TIMELINEPBL GUIDELINE

RADIO SHOW

A timeline that is short or long, ranging from a few days to several weeks, so students learn how to benchmark and manage projects of different sizes.

• Students perform their show over a number of weeks but most of the work is done well before the show.

• Script writing can be done as a whole class activity in the English Writing time.

• It can be completed in a compacted time period for example over a 3 week time period, one week for each section.

• Allow some time for creating play-lists and music riffs.

• Each group can polish and practice their radio show the week of their performance.

HOOKPBL GUIDELINE

RADIO SHOW

An engaging launch to hook students into taking on the project.

The “Hook” for this project is that the students perform live for 1 hour on a Community Radio Station. Potentially they could have a world wide audience on 97.7FM Casey Radio. They also get to:• Create Multi-media to include in their show

(riffs)• Interview special guests who have an

interesting story to tell• Choose their favourite music to share with

the audience

ACADEMIC RIGORPBL GUIDELINE

RADIO SHOW

Academic rigor and alignment with standards allowing students to master content knowledge and skills, and to demonstrate or apply that knowledge.

The Project addresses outcomes in multiple Domains of the DEECD Curriculum. The Speaking and Listening dimension of the English Domain and Working in Teams in the Interpersonal Domain are strongly represented. Other Domains that you could include are ICT, Personal Learning and the Arts.

You could also include a Domain that might be addressed in the content of the show such as History.

INQUIRYPBL GUIDELINE

RADIO SHOW

An inquiry into a student-friendly, provocative essential question that drives the learning. This question often drives the unit or is one of the larger questions in the discipline. For example, “Who am I?”

“What Do I Want the World to Know?”

This is your chance to tell a potentially world wide audience what you think is important. What message do you want get across?

It can be about you and your future, about your school, about your community or environment.

(Brainstorm ideas with your class and form some teams with 3 or 4 other students according to your interests)
