LANDLORDCouple on the top floor skipped out on their rent.

HIPSTER GIRLStephanie and whats-his-name? That's too bad. Theyseemed nice.

LANDLORDWell, the cops were here a few times asking aboutthem. So, maybe not so nice.

Panel 4 The hipster girl looking sadly down at the boxes.

HIPSTER GIRLOh. I hope they're ok.

HIPSTER GIRLCome on. It doesn't matter. If it was your stuffout here, you'd want to know.

Panel 1 In Coil's office. Coil is siting down at a table andCalculus is handing him a tablet computer. Throughthis entire scene, whenever it is possible, we cansee Charge sitting in an office chair near the door.He has the jacket he took from Icicle, nowsleeveless, hung on the back of the chair.

    CALCULUSOk, you're connected and secure.

COILPut it down. Put it on the table.

Panel 2 Close on Calculus setting the tablet on the tablewith a pop-out tripod leg. The screen image showsKing Shard.

KING SHARDCoil. Good afternoon. How are things in RapidCity?

    COILYou talked to Hector...

Panel 3 Coil leaning in to talk into the tablet's camera.

COILAnd now you're talking to me. So, I bet youalready have a pretty good idea what's going onhere.

Panel 4 Large panel of King Shard reclining on a glass chaiselounge he is looking up at, and addressing along-limbed android thing with a video display/camerafor a head. Coil is on the video display.

KING SHARDYes. Templar. I ran across him a few times, backin the old days. Did you know that?

    COILFigured you might've.

KING SHARDI knew even then that he was... unhinged.

Panel 5 Close on King Shard thinking about the past.

KING SHARDThere was something in his eyes.

Panel 6 Back on Coil's side of the conversation. Coil isspeaking to the tablet, and Calculus is stepping outthe door.

    COIL

So what should we do with him?

    Page 3 Consultation. 6 panels

Panel 1 A shot of Coil's tablet sitting on the table.Coil hashis hands resting on the edge of the table. Hisfingers, hands, and wrists are wrapped with a varietyof wires. If possible, Shard looks bored ordistracted.

KING SHARDHector says he turned heel, do you think it's forreal? Not some kind of ploy?

Panel 2 Shot from behind the tablet, looking at Coil. Helooks irritated and we can see that wires from hishands are creeping out like vines across the tablesurface.

KING SHARDThere is a history, you know, of players goingfrom one side to the other... and back again.

COILRight. Makes it hard to trust people in this

    business.

Panel 3 Similar to the previous panel, but moved more to theside. Coil is relaxing slightly. He is lifting thehand which is closer to the viewer. There are thinwires stretching and peeling from the table surface.

COILHe seems to be on the level. But he also seemscrazy, so it's hard to tell.

    KING SHARD

You are aware of the potential in this situation. This could be a major coup for you.

Panel 4 Continuing the movement of the last two panels, nowwe can see Shard on the screen. Coil is now liftinghis other hand, wires cling to the table, but not asmany as in the previous panel.

KING SHARDOr, you could be the fool who invited the fox intothe hen house. Ultimately, it's your territory...

Close on Shard's image on the tablet.

KING SHARD...and it'll fall on your head, not mine.

Panel 6 Wider shot of Coil leaning back as he listens.

    KING SHARD

Now, Hector also tells me that there is somecomplication between you and the young lady thatbrought in Templar. Is this true?

Page 4 Icicle with Templar. 8 panels

Panel 1 Close on Icicle as she stands, very tense. She islooking slightly up and weighing her options.

Panel 2 Wider shot now showing Icicle and Templar in anotherroom in the building Coil uses for a headquarters. Itis a waiting room/lounge for bad guys. There arecouches and big chairs and a huge flat screen TV with

games hooked up to it. There are nice, new, thingswhich have not been treated well. There are fullashtrays and empty bottles around. Templar is sittinga thick recliner a few yards away from Icicle. He isleaning forward to talk to her. Her back is to him.

    TEMPLARThat was your boss?

    ICICLECoil.

Panel 3 Closer on Templar. He is sizing up Icicle.

TEMPLARI gather you don't like him very much.

Panel 4 From behind Templar, looking at Icicle as she turnsto shoot him a look. Now she is sizing him up.

Panel 5 Wide shot with Templar on the left and Icicle on theright. He is rising from his recliner and holding upa hand in non-threatening way.

TEMPLARLook, you can trust me. I don't have a stake inthis either way.

TEMPLARI don't know any of these new guys.

ICICLEOf course you don't. You're the new one here. Youdon't know anything about what goes on. Open youreyes.

    Templar talking.

TEMPLARI've seen more evil than you will in a lifetime.Ok? So, I know a thing or two about how it works.

TEMPLARI know what I am, and I know what I'm capable of.

Panel 7 Templar and Icicle in the same panel. He is talkingcalmly and she is raising her voice at him.

TEMPLARI'm telling you right now, you can trust me.

ICICLEStop saying that! You sound like a kid.

    Panel 8 Icicle talking.

    ICICLE

I'm saying this to help you.

ICICLEI know you've seen a lot and done a lot, but youdon't know the first thing about living this life.So listen.

    Page 5 Trust. 7 panels

Panel 1 Icicle and Templar standing facing each other andtalking. Icicle is pointing down toward the ground. She looks more serious than angry.

ICICLEThis is The Syndicate. What makes sense out therein your other life doesn't mean a damn thing inhere.

ICICLEThese people are all phonies. Every single ofthem. The only thing that matters is what you canmake someone else believe. And that's it.

Panel 2 Icicle leaning in a bit closer, attempting to be

conspiratorial, and gesturing toward the door.

ICICLEYou think Coil's in charge here because hedeserves to be? No. He's the boss because he madeenough of us believe he was that dude.

    ICICLEAnd then he was.

Panel 3 Icicle turning away, she looks disgusted anddisappointed. Templar is still steady and serious.

ICICLEYou can't say things like that. You don't say "youcan trust me". They'll all know it's a lie, because everything anyone says here is a lie.

ICICLEOr worse, for you, they'll think you're tellingthe truth. That's a weakness to them, and all they

know how to do is attack.

TEMPLARI've got no loyalty to Coil. That's all I meant. You can tell me about him and it'll stay betweenyou and me.

Panel 4 Wide panel with Templar at the left and Icicle at theright. This is a pause. She is sizing him up. Herballoon is at the far right.

    ICICLE

You don't need to do this. This isn't who you are.

Panel 5 Templar looking grim and holding up his hand to showoff his magic ring.

TEMPLARI thought that, too. I thought that for years, andI was wrong.

TEMPLARI knew as soon as I put on this ring, and feltthat power for the first time, that I was damned.I knew it right away, but I spent the rest of mylife in one kind of denial or another.

Panel 6 Icicle looking intently at the ring, Templar speaksfrom off panel.

TEMPLARI just can't do that anymore. I wasted my lifetrying hold this back, and it all came out anyway. So, what good is it to fight who you are?

Panel 7 Close on Templar looking serious and confident.

TEMPLARAnd this? This might not be the real me, but itfeels a lot more like acceptance than denial.

    Page 6 Splash. 1 panel

Panel 1 Full page shot of Coil walking in the hall outsidehis office. Charge is a few steps behind him. Thehall is dirty and poorly lit. These man look verymuch a part of it. It is a low angle shot making themloom ominously.

Panel 3 Wide shot of the downstairs production floor. Thiswas previously a medium sized factory/assembly/packing area. Most of the machinery is gone orcovered with tarps. There are some of thoseroller/conveyor belt things. Coil and Charge arestanding down in the middle of the floor. There is astaircase on the back wall. Icicle is coming down it,

followed by Templar and Crimson Ghost.

COILOk, I don't have much to talk about, so let's justdo this quick.

Panel 4 Tight shot on Icicle's eyes, staring with hate.

Panel 5 Templar and Icicle facing Coil and Charge. There isabout 10 feet between them. Ghost is lurking aroundoff to the side.

COILFirst, Templar, The Syndicate is very interestedin what you bring to the table. We'd like to workwith you

Panel 7 Tight on Coil's mouth smiling.

    COILGood.

    Page 8Pulling weight. 7 panels

Panel 1 This page will feature an expressionist visualdevice. Through the course of the page, Icicle isfocusing more and more intently on Coil at the costof everything else. The first panel will be fullydrawn and inked, as will the figures of Icicle andCoil in every panel. Everything else, including othercharacters, backgrounds, word balloons, and possiblypanel borders, however will gradually fade away (orbecome more distorted) in each successive panel. Thefirst panel will be completely normal, but by thelast panel, only Coil and Icicle will be visible. Each panel should be laid out as though the othercharacters are there, making their absenceconspicuous.Coil turning to speak directly to Templar. Iciclewatching them talk

COILFor the time being, this means you'll be answeringto Hector and myse...

Panel 2 Coil Handing Templar a small cell phone. Icicle is

    still watching. The fading begins.

Panel 3 Shot from over Icicle's shoulder as she watches Coiltalk. Coil is stepping slightly away from Templar andgesturing toward Charge. The fading continues.

COIL...ll us here, use the contact labeled 'fester'.

That rings to a pay phone upstairs.

Panel 4 Coil turning to comment to Charge and pointing athimself authoritatively. We can see that Charge andCoil have balloons near them, but by this point, theyare too distorted or faded to read. Icicle is stillstaring at Coil.

Panel 5 Coil's still talking to someone, he is turned mostlyaway from the reader. He is gesturing as he talks. His word balloon is unreadable. There is room in thepanel for other stuff, but it is faded beyond

Panel 6 Coil turning to look at the reader. He looksirritated and is speaking. His balloon and everythingelse are faded out completely.

Panel 7 Wide panel from Icicle's POV, with room for Templar,Coil, Charge, and Crimson Ghost all to be looking at

her. But, the only thing actually visible in thepanel is Coil. He looks annoyed and is sayingsomething, but of course we can't tell what it is.

Page 9 Snap back. 6 panels

Panel 1 Exact same lay-out as panel 7 from the previous page, only now the other characters and elements are drawnin. They are all looking at the reader. Templar isjust looking. Charge looks slightly amused, Coil isirritated, and Ghost almost looks offended.

    COIL

    ...get that?

Panel 2 Shot of Icicle looking a bit surprised. It should bevery clear that the backgrounds have returned. She isreaching for a small pocket on her belt-line where aphone is buzzing.

    ICICLEIt's my phone.

Panel 3 Icicle looking at the display on her phone. It is awide enough panel to show the passage of a few

    seconds.

    ICICLEA text alert...

    ICICLEIt's just...

Panel 4 Icicle turning and beginning to walk away from thegroup. Templar is surprised and possibly concerned.

    ICICLE

    I have to go.

Panel 2 Close on her as she moves a small stack of magazinesout of the way to see what is in the bottom of a box.

Panel 3 Looking down over her shoulder, we can see that she

has uncovered some VHS tapes and DVDs,, as well as anold pair of headphones.

Panel 4 She is lifting the old pair of headphones out of thebox, she is almost smiling as she looks at them.

Panel 5 Icicle is still kneeling, and she is reaching towardanother box in the foreground. Again, she looks likeshe might smile. Behind her, we can see that anotherman has walked up to the set of boxes. If we areclever, we will notice the familiar torso of Charge.

Panel 3 Templar helping Icicle to her feet, but looking atCoil.

TEMPLARThere's nothing to be gained from this. Is there? This is just you acting like a child.

    ICICLECoil. Not nothing.

    COIL

I'm the child? Am I the one playing white knightfor the damsel in distress?

Panel 4 Icicle pressing close to the much larger Templar ashe raises one arm to shield her. She is staring atthe ring on his finger. Coil speaks from off panel.

ICICLEI'm not going to do nothing, Coil.

Close shot on Icicle touching Templar's finger, theone with the magic ring. Her hand is covered in herice, and it is spreading up his finger.

Panel 6 Very similar shot, but with the ring sliding off intoher hand.

Panel 7 Templar recoiling as his power wavers.

    TEMPLARNo! You stupid little girl!

Page 20 Kill Coil. 2 page spread.

Panel 1 This is the primary image taking up both pages. Largepanel of her dramatically slipping on the ring, thereare already small bits of magic glow cracking out ofit. She is staring straight ahead. Behind her, therapidly fading Templar is collapsing.

    ICICLE

I said, Coil, I'm not doing nothing.

    ICICLEI'm killing you.

Panel 2 The rest of these images are small, maybe even inset. They show the chaos that is going on around Icicle inthe few seconds after she puts on the ring. The firstone is a now depowered Templar turning away andshielding himself.

Panel 3 Coil reaching forward with his left hand. The wires

are snaking from it toward the reader.

Panel 4 A mystic glow beginning to envelop her hand, stillheld aloft.

Panel 5 Charge half-way to his feet, looking wrecked.

Panel 6 Very tight shot on wires wrapping around flesh. Tootight to tell where the wires are.

Panel 7 Icicle looking surprised and slightly alarmed.

Panel 8 Those wires on that flesh again, but now they are

constricting and the flesh below them is tearingslightly.

Panel 9 Icicle now screaming in horror and pain.

Panel 10 Tight shot on her hand, with the ring on it, hittingthe ground. It is framed tight enough that you wouldassume it is still attached.

Panel 11 Wires whipping around in blood.
