A train station, also called a railroad station (mainly in North American English) or railway station (mainly in British English) and often shortened to just station, is a railway facility where trains regularly stop to load or unload passengers or freight. It generally consists of a platform next to the track and a station building (depot) providing related services such as ticket sales and waiting rooms. If a station is on a single track main line, it usually has a passing loop to facilitate the traffic. The smallest stations are most often referred to as 'stops' or, in some areas of the world, as 'halts' (flag stops). Connections may be available to intersecting rail lines or other transport modes such as buses or rapid transit systems. There are so many railway stations in Australia, we will description some of them, they are: 3. 1. Melbourne Central Train Station (Swanston St, Melbourne) Melbourne Central is an underground station in the metro railway network of Melbourne, Australia. The station is under La Trobe Street, between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets, on the northern edge of the CBD. The station is named after the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre it is beneath, and is not the city's main station Flinders Street is the main suburban station, and Southern Cross is the regional terminus. It is the second busiest metropolitan railway station in Melbourne. 4. 2. Parliament Train Station (Spring St, Melbourne) Parliament is an underground railway station in the suburban train network of Melbourne, Australia. It is one of five stations (and one of three underground) on the City Loop, which encircles the central business district. It is the fourth busiest metropolitan railway station in Melbourne; in 2009 there was an average of 35,600 passenger boardings per day. 5. 3. Southern Cross Train Station (Collins St, Docklands) Southern Cross (formerly Spencer Street) is a major railway station and transport hub in Docklands, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is on Spencer Street, between Collins and La Trobe Streets, at the western edge of the central business district. The Etihad Stadium sporting arena is 500 metres north-west of the station. 6. 4. Richmond Train Station (Stewart St, Richmond) Richmond is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Richmond. It is classed as a Premium Station and is in Metlink Zone 7. 5. Collingwood Train Station (Stanton St, Abbotsford) Collingwood is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Abbotsford (despite its name), on the South Morang and Hurstbridge railway lines. Collingwood is unmanned and is in Metcard Zone 1. 8. 6. Macaulay Train Station (Macaulay Rd, North Melbourne) Macaulay is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Upfield line, just off Macaulay Road at the boundary of the suburbs of Kensington and North Melbourne. Macaulay is unmanned and is in Public Transport Victoria ticketing Zone 1. 9. 7. Victoria Park Train Station (Turner St, Abbotsford) Victoria Park is a railway station on the Hurstbridge and South Morang lines in Abbotsford, Melbourne, Australia. The station is elevated, is in Metlink Zone 1 and is unmanned. Most trains running on the Hurstbridge line run express through Victoria Park, with most trains on the South Morang line stopping, with the exception of some peak hour trains. 10. 8. East Richmond Train Station (Royal Pl, Cremorne) East Richmond is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Richmond, Royal Pl, Cremorne, on the Epping and Hurstbridge railway lines. The station consists of two side platforms. The railway line between the station and Jolimont passes though two short tunnels at the Flinders Street end of the station. 11. 9. Kensington Train Station (Eastwood St, Kensington) Kensington is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Werribee and Williamstown lines in the suburb of Kensington. The station is unmanned with very basic waiting facilities, and is located in Metcard ticketing Zone 1. A majority of Sydenham line trains bypass the station, running along a pair of tracks located to the north. 12. 10. South Yarra Train Station (Yarra St, South Yarra) South Yarra is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Frankston, Pakenham, Cranbourne, and Sandringham railway lines, at Toorak Road and Yarra Street in the suburb of South Yarra. It is 4.2 km from Flinders Street Station, the center of the city's suburban railway network, and in Metlink ticketing Zone 1. 13. 11. Clifton Hill Train Station (John St, Clifton Hill) Clifton Hill railway station is a Premium Station in the suburb of Clifton Hill, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It services the South Morang and Hurstbridge railway lines and is located just before the junction of these lines. The station falls within the Metcard Zone 1 area. 14. 12. Central Railway Station, Sydney. Central Railway Station (also known as Sydney Terminal) is located at the southern end of the Sydney CBD and is the largest railway station in Australia. It services almost all of the lines on the CityRail network, and is the major terminus for interurban and interstate rail services; it houses the operations of The Rail Corporation New South Wales; it sits beside Railway Square and is officially located in Haymarket; and it is the station closest to the University of Technology Sydney at Broadway. 15.
