Principal’s Message
Thank you to parents and guardians that attended the Ranchero Remembrance Day Ceremony on
November 9. The student presentations were meaningful and highly respectful of those who
fought for our freedoms. Thank you parent volunteer Nicole Robinson for her time in helping
organize this ceremony. Also, thank you to our student hosts Emma, Ainslie and Riona and the
students in our Colour Guard: Talis, Gavin, Blaze, Noelin, Hillary, and Shay.
Thank you to our Leadership Students for organizing the Coin Carnival. A total of $310.66 was
raised and will be donated to the local SPCA. Miss Turner has done an amazing job with this
group of students – Thank you!
We are very much looking forward to this year’s winter concert “Twas The Night Before
Christmas”. There has been a change to the concert organization. Students in grades seven and
eight will be performing a Band Concert and students in Kindergarten through grade 6 will be
singing songs from and narrating “Twas The Night Before Christmas”. The concert is set for
Thursday, December 13 at Ranchero Elementary; doors will open at 5:30 pm. All classes will be
presenting a song at the center of the stage. We are requesting that parents and guardians dress
semi-formal for this very special event.
Lost and Found clothing is on display in the hallway outside the office. Students will be asked to
look for any items they may have lost. Items not claimed by December 14 will be donated to the
Salmon Arm Thrift Store.
Family Letter Writing Day is on Friday, December 7. I have heard from staff the atmosphere is
very special, as family members and friends work alongside students to create writing. All adults
are invited to the school to share in the experience with their children. Coffee and tea will be
provided for all guest writers. Please bring your own beverage containers and your own stamps
or money for the post office to buy stamps.
Thank you to the Rotary Club of Salmon Arm (Shuswap) for a very generous donation of $600
to support the Ranchero Food Program. These funds will support the purchase of healthy foods
that will be provided to students in need at breakfast and lunch time.
On behalf of all the staff at Ranchero Elementary School, I would like to wish our students and
their families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Have a safe, relaxing and fun-filled
holiday. We are all looking forward to seeing the students back at school in the New Year on
January 7, 2019!
Sincerely, Doug Cumming Principal

Santa’s Zombie Apocalypse Salmon Arm Secondary invites you the Acting 11/12 classes’ winter production of
Santa’s Zombie Apocalypse, written by Bradley Walton. This family-friendly comedy is fun
for the whole family.
When Santa is trapped by zombies (who have somehow gotten into the North Pole),
two reindeer fawns are determined to save the day. But as they make their way through
the toy shop, encountering wayward zombies and stranded elves, they learn that saving
the day is not as easy as it sounds. It’s certainly not like any video game they’ve ever
played. And, why is that zombie eating a doll’s head??
This play is a co-production with Shuswap Theatre. Performances will take place at
Shuswap Theatre (41 Hudson St. NW – across from the Salmar Grand), playing Thurs.-
