Rainforests in Sri Lanka Most of Sri Lanka's endemic species are

found in the Rainforests

Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds,

20 are rainforest species

Birds such as Sri Lanka Blue Magpie and

Red faced Malkoha are found nowhere

else on earth

Threats- Rainforests in Sri LankaRainforests in Sri Lanka are currently facing significant threats due to encroachment, deforestation and poaching. Due to lack of buffer zones, rainforests are destroyed for small-scale tea and rubber plantations.

About - Rainforest Protectors TrustRegistered under the Public Trustee Department, Rainforest Protectors Trust works towards purchasing and permanently protecting privately held rainforest lands rich in bio-diversity that are on sale and in danger of being destroyed.

Conservation- Rainforest Protectors TrustBy purchasing and protecting private rainforest land in buffer zones, the core zone of the rainforest is effectively protected against encroachment and deforestation.

Projects - Rainforest Protectors TrustRainforest Protectors Trust is currently focusing on two key regions. Establishing buffer zones in Northern Sinharaja and acquiring private inholdings within Udakiruwa Rainforest - the last Rainforest in UVA.

Projects - Rainforest Protectors TrustProject #1:

Protect 11 acres directly bordering Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest. The land has 4 acres virgin Rainforest and 7 acres secondary forest.

Project Cost: Rs. 25 lakhs

Projects - Rainforest Protectors TrustProject #2:

Protect 17.5 acres private inholding within Udakiruwa Rainforest - the last Rainforest in UVA.

Cost: Rs. 26 lakhs Financial Need: 13 lakhs (1:1 matching)

Sponsor- Rainforest Protectors Trust

Sponsoring a project with full funding (or 50% on 1:1 matching projects) gives the sponsor right to highlight project in promotional campaigns for CSR/CER

Sponsor may visit project site anytime with prior notice provided to Rainforest Protectors Trust and may further use the site for non-invasive recreational activities such as hiking, camping, bird watching etc.
