The Vision

Church PlantingGod’s plan centers in and around the church as Christ’s body. Through evange-lism which will ultimately lead to the plant-ing of confessional Reformed, healthy, evangelistic, God-glorifying churches that rely on the use of the ordinary, God-ordained means of grace, we seek the es-tablishment of a Reformed church-planting movement and denomination in Germany.

Establishing a Reformed Church in Heidelberg and

For All of Germany

Germany . . . once and now!Germany, the birthplace of the Reformation, is in sad shape, spiritually. Tourists see the church steeples all across the country. But rather than signs of spiritual life, they have become bitter reminders of a distant past.

Today, Germany is one of the darkest places in all of Europe. The proud atheism and agnosticism of its past philosophers has given way to a new paganism.

The largest portion of Germany‘s population is still nominally Christian. But in reality, Germany has long been a post-christian nation. Adding up the numbers of “evangelicals” within and outside of the state church leads to an estimate of about 1% of the total population (compared with 5-6% Muslims). Church attendance ranks at 5-7% at the most (compared to between 40%-50% attendance in the US). We have state churches with virtually no signs of life or we have all kinds of free churches, often with virtually no respect for church his-tory, the confessions, or the classic, Reformed faith.

At this point in the history of German Christianity, a truly confessional, Reformed church would be an utterly unique ministry.

Heidelberg and Beyond Heidelberg has an influence that extends far beyond its size. It exerts a particular cultural and spiritual influence on Germany. It also fits uniquely with our vision and our gift mix.

The heart of its influence as “city of science and teaching“ is the university which ranks number one in Germany. Traditionally, the university of Heidelberg is particularly strong in philosophy and theology. It can be said, that in many ways Heidelberg has created and still creates trends. But Heidelberg is also known for influential scientific research, particularly in areas such as molecular biology, cloning and genetic engeneering. The university of Heidelberg has produced seven Nobel price winners to date. In short, Heidelberg is one of the most influential cities in Germany.

Ecclesiologically, Heidelberg reflects the sad state of the church in Germany in general with very few signs of life.

Along with Heidelberg, we are also targeting other influ-ential cities in Germany for future church plants within this new Reformed denomination.

Church Planting for a New Reformation!A Reformed Church

Our vision is to see the establishment and the taking root of a vibrant, confessional Reformed church in Ger-many in order to spread the Gospel throughout the land anew.

By and through this church...

...we see the wider church in Germany being revitalized and envigorated for God’s greater glory.

...we see an engagement of German culture on a non-compromising level that will lead to a revival of true biblical faith.

...the whole counsel of God will be proclaimed once again and many will come to living faith in Christ.

...we see the legacy of the Reformation come to anoth-er, fresh, and lasting fruition.

We are convinced that we do not need another Martin Luther to bring about a new Reformation. What we need are simple, biblically faithful, confessional churches that rely on the means of grace (first and foremost, preach-ing and prayer), the means of growth God has given to us and which he has promised to bless.

Join with us and help us in this effort to establish such a healthy, gospel-centered, Reformed church in Germany!

By God’s grace, this Reformed church in Germany seeks to be such a church and challenge other churches to be such a one also.

We pray that the church in Heidelberg will be the beginning of a great work of reformation in Germany! Please pray with us!
