Naach Revolution

Naach Revolution - a desi dance festival where everyone who takes part feels like a winner – has just completed its 5th Annual Show. Jayesh Mehta

launched Naach Revolution on 20th May, 2006 under his Aum Events banner. “My idea was to give a plat-form to talented kids and the teachers and award them for excellence, while not leaving out any one from being recognized” states Mr. Mehta. "e juxtaposition of Naach Revolution against all other dance competitions is conveying that every dance team and all talents get a chance to perform and are appreciated for their talent. When Jayesh Mehta created Naach Revolution – a desi dance festival – he had big ideas, but he never expected to receive so much support, inspiration and superhuman motivation from all the choreographers and students. What went on stage in 2006 with 12 teams of 185

students trained by 12 choreographers, has today grown into one of the most sought after dance shows in the Tri-State area. Mehta adds that, “Naach Revolution portrays that Indi-an people who have adopted and live in a western world stay connected with their roots through Indian dance and music, which forms our cultural identity. Naach Revolution is a festival of being immersed in nothing but DanceSport. It provides an excellent opportunity for dance aficionados to scout out upcoming perfor-

mance talent.” Naach Revolution challenges students with a wide range of choreography by very talented Indian choreographers from the tri-state area. Without fail the students perform their challenging works of classic and modern Indian dance. Jayesh Mehta’s Naach Revolution is a desi dance fest with a twist where clas-sical, semi classical and Bollywood dances are presented with pure energy and wit.

Health

Risk Factors for OsteoporosisPostmenopausal women, including those who have had early or surgi-cally induced menopause, or abnor-mal or absence of menstrual periods are at greater risk.

nervosa or bulimia

term use of corticosteroids and an ticonvulsants

that has/had osteoporosis is a risk factor for the o! spring. higher risk who are exceptionally thin (with a body mass index of 19 or less) or have small body frames tend to have a higher risk because they may have less bone mass to draw from as they age. roid hormone also can cause bone

loss. that a! ect bone health. Stomach surgery (gastrectomy) and weight- loss surgery can a! ect your body’s ability to absorb calcium. So can conditions such as Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, hyperparathyroidism and Cushing’s disease — a rare dis order in which your adrenal glands produce excessive corticosteroid hormones.

SymptomsIn the early stages of bone loss, you usually have no pain or other symp-toms. But once bones have been weakened by osteoporosis, you may have osteoporosis signs and symp-toms that include:

a result of a fractured or collapsed vertebra

or other bone

PreventionsBuilding strong bones during child-

hood and adolescence can be the best defense against developing osteopo-rosis later. " e average woman has acquired 98% of her skeletal mass by 30 years of age.Eat a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D. Dairy products are one, but by no means the only, source of calcium. Almonds, broccoli, spin-ach, cooked kale, canned salmon with the bones, sardines and soy products, such as tofu, are rich in calcium. Get-ting enough vitamin D is just as im-portant to your bone health as get-ting adequate amounts of calcium. Engage in weight-bearing exercise. such as walking, jogging, running, stair climbing, skipping rope, ski-ing and impact-producing sports — mainly a! ect the bones in your legs, hips and lower spine. Swimming, cycling and exercising on machines such as elliptical trainers can pro-vide a good cardiovascular workout, but because such exercises are low impact, they’re not as helpful for im-proving bone healthAdopt a healthy lifestyle with no smoking or excessive alcohol intake. Take medication to improve bone density when appropriate.

OSTEOPOROSIS

We a k B o n e sby Dr. Maitri Patel, M.D.

When our bones become increasingly porous and weak, it is called osteopenia or osteoporosis depending on the severity. If you have osteoporosis, you have an increased risk for fractured bones, particularly in the hip, spine, and wrist causing disability.

In the United States, nearly 10 million people already have osteoporosis. It is the most common bone disease. About 80% of those with osteoporosis are women. Of people older than 50 years of age, one in two women and one in eight men are predicted to have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. White and Asian racial groups are at greatest risk.
