My name is Rae and I am a designer from Cardiff. I currently work as the Art Editor for an independent printed magazine called Pretty Nostalgic.

After leaving university and joining the world of Local Government, working as a cartographer and sustainable transport designer, I was saved from Cardiff Council consultations by two editors who had big visions for their small magazine. Supported by an Art Editor from Immediate Media, I began to learn a wealth of skills ranging from digital media to print. Over two and a half years I have built the website for the magazine, offered marketing support, and been the chief photographer for the magazine, as well as continuing my main role of overseeing the typesetting and design of the magazine, often including illustration.

At the start of 2014 an opportunity arose for me to become Art Editor. I now oversee the magazine from conception to print, making sure that our writers have input into each feature, keeping a strong integrity of the brand, and I work with my editor to create what we hope to be the most tactile and beautiful independent journal to offer British History and heritage on the newsstand. My strengths are as follows:

InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop are second nature to me; I couldnt be without them I even get a little maternal if they start to lag or crash, which doesnt happen often because Im also a Mac user.

(If any of your team use PCs, change that last point to PC user. Ex-council employees come attached with PCs so Im great at using them too.)

I understand the importance of consistency and a keen attention to detail is essential. I am also used to working with style sheets, grids, have a great understand of fonts and their combinations.

I have experience in managing contributors, commissioning art work, writing thorough briefs, managing budgets and deadlines and maintaining correspondence to make sure deadlines are met.

I understand Pantones, CYMKs, and RGBs inside out and Im a whizz at flight checking, packaging PDFs and proofing final files.

I absolutely love illustrating and will be happy doing anything from painting, to vectors, to paper-cuts. Im also a quasi-perfectionist, which means Ill experiment until the perfect result is achieved. I also have a lot of experience in image retouching.

I have qualifications in marketing, and have extensive knowledge in creating MailChimp and MadMimi newsletters, as well as experience in writing and designing blogs, and covering and promoting brands via events such as fairs and festivals. Im also proficient in using many social media and video streaming platforms.

I have experience in video production, and have had the opportunity to style and photograph shoots often throughout the last two years, which has led me to become highly proficient in shooting well composed and great quality images.

Im very adept at taking designs through from concept to completion and often pitch layout features, meaning that Im comfortable at explaining creative outcomes to linear minds in a clear, open way.

Im great at understanding Wordpress code and have enough PHP, CSS, and HTML knowledge to be able to highly customise and tailor blogs and websites quickly and efficiently.

I am extremely motivated and incredibly versatile when it comes to organising and prioritising my responsibilities. Im also used to working to deadlines, and thrive in busy environments.

I am a hard-worker. I care about every job I have to the very last. I enjoy my career and I am excited to push and explore every creative opportunity that I meet.

In my out-of-work hours I am constantly designing test campaigns to learn new skills and ways of thinking. I have a particular interest in branding, book design and packaging design. I am now seeking agency experience within a strong and innovative team. I am eager to develop original ideas to create and deliver well-executed outcomes to companies seeking creative solutions to help their brand grow. Pretty Nostalgic is a vintage lifestyle magazine dedicated to sustainable living, British makers, and reliving

the history of Great Britain. Starting as a junior designer and digital marketeer in issue three Im now

art editor of this brilliant publication. Each feature we produce is originally written with a rich variety of

photography, hand-crafted headers and background shots, and hand-drawn typography. During my time

in this position Ive expanded my skill-set to include media industry standard type-setting, photography,

styling and photo-editing, illustration and copy-writing.

Working with clients I try to develop concepts and brands for businesses. This involves logo design, website

design and build, and a brief guides to promotion. I also work personal projects involving prints and

die-cuts for children and parents. I am highly motivated, organised, and passionate about digital design

and marketing, and use all of these skills daily in order to run my personal and professional businesses

efficiently.

Worked as designer and marketing support to the transport team, as well as managing the pool bike and

car share scheme. Manage the production of newspaper wraps, materials for consultation, events and

promotional stunts. Have assisted other teams with the production of various materials and signage.

Oversaw the re-branding of the Keeping Cardiff Moving and Car Share to Cardiff website. Manage

any social media, including twitter, facebook and blogs, associated with various consultations and events.

Projects of note include the Future of Cardiff Bus Station consultation booklet, OYbike branding and

livery, branding of the new Cardiff Cycle Network Enfys, Cardiffs first cycle festival website, branding and

literature, and the annual Sustainable Travel City bid document for the Welsh Government.

Worked with a group of children to teach them about Graphic Design and helped them design a brand

and logo for their new youth group. From the initial drawing a logo stage I then taught them about styles

in art and other artists, and showed them how to finalise designs using software.
