Co education means the teaching of both boys and girls in the
same school and under the same roof. It means imparting the
same education to both the gender without any division. This
system of education aims at bringing boys and girls together. It
allows free mixing of sexes without any hang up.

The first advantage is that if boys and girls are taug ht
together there will not be anyneed for opening separateschools for boys and girls.
Secondly, boys and girls haveto live together in the society intheir later lives, the girls will not
feel shy in the presence of boys
It will create a sense of healthycompetition among boys and
girls.
It is also a common experiencethat the boys behave decently
in the company of girls.
Rather it will give them theopportunity to come to each other and understand each
other fully.
Because of co-education thegirls and boys can interact with
each other and be familiarwith each other's environment.
There will be no problem of discipline among the students.
It helps to break down themisconceptions of each sex
about the other and providesan excellent foundation for the
development of realistic,meaningful and lasting
relationships in later life.

The history of co-education in India has been of mixedkind ancient schools and colleges.
Social mixing of boys and girls was not allowed. This wasconsidered essential to maintain the purity of character in
them.
Co - education provides economical and advanced

But due care must be taken at hig h school and inter-classes where lot of physical and mentalchanges take place naturally in children. Students must be guided properly to avoid theirgoing astray.
In this way the inferiority complex of girls was removed and they started to have the feeling of being equal to the boys.
Take the example of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, who in the world could ever think that females willenter politics but she proved her worth and at last became the Prime Minister of India.
Kiran Bedi who took the hig hest post in the Police.

We should not believe in the morality of the
medieval ages. The world is changing fast todayand women are being given an equal status with
men in the society. Let us, therefore accept the
changing order and open more and more co-educational institutions in future and say good bye
to separate institutions.
