RANGE ROVER GENERATIONS

1970 – 1994…

The

CLASSIC The Range Rover Classic started life as a 3-door

recreational 4x4, with a manual gearbox and

a 3.5 litre V8 engine.

• The winner of the very first 1979 Paris-Dakar rally was a Range Rover. It won again in 1981. • It wasn’t until 1981 that Land Rover introduced a 5-door option; it was so popular that the 3-door was discontinued in 1984 in the UK. • YVB 151H – that was the number plate of the very first Range Rover.

1994 - 2002…

The

P38A Available with a 4.0-litre or 4.6-litre engine, this

was introduced for those wanting a bit more luxury. Its body was built with a steel inner shell,

to improve quality.

•The ‘P’ stands for project. •The new model featured an updated V8 engine.

•Work on the new model began in 1988. •Two designs were made – one by Land Rover;

one by Bertone.

L322 Designed to be even more luxurious, manual

transmission was rejected in favour of automatic, ranging from 5- to 8-speed. The

initial engine was a BMW 4.4-litre V8, or a 2.9-litre TD6 diesel.

•Although designed when BMW owned Land Rover, it was put into production while under ownership of Ford.

•The L322 features a monocoque body shell. •.

•In 2006, the L322 started using Jaguar petrol engines.

•Supercharged Range Rovers all wear a black Land Rover badge.

2012 - PRESENT…

The

L405 The latest generation of Range Rover debuted at the Paris Motor Show 2012. Unlike its predecessors, it uses the

specially developed all-aluminium premium lightweight architecture, and is available with a

supercharged V8 engine, or TDV6/TDV8 diesel engines.

•The first Range Rover hybrid was released in 2013, powered by both diesel and electric, with a TDV6 3.0-litre engine. •Largest wheelbase of all – it stands at a colossal 2922mm. •The Range Rover Classic retailed at £1,998; the L405 basic costs around £70,000
