Introduction Oral cancer or mouth cancer, a type of head and neck cancer, is any cancerous tissue growth located in the oral cavity.

Symptoms 1. Oral lesion, lump, or ulcer that do not resolve in 14 days.2. located: On the tongue, lip, or other mouth areas3. Usually small , Most often pale colored, may be dark or discolored4. Early sign may be a white patch or a red patch on the soft tissues of the mouth5. Usually painless initially6. May develop a burning sensation or pain when the tumor is advanced

Prevalence1. Oral or oropharyngeal cancer is the eleventh most common cancer worldwide

2. Over 300,000 new cases diagnosed annually.

3. Oral cancer is the most common cancer in India;.

4. More than 2 lakh new cases of head and neck cancers are diagnosed each year.

Causes- Risk factors1. Smoking and chewng of Tobacoo2. Taking snuff (snorting tobacco).3. Both heavy and regular alcohol consumption. 4. Consumpton of lots of red meat and processed meat and fried foods .5. GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease).6. HPV (human papillomavirus) infection.7. Prior radiation treatment (radiotherapy) in the head and/or neck area.8. Regularly chewing betel nuts -.9. Exposure to certain chemicals - especially asbestos, sulphuric acid and formaldehyde.10. Too much sun exposure on the lips, as well as sunlamps or sun beds.11. Family history of cancer
