Race Day FAQs 2017 What time does the race start? 9:30 am Sunday 10 th September 2017 Where do I park? All entrants MUST park at the Mintex test track, which is just a short walk away from Race HQ (Sherburn Aero Club). The entrance is on Lennerton Lane, off Bishopdyke Road (B1222). A map is attached to these instructions and a Google Map can be viewed here (the nearest postcode is LS25 6JG). There are a record number of entrants to the race this year (over 2,000), which will mean additional pressure on the car park. Please consider car sharing if you can so that we can ensure that everyone can get parked in good time before the race starts. The car park will be open from 7:15am. There will be NO parking at Race HQ or on the roads leading to Race HQ; these roads are part of the course. Do not attempt to park on the roads or at Race HQ, as you will be blocking the course as well as being further away from both the Start and Finish. IF YOU ARE BEING DROPPED OFF, BUT NOT PARKING, do not enter the Mintex test track. The access road is one way, IN ONLY, until ALL runners have left and are on Bishopdyke Road. There will be no exceptions. So if your driver wishes to leave before 10am he/she should drop you off on New Lennerton Lane at the point where the road narrows to a single lane (https://goo.gl/maps/J5ihtDJXeDA2), 400 metres before the Aero Club. Do not attempt to drive into the Aero Club. How do I get my race number? Race numbers are NOT being sent out in advance. Your personal race number (which contains your timing chip) will be available for collection on the day at Race HQ. Race HQ will be open from 7:30am and will be signposted from the car park. The attached map shows the walk route from the car park to Race HQ. You will not need specific ID to collect your race number; they will be distributed alphabetically by surname. To collect your number you will be asked to confirm your name and your date of birth. Please arrive in good time. Remember the race starts at 9:30am. Don’t forget to bring safety pins (although we will have a supply if you do!). Wear your race number on the front of your running vest or shirt. Do not give your number to anyone else. Write your contact details on the back of your number in case of emergency. What’s at Race HQ? Number collection Toilets Baggage store Limited changing facilities

Race Day FAQs 2017

What time does the race start? 9:30 am

Sunday 10th September 2017

Where do I park? All entrants MUST park at the Mintex test track, which is just a short walk away from Race HQ

(Sherburn Aero Club). The entrance is on Lennerton Lane, off Bishopdyke Road (B1222). A map is

attached to these instructions and a Google Map can be viewed here (the nearest postcode is LS25

6JG).

There are a record number of entrants to the race this year (over 2,000), which will mean additional

pressure on the car park. Please consider car sharing if you can so that we can ensure that everyone

can get parked in good time before the race starts. The car park will be open from 7:15am.

There will be NO parking at Race HQ or on the roads leading to Race HQ; these roads are part of the

course. Do not attempt to park on the roads or at Race HQ, as you will be blocking the course as well

as being further away from both the Start and Finish.

IF YOU ARE BEING DROPPED OFF, BUT NOT PARKING, do not enter the Mintex test track. The access

road is one way, IN ONLY, until ALL runners have left and are on Bishopdyke Road. There will be no

exceptions. So if your driver wishes to leave before 10am he/she should drop you off on New

Lennerton Lane at the point where the road narrows to a single lane

(https://goo.gl/maps/J5ihtDJXeDA2), 400 metres before the Aero Club. Do not attempt to drive into

the Aero Club.

How do I get my race number?

Race numbers are NOT being sent out in advance. Your personal race number (which contains your

timing chip) will be available for collection on the day at Race HQ. Race HQ will be open from

7:30am and will be signposted from the car park. The attached map shows the walk route from the

car park to Race HQ.

You will not need specific ID to collect your race number; they will be distributed alphabetically by

surname. To collect your number you will be asked to confirm your name and your date of birth.

Please arrive in good time. Remember the race starts at 9:30am.

Don’t forget to bring safety pins (although we will have a supply if you do!).

Wear your race number on the front of your running vest or shirt. Do not give your number to

anyone else. Write your contact details on the back of your number in case of emergency.

What’s the route?

The race is being held on an accurately measured 13.1 mile course. A route map is available here.

The race starts on the Mintex test track and finishes at Sherburn Aero Club. From the test track,

you will proceed along Bishopdyke Road (B1222), turn right onto Scalm Lane, left onto Broad Lane,

right onto Windgate Hill Lane/Long Lane, right on Station Road, before returning along Scalm Lane

and Bishopdyke Road to New Lennerton Lane and heading to the finish.

Will there be water?

There will be 3 water stations providing bottled water on the course at approximately 3.75 miles,

6.75 miles and 10.5 miles. There will also be water at the finish.

Please do not take more than one bottle of water from each water station; think of the runner

behind you. If you feel you might need more than three bottles of water during the race, please

consider carrying extra with you.

Can I wear headphones?

We’d encourage you not to; it really is better to hear your fellow runners, listen to your breathing,

take in the atmosphere. But if you feel you just can’t run without them, headphones may be worn as

long as you take responsibility for the volume to be low enough for you to hear all marshal

instructions and the words of those around you. We recommend that you wear your earphone in one

ear only. The race is run on closed roads, but that doesn’t mean that emergency vehicles or access

vehicles won’t be present.

What will be in the goody bag?

As some people like medals and some people like t-shirts, we decided to give you both: a high

quality, unique technical t-shirt AND a bespoke race day medal. And from our sponsors, an Up &

Running discount voucher, plus a chocolate bar!

Will there be anything for my supporters to do during the race?

If they want to they will be able to see the race from the skies! During and after the race, members of

the Sherburn Aero Club will be selling 15 minute taster flights weather permitting. More details will

be available on the day. Also, Digby’s Restaurant at the Aero Club will be serving food and

refreshments all morning and at lunch time.

Where will I be able to see the results?

The results will be published at https://racebest.com/results/vale-of-york-half-marathon as soon as

possible after the race.
