RAMAC Newsletter

The RAMAC club needs a newsletter. I volunteered to fill

in until the first of the year, so like Otis I have 2 days as of

my writing:) Please support your club and volunteer.

Here is the link to the RAMAC web site. http://ramac-rc.com/

This month we meet Jack Goad, our newest member and a complete neophyte

RC pilot. Jack is a marvel and someone we can all admire – he is 91 years young

and still working a full time job. We see him each time we pass the Waste Manage-

ment site at the entrance to Warren Field. Otis has known him for many years (they

both lived in Hayfork in years gone by) and recently Jack came up to the field and

said to Otis that he (Jack, not Otis) might as well learn to fly as just watch us have fun.

Sooo, with some help from members and Otis’ purchasing acumen, Jack will soon be

ready to get on the buddy box.

Jack was born in Minnesota but calls Missouri his home. He and Janie live in an

apartment on Hilltop in Redding. During WW II Jack was in the 82nd

Airborne and

made 52 jumps! To my knowledge he will be the first member of RAMAC to have

jumped from his plane. After the war he became a bus driver in the Midwest, then

moved on to California and is finishing up work with his 25 years with Waste Manage-

ment. When you see him at the field, say hello and chat – you can check up on some

the stories Otis has told.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ~ 2013

This year’s Christmas Dinner & Raffle at the Elks Lodge in Redding, was well attended ~ over sixty members, spouses and friends including Gary Grant and his wife from the Toys for Tots ~ enjoyed the tasty dinner pre-pared by Chef Chris. The serving line Chef Chris set up

went very well. Everyone was able to pick what they wanted to eat and the amount. Thanks Chris. We also enjoyed the beautiful cake Russ & Ruth Duclos brought ~ Ruth made the gorgeous centerpieces for all the tables. Those who were able to make it, enjoyed not only the delicious dinner but a very lively raffle !! Tom Dodson donated the use of his PA system, making it much easier to hear what was being said and/or raffled off. Thank You, Tom.

Speaking of Raffle ~ Mike Brown did a fantastic job, again. Raffle ticket sales exceeded the amount spent plus paying for the rental of the Hall. To those who donated items for the raffle ~ a BIG THANK YOU ~ those who bought tickets ~ THANK YOUR for your support ~ and last but the best ~ WE ALL THANK YOU, MIKE for doing such a good job ~ you are always there to pick up the slack when we need you the most !! Some of the items won were: Ed Heinzel, 80” wing span Cub; Charlie Hoisington, Fun Cub; Phil Harvey, Nikon camera; Norm Van Dyke, lots & lots of floats !! Shirley & Audrey purchased the Ladies gift ~ heard a lot of nice comments about them ~ also, thanks to Karen Van Dyke, Kathy Hartz, Audrey, Shirley & Ed, for showing up early to decorate. Tere Hancock & Julia Heinzel were there to greet everyone as they came in ~ Thank You All, for helping make it a success.

The out-going President, Otis Bershers, presented his staff with a nice plaque, thanking them for their support for the last two years. He said he was very apprecia-tive of all of their hard work and efforts, making his job a lot easier. His plans for the New Year are to relax and do more flying but will help the new officers in any way he can.

The new, incoming President, Jerry Nys-trom, introduced his officers, Vice President, Russ Duclos: Secretary, Phil Harvey and Treas-urer, Dean Hancock. After much to do, Jerry pre-sented Otis & Carol with a very nice plaque, thanking them for all of the hard work they have

done for the last two years for the club. Thanks Jerry.

It’s the New Year & time to send in your Dues for 2013 ~ some have already paid and received their new membership card ~ you can mail a check for $40 for the year to: RAMAC P. O. Box 943, Shasta Lake, CA 96019 ~ or give it to Phil Harvey (new Secretary) or Dean Hancock (new treasurer) if you have any questions you can call either one of them ~ they will be happy to help.

We are still in need of a Newsletter Editor ~ if you can cut & paste ~ you could do the Newsletter ~ well, maybe a little bit more, but Mike Brown tells us anyone can do it !! Please, we need this position filled asap ~ one of the requirements for AMA is to have written communication to the club members. We need the newslet-ter to let our members know what’s happening in the club, when & where events will take place and who the latest members are. If you have a few hours to spare, let Mike Brown or one of the club officers know. WE NEED YOUR HELP !!!

This is my final minutes as secretary; I hope I haven’t bored you too much in the last years.

Thanks again, for everyone’s support ~ I really appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Carol Bershers, Secretary, RAMAC

2012 RAMAC Christmas party

The Christmas party was held at the Redding Elks Lodge, just north of Lake Redding

park. The Elks people were very friendly when everything was being set up and the

place looked absolutely beautiful. I am not going to try and remember who did what, or

even who all came, as I would undoubtedly get many things, names etc… wrong. I will

go as far to say it was a great time and I am quite sure everyone had a good time. I will

also say that during the dinner the gavel was passed from...well almost past, President

Otis Bershers to Jerry Nystrom. I am sure Jerry will do a good job and will take of the

club to the best of his abilities, we are lucky to have him. I will also add it will be a hard

spot to fill following Otis. Otis has been as every AMA charter club wishes their club

president would be. He listened to what the majority wanted, never pushing his own

agenda or outstepping his authority. He followed the clubs rules laid down by the clubs

members. Besides being an ok guy to boot. A club can’t ask for more! And we got Carol

in the bargain, and what an absolute gem she is. We all love you both, thanks for every-

thing. So now a pictorial view of the evening.
