TORNADO WARNING PROTOCOL
• IF A TORNADO WARNING IS ISSUED FOR THE SAN MARCOS AREA, NOTIFY RESIDENTS
TO TAKE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS:
• TAKE SHELTER IN THE HALLWAY, BATHROOMS, COMMON AREAS, ETC.
• GATHER TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF THE HALLWAY
• COVER HEAD
• AVOID BEING NEAR ANY LARGE AREAS OF GLASS (HALLWAYS ARE SAFEST)
• STAY ALERT FOR ANY INSTRUCTIONS FROM UPD SHOULD EMERGENCY

EARTHQUAKE PROTOCOL
• IF YOU ARE INSIDE A BUILDING:
• STAY WHERE YOU ARE UNTIL THE SHAKING STOPS. DO NOT RUN OUTSIDE. DO NOT GET IN A DOORWAY.
• DROP DOWN ONTO YOUR HANDS AND KNEES SO THE EARTHQUAKE DOESN’T KNOCK YOU DOWN.
• COVER YOUR HEAD AND NECK WITH YOUR ARMS TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FALLING DEBRIS.
• HOLD ON TO ANY STURDY COVERING SO YOU CAN MOVE WITH IT UNTIL THE SHAKING STOPS.
EARTHQUAKE PROTOCOL
• IF GETTING SAFELY TO THE FLOOR TO TAKE COVER WON’T BE POSSIBLE:
• IDENTIFY AN INSIDE CORNER OF THE ROOM AWAY FROM WINDOWS AND OBJECTS THAT COULD
FALL ON YOU
• IF YOU ARE IN BED WHEN YOU FEEL THE SHAKING:
• STAY IN BED AND COVER YOUR HEAD AND NECK WITH A PILLOW
• IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE WHEN YOU FEEL THE SHAKING:
• MOVE AWAY FROM BUILDINGS, STREETLIGHTS, AND UTILITY WIRES. “DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON.”
STAY THERE UNTIL THE SHAKING STOPS
BOMB THREAT PROTOCOL
• IF A BOMB THREAT IS RECEIVED BY TELEPHONE, DO NOT HANG UP ON THE CALLER. QUIETLY
ADVISE A COWORKER TO USE ANOTHER LINE TO CALL UPD AT 911. IF THE CALLER HANGS UP,
CALL UPD FROM ANOTHER PHONE IN CASE THE CALLER TRIES TO CALL BACK.
• DURING THE CALL, TAKE NOTE OF AS MUCH OF THE FOLLOWING AS POSSIBLE:

• DESCRIPTION OF BOMB
• REASON PERSON PLACED THE BOMB
BOMB THREAT PROTOCOL
• NOTIFY UPD IMMEDIATELY
• THE DECISION TO EVACUATE THE BUILDING WILL BE MADE BY THE SENIOR DHRL OFFICIAL AT
THE SCENE AND UPD
• IF EVACUATION IS NECESSARY, STAFF MEMBERS WILL FOLLOW THE HALL EVACUATION PLANS
• NOTIFY YOUR RD/RDOC AFTER HAVING NOTIFIED UPD
• IF THE BOMB THREAT IS RECEIVED VIA EMAIL, FACE BOOK, WRITTEN NOTE, CONTACT UPD
