The word Sunnah means the way and manner in which our beloved Nabi b lived his life. The way he lived, spoke, ate, slept, the manner in which he addressed his elders, the way in which he conducted himself with his juniors, how he treated his wives, etc. In short, every aspect of the life of Nabi b is regarded as the Sunnah. Practicing on the Sunnah of our beloved Nabi b is the greatest achievement for a true Muslim. The only path to success is the path of the sunnah. There is no aspect of human life wherein we have not received guidance from our beloved Nabi, Muhammad b.

How can I Practice on the Sunnah?

Every Muslim should try his/her best to learn and then practice on all the sunnats of Rasulullah b. An easy way to achieve this is to buy a book on the sunnats of Rasulullah b and read out one sunnat a day to your family. Thereafter everyone should try their best to practice on this sunnah. We must also remind one another to practice on every sunnah.

Bringing alive the Sunnah

Rasulullah b has said that a person who brings alive a dead sunnah (i.e. practices on a sunnah that people no more practice upon) will receive the reward of 100 martyrs. Imagine what great reward Allah Taala will bless us with if we practice on every sunnah.

A Sunnah for Boys

One very important

sunnah for boys to

practice upon nowadays

is to keep their trou-

sers above their an-

kles. By practicing on

this sunnah we will be

in the mercy of Allah

Ta’ala. Tell our mothers

to hem our trousers so

that that it is always

above our ankles and if

it is too long, then fold

it above our ankles.

A Sunnah for Girls

An important sunnah

for the girls to prac-

tice is to keep their

hair covered at all

times whether they are

in Madrasah, school,

out of school or any-

where else.

Hadhrat Huzayfah bin Yamaan (RA) and Hadhrat Rib’ee bin ‘Aamir (RA) are the

conquerors of Iran. These two great Sahaabah were once called to the palace of the

king of Iran, Khosroe, to discuss some important issues. Before entering the palace the

gatekeepers stopped them. They asked them to take off their kurtas, as they felt that

their clothes were not good enough to meet the king. The guards gave them some royal

clothing and said that this royal clothing is better for you to wear before you meet the

king.

Hadhrat Rib’ee bin ‘Aamir (RA) refused to remove his sunnat kurta and wear the

clothing of these unbelievers. He then said to the soldiers, “If the king is not prepared

to meet me in this simple clothing of mine, I am not prepared to meet him either and I

will go back home.” The guard sent this message to the king.

In the meantime, Hadhrat Rib’ee bin ‘Aamir (RA) was repairing a broken part of his

sword which was wrapped up with pieces of cloth. The guard requested if he could see

his sword and mockingly said to him, “Are you going to conquer Iran with this sword?”

Very calmly, Hadhrat Rib’ee (RA) replied, “Don’t look at the sword. Look at the hand

that uses the sword.” The guard then requested Hadhrat Rib’ee (RA) to show him the

strength of the hand that holds the sword.

The strongest shield in the palace was brought. It was well known that nothing could

ever break such a strong shield. Hadhrat Rib’ee bin ‘Aamir (RA) struck the shield with

such force that it split in two pieces. Everyone was shocked at his strength and

wondered what had made him so strong.

The king then called them into the palace and invited them for a meal. Whilst eating, a

morsel of food fell on to the ground. It is a sunnah of our beloved Nabi b that if a

morsel of food falls onto the ground, it should be picked up, cleaned and eaten as this

is a great bounty of Allah Ta’ala. Perhaps the special barakah (blessings) of Allah Ta’ala

maybe in that morsel. Hadhrat Huzayfah (RA) proceeded to pick up the morsel. A

person sitting close to him tried to stop him saying that it was not correct for him to

pick up this morsel in the presence of the king. In reply, Hadhrat Huzayfah (RA)

uttered the following sentence, “Should I leave out the sunnah of my beloved Nabi

bbbb for these fools?”

It was only because of them following the mubaarak teachings of our beloved Nabi b

that they became successful in this world and the next. Practicing on the sunnah is

really what made them the conquerors of Iran. We should also practice on every sunnah

of Rasulullah b. Nabi b has said that the one who obeys me, loves me, and who loves

me will be in Jannah with me.

May Allah Ta’ala bless us all with the ability to practice on every sunnah of Nabi b.

The Miswaak is a great sunnah of Rasulullah .b He

Sahaabah to do the same. Infact the miswaak is a

sunnah that was practiced by all the Ambiyaa

(AS).

Hadhrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA)

narrates that Rasulullah b said:

'Make a regular practice of

using the Miswaak, for verily, it

cleanses the mouth and is a

means of gaining the pleasure of

Allah Ta’ala.

Rasulullah b has said that Jibraeel (AS) strongly

advised him to use the miswaak.

Rasulullah b has said,

performed after using

miswaak is better than
