Welcome to the Official Show Preview for Railtex 2015A very enthusiastic response from the rail industry means that our twelfth Railtex show will be the biggest for many years in terms of its physical size as well as content. More than 430 organisations will be ready to welcome visitors when the show opens its doors at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on 12 May. On show will be the very latest in railway technology and services, ranging from total train systems to the smallest specialised components. And alongside the industry’s best known names, many companies are taking part in Railtex for the first time, bringing new products and fresh thinking to the market – further good reasons to visit the show.

Alongside this year’s exhibition, we have our strongest ever programme of supporting events. These include a keynote speech by a leading industry figure on each day of the show, industry seminars, updates on current major UK rail projects and open discussion forums. These will offer something of interest for everyone and provide a great opportunity to gain insights into trends in rail policy and technology. Taking place at two locations in the exhibition hall, these will be open to everyone attending Railtex. Just another good reason to set time aside for a day or two at the show.

This friendly event will also be a great place to get together with colleagues or to develop new business relationships. Our ever-popular Networking Reception with drinks and canapés takes place at the end of the opening day and the 2nd Railtex Awards dinner on the evening of 13 May will celebrate exhibitors’ innovations and achievements.

Railtex remains the defining UK showcase for railway technology. This Show Preview provides just a snapshot of some of the many highlights awaiting visitors. Much more is on offer. Entry to the exhibition as well as the presentations and seminars is free of charge if you pre-register now. To register, go to www.railtex.co.uk and follow the on-screen links. For non-registered visitors there will be a £20 entry charge payable on arrival at the NEC.

Be sure not to miss Railtex 2015 – we look forward to welcoming you there!

Sponsoring and supplying the track for the On Track Display at this year’s Railtex is Tata Steel. Recently the company has supplied more than 7,000 tonnes of rails in 108 metre lengths for the new Borders Railway between Tweedbank and Edinburgh, which is set

to open later this year. At Tata Steel’s Hayange plant in France a new heat treatment plant has been commissioned to produce Stress-Free long length, head-hardened rails. Already Stress-Free rail has been supplied for main line projects in Germany,

Mauritania and Vietnam, and the firm has secured contracts to supply heavy haul lines in South Africa and Brazil as well as being named preferred supplier of heat-treated rails for commuter lines in Paris.

Tata Steel equips new Scottish line

Secondary signalling systemTrack heating expertiseMore than 30 years’ experience of designing, supplying and installing conductor rail and point heating systems for main line, metro and tram systems are behind the products to be shown by Flexelec. The company has installed 750,000 metres of heating cables since 1986, including equipping 1,500 sets of points for Stockholm urban operator SL.

In the case of points, the switches are heated by means of a cable held in place by a composite strip. Guard rails and slides are heated with plates fitted in strings so that the distance between them can be adjusted to focus power at critical points. Flexelec also supplies onboard products such as heating mats for drivers’ cab floors and consoles and heating elements for coach vestibules, plus freeze protection products for couplers.

Link2 will outline its work with Network Rail, partners and the wider rail industry to develop the prototype COMPASS suite of products to provide a secondary signalling system during periods of failure of the primary system. This has pioneered the use of true COTS, commercial off the shelf equipment in CCS systems and has developed a suite of exciting new products and systems to improve performance across the signalling portfolio – all done using the Agile methodology and at a cost comparable to outside-industry developments.

Link2 has taken both the track-based train detection element of COMPASS and points detection and control to develop products that are safe, effective and easy to deploy across a wide area to remove staff from the trackside environment and improve train performance. The products – P1C-points and the Stingray train detection system – are in the advanced prototype stage and are being prepared for operational trials. They have been designed specifically with Network Rail’s Lifesaving Rules at their core.

The company has also taken

a significant step forward in its scientific analysis portfolio, adding to its Six Sigma, Lean and Innovative Requirements Capture and User-Story capabilities by becoming a UK approved Arena Discrete Simulation Software Partner. This allows Link2 to augment its process analysis capabilities with the facility to model, simulate and re-imagine business, technical processes and rail traffic movement for business case development, safety and operational decision making and technical requirements development.

New from resin injection specialists Oxford Hydrotechnics will be pourable stabilisation resin for use in trackside locations to prevent the movement of loose bulk. The technique utilises a two component, polyurethane resin system that binds trackside ballast together,

inhibiting movement and preventing fly-off during train activity. The resin is poured directly onto the ballast to increase rigidity and create a weather-resistant buffer zone between the concrete slab track and the ballast.

The product can also be used to stabilise ballast during

under-track excavations thanks to the overall rigidity that it creates, and it has an adjustable reaction time, making it ideal for use in trackside locations that are subject to strict possession times.

SSL commissions modular signalling

February saw completion by Signalling Solutions Ltd (SSL) of its second modular signalling project following the successful conclusion of the Ely to Norwich pilot scheme. The Modular Signalling initiative was established to achieve significant reductions in the cost of re-signalling low density routes through the utilisation of innovative technology and a standardised “modular” approach to design and installation.

The East Notts Modular project is required to address the condition-led renewal of life-expired signalling between Nottingham and Grantham and Nottingham and Newark Castle, along with the closure of six signal boxes, transferring control to East Midlands Control Centre. In addition, the project will provide signalling EMI immunity required when the line is electrified. The signalling renewal is based around provision of the new Smartlock 400™ interlocking system. Included in SSL’s scope were associated power, telecommunications and civil engineering requirements.

SSL, which combines the signalling resources and products of Alstom Transport Information Solutions UK and Balfour Beatty Rail, is one of three companies participating in a major rationalisation of Network Rail’s signalling infrastructure, basing its offering on the well proven ICONIS™ traffic management system provided by parent company Alstom.

Schneider Electric to unveil power supplyRailtex visitors will be able to have a sneak preview of Schneider Electric’s new Principal Supply Point, launching later this year. This offers signalling supplies of up to 20 kVA at a fraction of the cost of a conventional principle supply point in a REB type building or ISO container.

The company says this will incorporate a number of unique features. Greater flexibility in positioning will significantly reduce costs. It offers alternatives of single-phase and three-phase incoming and outgoing signalling supplies, and provides one, two or three secure signalling power supplies up to 650 V AC. Power supply is DNO with changeover to standby/mobile generator, UPS with integral bypass switching, automatic UPS and signalling transformers. There is a standard ten minute reserve supply, with longer autonomy with additional batteries in a second location case.

The internal environment is managed to ensure normal operation under extreme climate conditions, and local display and remote monitoring via an integral RTU of essential aspects including alarms, faults and power consumption and quality can provide continuous surveillance and early indication changes. And maintenance time is reduced by design, for example by the use of a rack-mounted UPS.

Pilz continues PLC level crossing workFeatured on the Pilz stand will be its SIL 3 certified safety programmable logic controller (PLC) system PSS 4000-R, which has been made compliant with all relevant rail standards (EN 501XX) for communication, signalling, processing and rolling stock. It is SIL 4 capable when used in the correct architecture and has been used as such by Thales in Germany. This safety PLC system has been adopted in Europe to replace ageing rail relay-based systems at level crossings and in other signalling projects.

Standard PLC technology has been widely used in the machine and process industries for decades, and the PSS 4000-R is a more recent example of a PLC which has been ruggedised and independently certified to suit the environmental aspects of trackside and rolling stock applications – including temperature, vibration, shock, humidity and electromagnetic interference. Pilz says the benefits realised using PLC technology in signalling include hardware and project cost-savings, reduced footprint and attendant, sustainability, reduced system development time and risk, re-usability of locked/certified software (instead of hardwired logic expressed in Network Rail standard diagrams), and simplified testing.

Network Rail also faces a huge challenge to increase safety at over 400 level crossings during CP5, but at the same time drive down the costs presented by relay-based systems. Pilz will outline how it has been actively collaborating with Network Rail’s Signalling Innovations Group and various signalling integrators to get safety PLCs accepted at level crossings and potentially other relay-based interlockings.

Trackside powerDMS technologies will feature Red Flash trackside back-up battery power supplies for signalling applications such as level crossings, point end switching and axle counting. With its highly qualified design team, DMS technologies says it can produce battery packs either to suit specific power requirements or to fit particular shapes such as within a frame or canopy. Other projects have included powering security cameras using photovoltaic panels for recharging.

Exhibiting alongside the company will be Duvine Ltd, which specialises in providing AC and DC power for both infrastructure and onboard applications. A full range of approved BR1875 chargers and axle counting systems is available.

SIGNALLING/CIVILS

TEW Group supplies a wide range of signalling and safety products and services.

Unipart Dorman LEDsUnipart Dorman says the exhibition will provide an ideal platform to introduce exciting additions to its Lightweight Signalling range. These products have been designed in collaboration with Network Rail to meet the changing needs of the industry and are recognised as the latest generation in railway signalling. The range includes the Integrated Lightweight Signal (iLS) and the CLS LITE, both of which are ideally suited to electrified areas and have been used extensively by Network Rail and major signalling contractors on the latest modular and SSI signalling schemes.

The company says it is the UK’s leading manufacturer of LED rail safety and signalling products, with extensive ranges across the UK and around the world. It was responsible for pioneering the use of LEDs on the UK infrastructure and has designed and supplied over 100,000 LED modules for use in railway applications.

Unipart Dorman has pioneered the use of LEDs.

FLI piling innovationsFLI Structures, a member of The Haley Group, will present its recently launched Single-Pile LOC platform interface product which complements its existing range. This saves up to 75% on foundations materials compared to existing FLI designs, which already offer savings to traditional solutions. By reducing the number of foundations, there is less on-site installation work needed, fewer materials and more importantly less time required overall. There is also less risk of a clash with existing services or obstructions. Double and triple LOC solutions are available using similar technology. The product design has been Form 003 approved, and is currently

in use on Network Rail’s infrastructure in the Redditch area.

FLI Structures has also announced that its patented Flexi-Pile Cap has now been Form 1 approved by Network Rail for use in its electrification programme. This is designed to overcome on-site issues when 610 driven piles hit refusal or where mounting bosses fail during installation. The Flexi-Pile Cap will help improve the installation productivity rate of driven 610 piles at site locations where hard ground causes a pile to refuse and where the pile is out of position rotationally. With the Flexi-Pile Cap solution, installers can save time at refused pile locations by using the cap as an efficient remedial solution to provide an interface with the OLE structure.

RRV accessThe Universal Track Access System (UTAS) is the latest addition to TPA Portable Roadways’ range of portable access equipment. With a rapid installation time, this new rail track access system provides an all-round solution to the on-/off-tracking of RRVs. Approved by Network Rail, the patented UTAS avoids damage to equipment, has a 50 tonne load bearing rating and provides total rail head protection.

Two other products will be featured. The Network Rail-approved Lightweight Foam Track Access System is also intended for on-/off-tracking RRVs. The crossing or access point is made from two-metre foam sections each weighing under 25 kg, so they can be easily hand-carried into position. Only simple site preparation is required. Also Network Rail-approved is tapSTRAIL®, a further addition to TPA’s range for temporary crossings on project work. This consists of 90cm panels which are quick to install and are independent of sleeper spacing.

Platform safety boost Platform 4 at London’s Elephant & Castle station has received a new fibreglass Dura Platform passenger walkway deck system, drastically improving the passenger experience and improving safety by reducing stepping distances from platform to train. The Dura Platform system will be featured by Dura Composites at Railtex along with other company products.

The innovative design adopted at Elephant

& Castle followed the successful installation of a similar composite fibreglass platform system at Tulse Hill, south London, in 2013. A number of technical innovations were made for Elephant & Castle to drive further efficiencies throughout the supply chain, most notably during installation. Aiding Dura here was the company’s long-time installation partner, Hammond (ECS), which was the principal contractor to Network Rail.

New cable route products from AndertonNew products have been added to the Anderton Concrete portfolio – Anderlite, Anderlite 500, Ander-Clip and Ander-Fin will all be on show.

Anderlite is a revolutionary lightweight cementitious cable route system which not only reduces the weight of traditional methods of containment but also uses up to 35% recycled material. Another development is Anderlite 500 which further reduces weight by offering all straight C/1 trough and lids in 500 mm lengths. Both Anderlite and Anderlite 500 have full Network Rail

approval.The company now offers

two pioneering cable theft deterrents, both patented: Ander-Clip; and Ander-Fin. Ander-Clip is designed to prevent the unauthorised removal of trough lids by securing each lid to each trough by two trough clips and a lid bracket. Ander-Fin utilises a pre-formed slot in the base of the troughing unit from which cable ties/clips can be attached to the fin and secured at regular intervals within the cable route. This makes quick removal of large lengths of cable virtually impossible.

Kwik-Step launches modular platformsA range of robust and lightweight GRP modular platforms has been introduced by Kwik-Step, complementing the existing modular stairways found at over 700 sites across the rail network. The new platforms can typically be installed to provide a refuge at locations lacking any place of safety due to degraded embankments or minimal cess, or at Red Zones where track inspectors and work teams need to operate without a line closure or blockade. Kwik-Step says its modular refuges can be

installed at the required intervals and distance from the running line to provide a continuous place of safety.

The platforms are supplied flat-packed and all share the same modular design format, with a range of leg lengths to suit different embankments and ground conditions. With minimal groundwork the platforms can easily be installed by a small team within a single shift.

Examples of the GRP refuge and lookout post will be on display, as well as a section of modular stairway.

Arrow aims at train cleanlinessArrow Solutions want to improve their cleanliness ratings to make their toughest cleaning problems known to its experts. It says it will assess every challenge free of charge and provide an alternative way of solving the problem.

The company cites the latest National Rail Passenger Survey, which reveals that TOCs still have significant improvements to make before fulfilling passengers’ expectations. On a national scale, cleanliness satisfaction levels have remained stagnant over the last year, with 9% of passengers dissatisfied and 17% indifferent. With inside cleanliness, 10% of passengers are dissatisfied, while 8% believe exterior cleanliness of trains is poor.

Among products to be featured at Railtex will be Oxalwash, a thickened exterior cleaner for removing rust, iron deposits and brake dust, some of the most stubborn residues found on trains. The company also provides other exterior washing products, including daily use cleaners, degreasers, and rust and scale removers, plus interior cleaning products that remove ingrained residues as well as sanitising surfaces and masking odours.

System developments from telentInnovations and developments helping to shape the future of the rail industry will be on show by telent. Since it was first developed in 2006, the company’s MICA station management system has continued to evolve from managing security, SCADA and information subsystems to now include building management subsystems, integrating CCTV, public address, passenger information displays, help points, fire and intrusion detection systems and

more. telent will show how MICA is now able to manage these additional functions, and how it embraces Wi-Fi, enabling its existing capability to be accessed by staff via mobile handheld devices such as iPads and iPods. MICA has been deployed at busy stations such as Waterloo and Stratford Underground, and at the recently upgraded Reading station.

The company will demonstrate the use of sensors to monitor vital components within station

assets like escalators and lifts to predict and avoid failure. The Asset Condition Monitoring system is designed to remotely monitor an asset’s critical components through Red, Amber and Green traffic light style alerts with immediate text warnings and simple web-based trends.

Also featured will be telent’s CCTV development work, including the recent migration to IP CCTV at London’s Canary Wharf station. New CCTV Analytics software features

image recognition and interpretation systems that will highlight issues often never viewed except when needed due to an incident. And telent will show how the traction power SCADA system it is developing for Network Rail will control both AC and DC traction power electrification networks, including electrification system-derived supplies. TPCMS will serve all current and future electrification SCADA needs throughout the service life of the system.

Counting sensor boosts accuracyiris-gmbH will present the IRMA Matrix, its new, revolutionary solution for automatic passenger counting. To develop the system, the IRMA 3D sensor’s innovative detection principle has been advanced further. The IRMA Matrix system is based on a matrix of 500 pixels with which the sensor measures the distance to the object

and captures it three-dimensionally. The system also facilitates reliable counting under adverse environmental influences such as extraneous light, humidity or dirt. It makes it possible to determine the presence, stature and movement of people and objects within the field of vision with very high accuracy, giving a highly precise count.

The resulting high stop accuracy meets the strictest standards for passenger counting, enabling new real time applications in public transport.

Installation is easier, as all functions are integrated within the sensor, and the number of system components has been significantly reduced, enabling the IRMA Matrix sensor to be

connected to the Ethernet or CAN without further system components. The 3DIS (3D Image Streaming) technology transmits the sensor images in real time while recording the data, thereby allowing a subsequent evaluation of the counting accuracy without the need for manual counting.

r2p innovationsThree innovations will be presented by r2p – Rail and Road Protec, specialist in CCTV, passenger counting, infotainment and fleet management systems: the R16-X hybrid recorder; r2p Horizon Software; and the r2p Design Line.

Following the R16 I-IV series on which it is based, the R16-X recorder has evolved in areas such as performance and service-friendliness, with massive memory capacity in the highest resolution of up to 4 HDD – a world premiere. Similar construction of the new model allows companies already in possession of an R16 hybrid recorder to use their existing HDD in the new R16-X.

The company says the new r2p Horizon software will concentrate its entire product portfolio in one platform, giving customers more flexibility and cutting their costs. Modularity allows the selection of required modules individually to create a customised solution. Modules can easily be added or cancelled. And Horizon enables only one person to manage an entire fleet.

The idea behind the Design Line, says r2p, was to create a customer-focused and innovative camera design with an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The Design Line will blend perfectly with a vehicle’s interior styling, customising each camera to match operator needs.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Cembre to unveil product enhancements New accessories will be launched by Cembre which increase the versatility of its rail-mounted CS-SD support trolley by extending the scope and reach of supported machinery to enhance the accuracy, convenience and speed of use of wooden sleeper drills and impact wrenches.

Extension bars used in conjunction with a balance-weight cross arm increase the reach by 80 or 100cm, while a flanged wheel kit replaces the standard CS-SD trolley wheels, allowing the trolley to operate

where it used to have to be removed, for example at level crossings. An impact wrench mounted on the CS-SD trolley can now work with the longer screw fasteners typically found in level crossings and bridges by use of a vertical extension kit which increases the relative height of the drive of the machine from the sleeper.

Continuing the theme of innovation to improve accuracy, convenience and speed of use, Cembre will launch the latest addition to its market-leading family of EN 13977-compliant wooden

sleeper drilling machines, the SD-15PR-ECO. This has a reversing function to greatly assist auger removal and a

53cc engine with emissions conforming with “phase 2” of 97/68/CE, 2001/63/CE and 2002/88/CE directives.

Focus on insulatorsTE Connectivity will focus on its insulator products, including well-known brands like Raychem and SIMEL, which are being widely used to modernise railway.

Its composite insulators consist of a polymeric housing over a pultruded fibreglass rod to which galvanized steel or aluminum end fittings are attached. By moulding directly over the end fitting, moisture ingress to the fibreglass rod is prevented by creating a chemical bond between the fitting and EVA. Rail insulators are produced using Raychem proprietary EVA.

TE Connectivity’s hybrid insulators consist of a high strength ceramic core with a polymeric housing. This combines the best features of ceramic and polymeric insulators, resulting in high mechanical strength and excellent electrical behaviour under polluted conditions. Its porcelain insulators are the traditional choice for distribution line, busbar and apparatus insulation. Manufactured from high-quality, non-porous electrical porcelain, they provide a long life and cost-effective solution for the majority of applications.

Tratos targets cable theftOne of the leading manufacturers of electrical, electronic and fibre optic cables for nearly 50 years, Tratos specialises in the design, development and production of power, signalling, control, telecommunication, pantograph, rolling stock and intermodal cables.

At Railtex the firm will highlight a range of options it offers to make cable theft less profitable for the thief and traceability of the stolen cable easier for the police, with the added bonus of

deterring metal merchants from receiving stolen goods. These options include using aluminium or aluminium-clad steel rather than copper as a conductor, improving the traceability of stolen conductor through marking, and incorporating an identity thread or strand registered to a specific manufacturer. Tratos can also manufacture cable with a single fibre run amongst the copper conductor which would activate an alarm when cut and even, by use of an OTDR, identify the location of the cut.

Dormer + Pramet = Dormer Pramet

Last September saw completion of the merger between rotary tooling manufacturer Dormer and cemented carbide specialist Pramet, the combined business now operating under the name Dormer Pramet. Several recently launched products will be featured at Railtex, including a number of additions to existing cutter families in the carbide milling portfolio, as well as completely new ranges such as corner radius and super finishing cutters.

Products introduced last autumn saw Pramet adding to its range of tools for the rail industry – specifically for re-turning wheelsets. Pramet’s cutting tools are used around the world in the production of more than eight million railway wheels annually and this latest expansion supports its growing offer for the rail sector. The new Chip Breaker TF has been designed specifically for smaller cutting depths. Insert CNMX 191140SN and associated indexable cassettes with anvils have also been added to the range, while two new grades – T5305 and T5315 – for machining very hard wheels are now available.

Innovations from HellermannTytonCable management specialist HellermannTyton will present its range of ‘ladder style’ heat-shrinkable wire identification markers tailored to suit the demands of the rail and locomotive manufacturing sectors. The new TLFX DS is a carrier system from Hellerman Tyton that holds pre-cut markers in rows, like a ladder, enabling users to quickly identify the correct marker and apply it to the wire. It has been developed to make the installer’s job easier and quicker when removing markers and attaching it to a wire,

making the whole process cost-effective and more reliable. The rail-approved range has a heatshrink ratio of 2:1 and comes

in three standard market lengths of 16mm, 25mm and 50mm. With the ability to be printed double-sided, the TLFX DS range is available in both yellow and white, in addition to other colours upon request. The range also boasts a high oxygen index value of 38%, ensuring that risk of fire is at a minimum, and is halogen-free with a low smoke propagation, density and toxicity.

Special garments for special jobsThe importance of using special garments for special applications will be stressed by PHS Besafe at Railtex. Network Rail’s blueprint for getting “everybody home safe every day” covers a variety of topics including “never undertake an activity unless you have been trained, assessed as competent and have the right equipment, says Paul Sharkey, the firm’s National Accounts Manager.

He adds: “While most workers have a fairly standard

set of PPE, it is sometimes necessary to exchange this for specialist clothing to give protection against a specific danger, for example when working around live electrical equipment. According to the Sentinel card scheme there are over 80,000 workers registered to work with AC on their PTS cards.”

Besafe’s Arc:Gear range offers clients choice when deciding which product best suits their requirements such as base layer items like tee-shirts

and long johns and mid layers such as coveralls, jackets, trousers and sweatshirts. Besafe also provides ancillary items for other areas which need protection (hands and face) in the form of gloves, helmets with visors and balaclavas.

Sharkey also warns that all protective clothing requires regular cleaning to keep the colours vibrant and easily noticed. Besafe staff will be on the stand to detail the firm’s comprehensive laundry service.

Socomec gains PADS approvalAs part of its ongoing investment in the rail sector, Socomec has recently been awarded the prestigious PADS approval for its range of Masterys IP+ Rail UPS systems. The Network Rail product acceptance process provides assurance that all products for use on or about the rail infrastructure are safe, fit for purpose and do not export unacceptable risks to the infrastructure.

Representing the very latest UPS technology for the mass transportation sector, Socomec’s IP+ Rail range has been engineered to provide optimum energy efficiency for high performance critical power applications – guaranteeing network robustness even in the most challenging rail operating environments. Housed in a compact, robust, steel-framed enclosure, the system has IP31

or IP52 ingress protection as well as anti-corrosion tropicalised circuit boards: it is designed to operate in harsh environments where conductive dust or dripping water may be present. The electromagnetic disturbance immunity level is double that required by European standards, and low smoke zero halogen cables are standard.

Selectrail will showcase its Select-IQ, a dual microprocessor controlled fail-safe programmable twin timer solid state relay contained within a standard Q style enclosure. The two microcontrollers operate as doer and checker to control the contact (switch) state, timing, I/O and display indications while monitoring and displaying relay status and delay time remaining. Each timer operates independently to delay the operation of several slave relays of the same nominal value. Time delays can be easily and accurately set and adjusted by qualified technicians using the set of pushbuttons mounted on the display board.

RISQS explainedLast autumn saw the rail industry’s pre-qualification scheme undergo its most significant change in recent history with the transformation of Link-up to the Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS). The scheme is managed by Achilles, which will have its team at Railtex ready to explain further.

The restructure aimed to ensure that the customer base, comprising more than 110 buying organisations and 3,900 suppliers, was receiving a scheme which was working smarter and delivering the cutting edge innovations required. The aim is to improve, and to guarantee that the scheme runs in an efficient and innovative way, and is of maximum benefit to the rail industry. It is also designed to give suppliers a greater voice

in how the scheme is run. Consequently it is run by the industry, for the industry, with the RISQS board governed by 21 professionals representing industry bodies, principal contractors, train operating companies and infrastructure managers.

RISQS scheme manager and board member Don Clarke said: “Traditionally, and with good reason, the rail industry has been heavily concerned about health and safety issues and ensuring suppliers are adhering to safety standards when providing goods and services. That focus will continue but we are now starting to move towards including pre-qualification questions relating to areas reflecting corporate social responsibility such as environmental risk, carbon footprints and sustainability.”

Rebo Systems will be demonstrating one of the broadest ranges of in-house, desktop and portable systems for industrial labelling available to the rail industry today. In its range of products there are solutions for cable marking, safety signage, maintenance marking, electrical hazards, machine labelling and difficult surface labelling.

The SMS F1 is a new, multi-tasking device that is fast, durable and designed to handle a large range of heavy duty materials as well

as standard industrial vinyl. From one product, operators can produce shrink tube, self-laminating cable tags and zip fastening cable marking. The firm says its portable and standalone Rebo Toro is a new concept in sign and label production. It is completely independent, having a colour screen, mouse and integral PC plus its own long life battery. And the Lobo printer is a compact, desktop labelling system that can produce anything from file labels through to health and safety signs.

Top-flight performance…by rail

Discerning travellers deserve the best. Superior comfort and superior facilities, delivering a swift and seamless environmentally friendly service, all wrapped up in a state-of-the-art package.

When it comes to high-speed rail travel, there’s no doubt that Siemens has a wealth of experience. In fact, our high speed trains travel the equivalent of 12,500 times around the world each year. And with the new Eurostar e320, based on Siemens’ cutting-edge Velaro platform,

scheduled to enter service at the end of 2015 there’s even more reason for UK travellers to choose train over plane.

But it’s not just passengers who reap the benefits of our international rail expertise. We are focused on maximising return on investment and minimising whole life costs to keep maintenance costs realistic and give industry-leading levels of reliability. Why would you settle for anything less?
