal group raised a voice against activities of RSS an equal amount may have been given to them. In USA RSS is known as SSA (Sikh Sangat of America). Their spokesperson appears to be a Devender Singh Sawhney who wrote a lengthy article for India Post of Aug. 13, 1999. Same publication carried their full-page ads in April 16, 1999 and July 16, 1999 issues. Those ads announcing ‘Grand Celebration of the 300th year of the Birth of Khalsa’ are reproduced on pages 11 - 13. See if you recognize any Sikhs and Sikh institutions in those lists, and notice how RSS quotes from Dasam Granth. Is it not strange that the Indian Govt. would pay to translate Dasam Granth into all the Indian languages but not do so for the Adi Granth, the only Sikh Scriptures? Just imagine what would have happened to the Adi Granth scriptures had they not been compiled by the 5th Guru Nanak! Please read more about this enemy of the Sikhs in May, June and July 2000 issues of the Spokesman Weekly.

THE ROOTS GO BACK EVEN FURTHER. To say that the nation was shocked at the depravity is an understatement. One hundred and thirty gurdwaras in Malaysia have never seen anything like this since their inception. The peace of almost one century was shattered on March 1, 2017. But the roots go back to April 2016. April 2016 saw the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Academy launch a series of programs under the banner of Darbar Patshahi 10. The name was a euphemism for the full scale parchar of the Bachitar Natak Granth in local gurdwaras. These programs were launched in a local gurdwara that was already under the control of the Academy. An attempt was made to install the Bachitar Natak Granth in the same Gurdwara. Such is believed to be the ultimate objective of the Academy. A full report of the incident and its analysis is available here: https://asiasamachar.com/category/columns-2/karminder-singh-dhillon/ The Malaysian Gurdwara Council (MGC) – the representative body of the Gurdwaras in Malaysia stepped up to lead the opposition to these Bachitar Natak Granth propagating programs by the Academy. Given that the Malaysian sangat was totally unexposed to the issue of Bachittar Natak, the MGC embarked on a number of programs to educate the sangat on matters concerning the supremacy and sanctity of the SGGS and the SRM which forbade the parkash the of Bachittar Natak Granth. One of the main programs of the MGC was the Ek Granth Ek Panth Ek Maryada. (See my article titled EK GRANTH EK PANTH EK MARYADA – The Malaysian Experience in this issue). The Academy responded in a two prong strategy. First it collaborated with the RSS controlled Takhats of Patna and Harmandar and other outfits such as the Lakhi Jangal Dera to get them to issue “hukumnamas” to the effect that MGC was a “Malesh,” and that the “parkash of Bachitar Natak was allowed” and that kirtan and katha of the rachnas of Bachittar Natak was allowed, as was the case in these places. The collaboration was indeed hand in glove. The Academy leader Paramjit Singh is seen sitting with a microphone in his hand, into which the clergy of the two deviant Takhats are issuing order after order concerning issues and jurisdiction over which they have zero authority. The video was then circulated by the Academy as proof of endorsement of their Bachittar Natak parkash plans. When this video failed to cow the MGC – which responded by requesting Malaysian Sikhs and Gurdwaras to ignore the so called “hukumnamas” of the deviant clergy because they themselves has transgressed the SRM stipulation of NO PARKASH of any book parralled to the SGGS – the Academy shifted gears.

ATTACKING THE EK GRANTH EK PANTH EK MARYADA (EGEPEM) PROGRAMS.

The day is Friday 16 December, 2016. A man stands up to disrupt an ongoing Katha on EGEPEM in a gurdwara. He has no qualms mouthing a slew of vulgarities at the sangat. A heap of profanities were directed at someone’s mother; another pile at someone’s sister, all in the sangat. Four or five men from the sangat, including the Granthis walked towards him and told him to refrain from his attempted disruption. He shouted profanities at them. When the men from the sangat closed in on him, he sat down. But his rain of vulgarities continued even when sitting. I pleaded from the stage for respect for our Guru and the sangat. But to no avail. I concluded my talk while his profanities were still raining. The Granthis started reading out Anand Sahib which was followed by Ardas. Just prior to that his nephew Daljit Singh had stood up to disrupt the ongoing Katha but sat down after the ladies in the sangat shouted him to sit down. That evening while driving out of the Gurdwara, two men on a motorcycle come up behind my car and fling a brick, hitting the back portion of my car. A report by the local media on this incident can be read here:

https://asiasamachar.com/2016/12/17/attempted-assault-dr-karminder-singh-talk-selayang-gurdwara/

The following day, the vulgar mouth puts up a report of his deed on his Facebook as a courageous and praiseworthy act. He claims to have acted on behalf of, and for the good of the sangat. But he hides behind a fake FB ID and photo. The kathakar, he claimed had shown severe disrespect to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji by calling it the one and only Granth of Sikh spirituality or Ek Granth. The disruptor is identified as Malkiat Singh Shotu from Ipoh. He had travelled 250 kilometers to this Gurdwara to carry out his act. He is related by marriage to the leader of the Academy. The Gurdwara Committee, appalled by the disruption announces that the program will be held again and the same kathakar was re-invited to address the sangat. Threats and intimidation followed, but the Gurdwara Committee stood its ground. The program concluded without incident simply because the Committee and sangat was well prepared to prevent another disruption. ATTACKS ON THE EGEPEM PROGAMS CONTINUE. On January 5th 2017 the same Malkiat Singh Shotu shows up with 8 family members and friends at a EGEPEM program in another Gurdwara. He and the group demand that the kathakar be stopped. The katha goes on after the Committee members issue a warning to Shotu that the police would be called if he tried to disrupt the program.

Professor Ghagga ji lost his dastaar and suffered violence simply because he stood on the side of those opposed to the agenda of Bachittar Natak. The MGC, its EGEPEM Parcharaks, and other supporting Gurdwara parbhandaks are subjected to a barrage of false allegations, disrepute and threats on similar grounds by a social media that is run from India. How is it that the issue involves Malaysian Sikhs, but the campaign against all local Sikhs who intend to defend the sanctity of the SGGS as our one and only spiritual Granth and Guru is being orchestrated from India? After all, isn’t installing the Bachittar Natak in every Gurdwara the stated goal of the RSS? Hasn’t the RSS shown its modus operandi often enough in India, the USA, UK and Canada to allow even the cursory observer to detect the same patterns that one sees in Malaysia now? A well-researched but anonymous video depicting the apparent RSS connection in Malaysia is available here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiNnCVwp6UM.
