With machine locked out. Put your piece of wood beside the blade so you can set the blade height.

With machine still locked out. Use a ruler to set the width of your cut, from the fence to the outside edge of the stacking dado blades. Which is equal to the thickness of either ‘C’ or ‘D’ pieces.
