By Pastor Cheryl

The Bible The Bible is a collection of 66 books with 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. Originally written in Hebrew and Greek, it is still being translated into different languages. There are many different translations in English. Translations are word for word to paraphrasing. What is important is to find a trans-lation that you are comfortable with when reading. The next step is to open the Bible and read it. A good place to start is the Psalms. The Psalms capture the essence of God and human nature. Then move on to the

four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The Gospels tell of who Jesus is and his ministry on earth. The rest of the New Testament tells the story of the early church; the problems they faced and the resolution of those problems. The Bible is our Holy Scriptures and foundation of our faith. The Holy Scriptures are filled with truth and God’s love for us and his creation. When we spend time with the Bible we can be inspired and grounded in the truth. As 2 Timothy 3:14-17 states: “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believe, knowing from whom you have learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.” Let us be knowledgeable in our faith by having more knowledge of the Bible. The Bible gives us the truth of who we are, whose we are, who God is and what is happening in the world. It is an amazing book where the author is always alive and the book speaks to us when we read it. The Word of God is a gift and we are fortunate to be able to read it and own one. Come, delve into the Bible with us this summer during our Bible Study series on “Living in the Covenant”, being held every Sunday morning at 10:30am and every Wednesday evening at 5:00pm in the Fireside Room. Pick the time that works best for you in a given week. Drop in when you can. Read this newsletter for all of our ministry opportunities—don’t take a vacation from church—we hope to continue to see everyone throughout the summer!

We’ll resume Community Supper in September—see you then!

Call Committee Corner

We know that many members have been wondering and asking if there is any update to share regarding the status of our current call process. We can report that the call committee has now received a first group of names released by the SE Synod Office for us to review the individual Roster Minister Profiles and then make a decision regarding scheduling a first personal candidate interview for those who perhaps meet the criteria established for our Associate Pastor position. This interview process has be-gun; however it is important that because of confidentiality we are not able to share specific details. Earlier there was the opportunity for candidate names to also be submitted by CTK members; but no eligible information was received. If perhaps you now might have a suggested nomination, please feel free to contact a Call Committee member.

Elected Call Committee Members Ann Stewart, Chairperson

Carrie Kijenski, Travis Lupke, Matthew Birkmaier, Michael Much, Jeri Retzlaff, Kathy Brozik

Christ the King Graduation Class 2019

Summer Youth Musical This summer’s musical happens the week of August 5-9 with presentations on August 10 and 11 at CTK and August 18 at Grace Lutheran Church, on the corner of 4th and Main Streets in Mankato. When you step into “The Kingdom Connection”, the Bible comes to life! You leave the modern world behind and enter into the ancient world of kings who lived over two thousand years ago! There are 10 main characters as well as several smaller roles and plenty of solos and ‘one liners’. Watch for information about registration and tryouts.

There are times when members need a little extra help in their lives. Christ the King’s Meals Ministry provides meals to those with special circumstances when needed. If you would like to be put on this list of those who prepare and deliver a meal to families in crisis, new situations, or in time of sickness, please contact Justine Carlson to be added to our list. Also, if you are ever in need of meals, contact Justine as well!

Prayer Article Series submitted by Pastor Donohue Sarff With Christ in The School of Prayer – by Andrew Murray

Third Lesson – “Pray to the Father, who is in secret” or Alone with God.

“But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret; will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

After Jesus had called His first disciples He gave them their first public teaching in the Sermon on the Mount. He there expounded to them the kingdom of God, its laws and its life. In that kingdom God is not only King, but Father; He not only gives all, but is Himself all. In the knowledge and fellowship of Him alone is its blessedness. Hence it came as a matter of course that the revelation of prayer and the prayer life was a part of His teaching concerning the New Kingdom He came to

set up. Moses gave neither command nor regulation with regard to prayer: even the prophets say little directly of the duty of prayer; it is Christ who teaches to pray. And the first thing the Lord teaches His disciples is that they must have a secret place for prayer; everyone must have some solitary spot where they can be alone with God.
