ManypovertystrickenfamiliesandcommunitiesinSylhetandMoulavibazarregionaresufferingfromchronicmalnutrition.Morethan46%ofchildrenintheregion,under2yrs.aresufferingfromstuntedgrowth–asignofchronicmalnutrition,whichissignificantlyhigherthanthenationalaverage.FundedbyUKAIDandtheEuropeanUnion,Suchanaisasixyearprogrammethataimstopreventchronicmalnutritioninchildreninthefirst1,000daysoflifebyaddressingthemultiplecausesofmalnutritionsynergistically.Toimplementtheplannedinterventionssuccessfully,WorldFish,HelenKellerInternational,iDE,andotherinternationalandnationalorganizationshaveformedaconsortiumundertheleadershipofSavetheChildrenInternational.Oneoftheinterventionsaimstohelpcommunitiesgrowfishandvegetablesatthehomesteadlevelinordertoincreaseconsumptionofnutrient-richfoods.Asaresult,communities’nutritionalstatuswillbeimprovedover time.
