Obituaries - Philip LederObituaries - Philip LederPhilip Leder,son of Meyerand JacquelineMeyer,previousCEH members,dies at 85.He was a medical researcher whohelped untangle the genetic codeearly in his career and later mademajor advances in understandingthe role of genetics in cancer anddisorders of the immune system,died Feb. 2 at his home in ChestnutHill, Mass.He had complications fromParkinsonʼs disease, said hisdaughter, Micki Leder.

Dr. Leder (pronounced LEE-der) wasa Washington native who began hisresearch career at the NationalInstitutes of Health, where heworked in the laboratory of MarshallNirenberg, who was awarded the1968 Nobel Prize in physiology ormedicine.In the early 1960s, Dr. Lederʼs workwith Nirenberg on decipheringamino acid sequences within DNAwas so groundbreaking that itbecame known to scientists as theNirenberg and Leder experiment.
