RADIOAFTRA Sets Up Picket Line At KROQ

AFTRA has established a

picket line and ordered itsmembers off stations KROQ AMand FM Burbank The union hadpresented its case to the StateIndustrial Welfare Commissionand has protested to FederalCommunications Commission theirresponsibility of themanagement in failing to meet itspayroll. AFTRA claims for backwages for its disc jockeys andnewsmen are in excess of $73,000and there is over $14,000 owed tothe AFTRA pension and welfarefunds. Many AFTRA memberswho have worked at this stationhave been reduced to povertylevel living standards and somehave lost their homes because ofthe station's failure to pay wagesdue. Their hospital and medicalprotection is in jeopardy. Morethan a year ago the station beganto issue bad checks to itsemployees on false claims bymanagement that they weremerely accounting errors.

The situation has worsenedsince then to the present state ofapparent hopelessness thatpresent owners will meet theirresponsibilities. AFTRA hasissued an appeal to the public toprotest to management and tosponsors to discontinue thisdeficit financing which does notreach the employees pockets.According to Claude L. McCue,Local Executive, Secretary, "thisis the first time in AFTRA'shistory that a local broadcasterhas failed to regularly meet itsAFTRA payrol I forcing AFTRA

by Candy TuskenCBS Records Convention last week held at The Century Plaza Hotel in

Los Angeles was attended by over 1,000 representatives of Columbia,Epic, Columbia Custom labels plus CBS Records International (whichboasted delegates from six continents.) Guests and Columbia artists (42of which performed at 5 banquet shows) were included in the week longmeetings and festivities which showcased CBS's unveiling of 65 newrecords by established and new artists in conjunction with a slide showpresentation based on the theme "The Family Of Music 74." Prior to theconvention commencement, a special concert was held on Mondayevening to spotlight performances of new label artists such as DanFogelberg, Kansas, Cottonwood South, American Tears, Sailor, etc.with concerts by Blood, Sweat and Tears, Mac Davis, Loggins andMessina, Poco, etc. held throughout the week culminating with a rareperformance by Barbra Streisand on Saturday night's gala affair.

Major merchandising campaign reviews kicked off the meetingfollowed by joint and separate panel discussions with special guestsfrom trades, radio stations and artists. Field representatives conferredwith each other and label management for discussions in retailing andpromotion. The comprehensive convention included in-depthpresentations of product, up and coming campaigns, artists plus CBSpersonnel achievements resulting in awards for several staffers. Amidall this hard work was much entertainment including "Turn Of TheCentury Block Party" on Tuesday night held on the "Hello Dolly" set at20th Century Fox Studios. The festivities included a magician, a fireeater, hurdy gurdy man, stilt man, jugglers, camel rides etc. with exoticfoods from many countries featured. No expense was spared in theelaborate staging, production and lighting for the convention which washandled by Chip Monck's CMI Consultants of New York with partner,Abe Jacob, handling the sound. A 32 man operating crew built the thruststage of 100 feet wide with a total of 225 mikes being employed and anwattage output of 397,000 ---actual preparation took a week. CBS heads,Arthur R. Taylor, President, CBS, Inc., Goddard Lieberson, President,CBS Records group, Irwin Segelstein, President, CBS Records andWalter Yetnikoff, President, CBS international all addressed theassemblage and expressed the convention to be the most expansive,productive and successful in the company's history. The convention wascoordinated CBS' Director of Marketing Planning and Administration,Christopher Wright who handled all the arrangement for the week-longextravaganza.

The ABC acquisition of Famous Music's Record Division from Gulf+ Western is creating a flurry of activity on high levels and anabatement of the same in the lower levels. As oneFamous employee putit "everything is very quiet right now while everyone is waiting to seewhat happened."Supposedly, as of last Thursday (8-1), the papers stillhad not been signed; only a letter of good faith had any signatures. Thiscould spell some potential problems as the fiscal year for Famousexpired July 31st at midnight and, technically, the papers would havehad to be signed before that deadline to be legally binding. So it is apossibility that the deal may be delayed a year. Regardless, newproduct flow has been stopped and there is a general letup of activitiesuntil the principals involved decide which direction to take. The rumornow is that if the merger goes through, Famous plans on dissolving halfof its present staff. ABC's head offices are on the West Coast and willmost likely want to have all of its labels under one roof. That, plus aduplication of staff, points to the possibility of a major staff layoff forthe label's personnel. This acquisition will also hurt the independentdistributors to a certain extent as Famous will undoubtedly sbedistributed through ABC's outlets.

The presidents and label representatives in the Famous Family suchas Dot, Neighborhood, Sire, etc. are in Los Angeles this week attendingthe ABC convention which will probably shed more light on this wholesubject.

Tying into this are indications that affiliate labels are starting tomake their moves as evidenced by a scheduled meeting this weekbetween ABC President, Jay Lasker and Neighborhood President andowner, Peter Schekeryk (who is Melanie's husband -producer.)Schekeryk is after Ron Saul, former National Promotion Director forWarner Bros. Records, to head up Neighborhood Records for him.Another Famous family member is losing its "Chairman Of TheBoard" plus a very lucrative deal which fell through due to theacquisition.

Herb Belkin, Vice President, Creative Services for Atlantic Records,handed in his resignation last Friday. Future plans have not beenannounced. This was a week for street rumors as everyone was buzzingthat MCA plans on acquiring Motown (which is really strange asMotown supposedly was bidding on the Famous deal!)

The potentially profitable Bridal Fair Commercial is to be handled byRosebud Music, Inc. owned by Red Schwartz, Steve Metz and MarshallLieb. Along with the presents,were personalized letters enclosed with the new Jim Weatherly "TheSongs Of" album explaining that Weatherly's appeal was "his sensualvoice" and "gorgeous good looks" all tied up in a nice package of lovesongs which has a "special meaning for women." You better believethat album will get listened to by some influential people!

RKO Radio and Coast Catamaran Corporation (the company thatbuilds the "Hobie Cat" catamarans) have a colorful, nationwidepromotion designed around the RCA gold record "Rock The Boat" bythe Hues Corp. Six Noble 12 "cats" will be given away in each of theRKO radio markets of Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston,Memphis and Ft. Henry Mancini followed Ms.Laine's set with a selection of oldand new favorites from moviesoundtracks. His orchestration ofother's compositions hastendencies of straight imitationwith little innovation which givesthe feeling of a pre-recorded(rather than a live) performance.Mancini's own works fared betterperhaps due to his familiaritywith them which allowed him amore imaginative touch. Histechnical skills are excellent, buthe would have been better off tostart the evening since he is moreof a mood setter, evidenced by hisdifficulties in following a highenergy act.

your experience in this area islimited.

But I have had the privilege, thepleasure, of working under -- beingat Capitol so many years -- probablythree or four different Individualswho ran the A&R department in fouror five different ways. Some of themwere very, very good, and some ofthem had some bad things. I'm thekind of a guy who is able to learnfrom other people . I'm not ashamedto take lessons and I'm a very astuteobserver. I was able to work withpeople like Mo Gilmore who waswith Capitol for like a hundred yearsor Arti Mogul, Mauri Lathower--these are all basically mypredecessors. Hopefully, I'll turn outto be at least as good or maybebetter than those people were inA&R department. I know I have a lotto learn -- I'm learning every day.But, I also know one thing -- thecha I lenge doesn't scare me. To learn.something more about this industry,and to get more deeply involved inthe music business is the only thingthat I live for. And I love that. Myfamily is the most important thing inlife and on the weekends, that's theirtime. I got to go out tonight,tomorrow night I have to go out withan artist and a manager, Fridaynight, it's my own, Saturday nightI'm going to see a group that I maysign. But, my wife is part of mybusiness too. She enjoys the musicindustry.

I'm entering into a new phase ofthe business and I welcome thechallenge. The one thing that I amproud of most of all is that I

represent, from an A&R point ofview, I've got something to offer thatI think no other person has. I thinkright now pound -for -pound, man -for -man, record company -for -recordcompany, Capitol Records is thebest company in the business today.I know there are bigger companiesthan us and I know there are moresuccessful companies (in the sensethat they sell more records andmake more money than we do). But,I think, for the size record companywe are, for the amount of artists thatwe handle, and for the amount ofrecords that we deliver -bring home,and the amount of profit that wemake per capita, I think we're thebest record company in the businesstoday.

I think that fact is becoming moreevident in the street too. Onlybecause I know from an A&R pointof view that there are many artistsof high calibre --artists that havebeen high on the chart s with bulletson other labels that come to us nowand want to -negotiate with us.

Have you ever gone after anysuperstars?

In this short a period of tittle, wehave not had the opportunity to dothat. I certainly would have loved tohave had the chance to get EltonJohn. I never had the opportunity to.I was supposed to meet with JohnReid, but I never had theopportunity. I Would have givenanything in the world to sit downwith Elton John or with John Reid.

Would you have paid eight milliondollars for him or guaranteed himeight million dollars?

I can't say that I would, withoutknowing the rest of the deal --whatthey got for eight million dollars.One thing is for sure: MCA had theadvantage. Just like when wediscuss deals, we have the sametype of advantage that MCA did inthe sense that MCA had the catalogso they had the automatic advantageof being able to give him, newroyalty rates on the old catalogwhich still sells. That's always theadvantage of the company that hasthe existing artist--superstar--withthem, if it's a good company. If the

Do you feel you lost a lot by losingShelter?

I don't feel we lost that much. Itwas sad that we had to give upShelter. I was with Denny Cordellthe day before he signed the paperswith MCA. He didn't want to leaveCapitol. He was very happy here. Wehad a very good workingrealtlonship between Shelter andCapitol. I think Cordell will tell youthat as well. It came down strictly todollars and cents. When we analyzedour deal (because we representedShelter from its inception from thefirst Leon Russell album that soldfrom 40 to 50,000 records to the lastone which sold a million units, so weknew the sales pattern and history ofLeon Russell and J.J. Cale and otherartists on that label better thananyone else) we were best equippedto evaluate what that deal was reallyworth because we had it there, blackand white. Everybody else had to

take guesses of royalty statementsor make qualified estimates. Weoffered Shelter Records, what weconsidered to be a fantastic deal.From our point of view, it was abreak even deal. If we dideverything right and met maximumsales quotas on everything that weput out on them, unless we brokeanother superstar on that label, wewould have just broken even. Andapparently, MCA offered themsubstantially more money than wedid. So these are some of the thingsthat artists have to take intoconsideration. If money is theoverriding factor in making a dealwith superstars, then I don't thinkthey should come to CapitolRecords. Capitol is not a company tomake deals to lose money. We're notin business to lose money. BhaskarMenon has put the companytogether and I respect him for beingprobably the most brilliantpresident of a record company.

You never hear about him.No, he's not flashy and no one ever

hears about him. That's theunfortunate thing about it, but it'sonly because he's a low key guy, hestays in the background. He takescare of business. He makes sure thecompany makes money. He makessure that the deals that are made atCapitol are such that everyone getsa good taste -- the company, theartists, etc. A group that makes allthe money and breaks the recordcompany ends up losing everythinganyway because they're still undercontract to a company thateventually falls apart at the seamsand they're going to lose, ultimately.A good group with a bad company isgoing to go down the tubes. So wedon't look to make deals wherewe're going to lose money eventhough we stretched the deal withLeon Russell because we wanted tokeep Shelter.

In the case of Elton John, wewould have analyzed the proposalmade to us. We would have made thebest judgement we possibly could

RECORDShave. We feel, as a record company,that we have services to sell that areworth money and people have to bewilling to say "Hey, this company'sworth it even if we have to takeless." I'm not saying that we'relooking to not pay money in thefuture to big acts, because we'renegotiating right now with somemajor acts --superstar category --that we're willing to spend a lot ofmoney for. We've got a lot of money.We made a lot of profit so we have alot of money to offer major acts, ifand when the right act comes along.But the one thing that I will,hopefully, see that Capitol doesn'tbecome is so big (and I won't mention other labels) that otheryoung artists don't get lost. I know,even on Capitol, of records that getreleased and don't get the full blitztreatment. Becau-se recordcompanies (and ours is no differentin this respect) tend to react toaction.

The only thing is that sometimes arecord company can become so bigand have so many big artists on itthat they actually have to go out oftheir way to sacrifice one hit foranother. That's the thing that I don'tever want to happen to Capitol andit's the thing that hasn't happened tous yet. I want to grow. I want to getmore out of us on Capitol. I want tobe very selective as to the artists wesign up. We've signed a number ofnew acts already on a very selectivebasis that we feel like we're going toget totally behind. The new acts that

, we have signed during what wecould call "The Coury regime" inA&R at Capitol are acts that thecompany is going to be totallybehind. It's not going to be "off thewall" kind of shit.

How many have there been so far?There have been three new

groups.Three, rather than ten or fifteen?No, I don't ever plan on doing that.

I don't want to burden myself withbiting off much more than I canchew. I don't want to become aColumbia Records or a WarnerBros. I'm not ashamed to even saythat. Those are big recordcompanies. They are verysuccessful record companies. Theyput out an awful lot of product, but atthis particular time I can't afford tobe like that.

Do you look at Capitol as being likean A&M?

I'll tell you what I'd like Capitol tobe whether it is or not at this time.

It's bigger than A&M isn't it?Oh, yes, much bigger than A&M.

We're a major record company inevery sense of the word. In terms ofgross business, we're probably thethird biggest company in the world.As far as EMI goes, we're probablythe largest company in the world.Warners and Columbia are probablybigger than us and then we're third.But, in the ultimate design, I wantCapitol to be a major label, as it isnow, and continue to grow andexpand as a major label --to do morebusiness, sell more records. That'sthe bottom line. But to do it on such ahighly selective basis that ourbatting average, hopefully, will bebetter than any other major label inbusiness. In other words, to put itdown to It's simplestterms, to release lessproduct and .have more hits. Thatwould be the lowest commondenominator. I think back in the olddays of what Elektra used to be, avery personalized, very selectrecord company that was veryclosely aligned to its artists. And itwas a very prestigeous type of label.Now Elektra Is part of Asylum andpart of WEA. The thing we wantmost Is credibility.

What are views about the

problems of radio today dealing withthe record industry? Is it reallytough? Are they anti -recordcompanies?

It changes. It's a very frustratingbusiness and promotion is reallyfrustrating. A relationship betweena record company and a radiostation is always a very delicate,very fine -line kind of relationship.You never can really be too friendlyto a radio station. Because there isthe fact that they are separatebusinesses. They, ultimately, haveseparate end results but the thingthat will always tie them together ismusic.

Most radio stations (and mostadmit this) are not in the recordbusiness. That's the classic line thata P.D. will give you: "Well, we'renot in the music business, we're notin the record industry; we're not outto sell record." Yet that same P.D.or M.D. will hire a girl or use theirPD or MD, depending on how bigand how much money they have,calling up all the retail accounts inthat city and find out what's reallyselling that week. They are in therecord business, whether they like itor not. They wouldn't be checking onsales if they weren't in the recordbusiness.

As a rule of thumb, you will findthat the biggest hits that they doplay are the biggest sellers, so onereally works very closely with the

mean it appears the situation isresolved right now because you candrive up to any gas station and get asmuch gas as you want. I know for afact that we have no trouble ingetting all the proper chemicals weneed to make resin for the records.But, you never know when thatproblem is going to crop again andit's a threat because the prices havegone up on that material and that'swhy you have noticed the prices ofrecords have gone up. The prices ofmanufacturing, distributing,trucking, whatever --all have goneup. I don't believe in cutting back.

I am enough of a realist to knowthat no record company can serviceevery radio station in the countrywith records. But I say that anyradio station that wants to play myproduct, whether it's Country, MOR,Top 40 or FM or whatever it is, if theywant to play my product, if they'renot being serviced by me now, theycan drop us a note. That's why I veryoften pick up a Gavin sheet or aRudman paper or yours and seewhere stations are saying I'm notgetting serviced from A&M, Capitolor whoever it is. I pick up on thosethings, and we try to service them.But sometimes it doesn't makesense, from a business point of view,to service a radio station in a very,very small city where there is

The country is divided in manyways, it just depends on how youwant to look at it. There arecertainly half a dozen or so majoraccounts -- rack jobbers -- thatcontrol maybe 60 percent of theindustry as far as massive sales areconcerned. But those guys are notgoing to play or put out a record ofyours, especially a single.

From here to Bakersfield orFresno down to San Diego is rackedoff KHJ. So even if you got a recordon both Bakersfield radio stations itmay not get fully stocked in the city.

I get the record into that marketthough.

Freebies?No, I won't do it with freebies, but

I will use freebies if the local rackjobbers won't supply them, but wenotify them. We have closecommunication with them. Forinstance, if we get a record on aBakersfield station and that accountis only serviced by the rack, we'lltell the rack that our record is beingplayed in that market and in mostinstances the rack will put therecord out. I have had instanceswhere they wouldn't and when thathappened I mailed one or two freerecords to each account with a letterfrom the local sales manager thatsaid "this record has gone on yourlocal radio station and these aresample records from Capitol and ifyou'd like to re -order, please order

"My philosophy to my promotion men is this:When you get a record on a radio station, that's

when your job BEGINS, not when it ends::

other. That's why record companiesspend a fortune by hiring the bestpromotion men. I know I spend afortune--- I pay them the mostmoney; I give them the mostbonuses. I don't hide that fact. I givethem whatever incentives I have togive that are strictly legal and aboveboard. Incentives that anyone wouldgive, like selling insurance, sellingused cars. "If you sell five cars thisweek instead of two, I'm going togive you an extra $200" or whateverit is. What we have to do to motivateour people to get the records on,we'll do. But, as far as the radiostation and record companyrelationship goes, it's always a verydelicate subject and situation. Thereare no clear cut answers. Theminute you think a radio station isdown on you or doesn't care about acertain record or your company ordoesn't care about the recordindustry itself, he'll turn around thenext week and do something for youthat will make you change yourmind. As soon as you think a tradepaper is going out of it's way to hurtyou, 'the following week, somethingwill happen and you'll be praisingthem.

Has Capitol done anything aboutcutting back on services tosecondary markets on LP or singleproduct, like not servicing a marketwith five copies of single or album?

Well, we had that vinyl shortagescare.

You say vinyl shortage scare.Does that mean that there really isnot a shortage?

There really never was anextensive shortage of vinyl. Therewas just a threat of it because of theenergy crisis, oil embargoes and allthat, plus the fact that during theChristmas season, when the scarehappened, there is anoverproduction on everybody's part,of catalog. Big sales of records occur

nobody in that city that is sellingrecords.

To give you an example, let's takeGrand Rapids. You have WGRD,WZZM and one other, all threerocking and playing 20 records andusually later than the rest of thecountry. Is it worth your while toeven promote that city - to evenservice that city 3 to 5 station deep?

Let's put it this way: we try toconvince those stations that we havehit records. If I ever find out that astation will not put on my recorduntil it's (for instance) top 20 inBillboard with a bullet, then I won'tservice them. If they come right out(and I'm talking about thesecondaries) and say I'm not goingto put Anne Murray or TheRighteous Bros. on until it's 20 with abullet. I won't consider your recordsuntil they're top 20. If that's theirstandard rule, or if I detect that'stheir standard rule, then I just won'tservice them until their attitudechanges. I won't waste my timesending a promotion man downthere and going to the expense ofmailing records to them --- as soonas it's top twenty, then I'll servicethem on it. But, I have never yet meta radio station that has a hard-corerule that, has ever said that to me.

But, are they important?Personally, I think that if there is

a radio station that is playingrecords in any category in any givencity (let's take Top 40 as anexample) where we are able to sellproduct, I think it is a worthwhilething. I think that's what we get paidfor as a division of a recordcompany.

Are there not 5 or 6 basic areas inthe country; Atlanta, Chicago, NewYork, Los Angeles, etc. that reallycontrol 80 percent of the sales? I

mean the racks. How is the countrydivided?

through so and so, or whoever istheir rack.

Say a radio station adds a recordon Tuesday or Wednesday, By thetime the redtape and mechanics aredone, the record may not even be inthe market that weekend.

I pride myself in being able to getthe records on in 90 percent of themarkets within 48 hours. I'mdifferent than any other recordcompany, other than someone likeColumbia who has the samecapability. We own all our owndistributors, so let's say that a

record goes on, in for instance, DesMoines of Chicago. Say it's a newrecord and it's not In that marketand it just went on, bu t we have5,000 records sitting Atlanta, but itsnot being played there. I Can justship them in from Atlanta.

It seems to be many times that ittakes two weeks before many recordlabels have their product in thestore. The radio station adds itTuesday, call the following Mondayfor sales figures from the stores whodo not have it in stock which, in turn,may hurt the record for the secondweek.

That's right and that sometimeshaaens. I have a system wherebyI check my own sales people. When'arecord goes on in the secondaries, I

know the minute that record goes on,my people are going to get it out thatday. But, for instance, in Omaha orMontgomery, Alabama, I havepeople who work for me that lust callup the retail accounts and ask within3 or 4 days the record Is out, I givethem that much time in thesemarkets, to have the record In stock.I have a report that tells me thenames of the accounts, and If therecord Is In stock or on order.

Now I just found out that it tookseven days to get a record IntoMinneapolis. I got crazed, you know

me--- I tore that town apart and thatwon't happen again. It's alwayschecks and balances. I check oneveryone of my promotion men and Icheck as much as i can on the salesdepartment. It's not doing itmaliciously, it's doing it only toprotect our own credibility.

It's a science. I have somebodychecking up on my own people. Notthat I distrust my own people, butbecause there could be a breakdownin communication. It could be a backorder situation and the salesmanwho just wrote that order and lefttown doesn't know about it whenthey're not there. I'll be able totrace it back to the factory and beable to get it flown in the next day. I

don't want to take up the salesmen'stime doing that, as he's already intothe next town writing up orders.Running a record company at thatlevel is not easy. When I tell you it'sa science, it's a science. Nothinghappens by itself. A record does notget into a small town by itself.You've got to be able to help it get inthere quicker. Sometimes it takes 3or 4 weeks before the record starts tosell even if it is in the store, I've gotrecords like that too.

My philosophy to my promotionmen is this: When you get a recordon a radio station, that's when yourjob begins, not when it ends. That'swhen it begins, that's step numberone.

So all your promotion men aremerchandising people?

Definitely. They are very retail -oriented. They have to communicatenot only with me but with the localsalemen, the local sales manager.

They go to stores too?They go to stores. We know what

our sales figures are and if we havea record that is selling and a radiostation tells us its not beingreported, my promotion men godown to the store and find out why.Most stations have printed lists thatare usually distributed through thelocal record stores, so normallywhen a radio station calls up, theguy that's answering the phoneusually reads him back the list thathe's got. So a new record could verywell be selling and no one remindsthat clerk that is answering theradio station's call, he inadvertantlyforgets to report that record eventhough it is legitimately being sold inthat market.

I'll tell you something, though:like any other business, the recordbusiness doesn't become easiertoday and neither does radio. Withall the demographic breakdownsand all the sophisticated means ofanalyzing what audiences react to, I

think radio is going through somechanges too. I think the biggestdanger to the music business is thetight playlist. The tight playlist is atremendous danger not only to themusic Industry, but ultimately, tothe radio business. Because if thereare not stations, that are willing toplay new products and not takechances, eventually all the stationswill end up playing the same recordsall the time and there won't beanything new for them to play.They'll end up only playingElton John, Paul McCartney,Grand Funk...without ever having aHelen Reddy or a Blue Swede orhaving anything new on the radio.Radio then would become very dulland people would find other meansof entertaining themselves.Fortunately, there are enough radiostations today in the business whodo play new records-- who will take achance on a new record that theylike or that they have a feeling for.And as long as there are stations likethat around, we'll be there topromote them and try to convincethem that our product is better thanthe next guys product.

Strangely enough, it's a U.K.record, "Beach Baby" by FIRSTCLASS, that's giving the newpromotionteam here our first big hit.This week, WPIX added the record,WF IL 24-18, WRC 16-10, KLIF 38,WRKO 27. Thank you PDseverywhere for your help. Everyoneat London Records said "Well,Wardell is bound to put emphasis onU.K. product when he joined." But,it so happens that Mr. King has 3 hitsin the British top 20 and when theentire U.K. staff around the worldnumbers only 7 people, "that ain'thay." We're giving Beach Baby T-shirts and beach towels away, andare shipping the album on August 15,before everyone puts the Coppertoneback in the cupboard and the fallrock concerts start.

10 CC's "Sheet Music " album isselling extremely well and theirsingle "Wall Street Shuffle', fromthe LP went from 28-21 at WCOL. I'llsend a copy of the album to the first25 promotion people who contact me.The group will be touring the USAagain this October.

My new major project is the newGRAEME EDGE single "We LikeTo Do It." It's the first solo projectby one of the Moody Blues; and, bythe way folks, they are not splittingup. There are to be solo andcollective projects from now on andGraerrte told me this week that theMoodies have installed aCinemascope screen in their newDecca studio to show continuousfilms of sunsets and waves etc.whilst they are creating their music.

London has gone into thesoundtrack business, and we arerush -releasing the music from "TheMad Adventures Of Rabbi Jacob" --a lunatic French farce that's takingin many American dollars at NewYork box offices.

Am leaving for NATRA tonight tohire a national head of R&Bpromotion for London, to furtherstrengthen our new team. Hopefully,some of us will meet (AmericanExpress cards in hand) ... andmaybe we overworked promotionpeople can buy each other a drink!
