Rolfe Classic BMW Car Wrap Competition 2019. The all-new BMW 1 Series.

DESIGN Canberra and Rolfe Classic BMW are calling for students and professionals to submit Bauhaus-inspired designs for the 2019 BMW Car Wrap Competition.

In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the iconic Bauhaus design movement, this year’s competition has a Bauhaus theme. Proposed designs should pay homage to the iconic Bauhaus design movement which redefined what design could do for society and reflected the utopian ideas of its time. The Bauhaus advocated for an understanding of composition, colour theory and craftsmanship.

Interested designers of the car wrap are encouraged to attend an intensive design briefing on the 6th of September at 2:00PM at University of Canberra in the shared design space in Building 7 (See UC Map). For registration please follow the link.

The briefing will take students and design professionals through the competition’s vision, guidelines and technical specifications, as well as BMW’s history, design process and principals. The briefing will be presented by Anthony Martin, Rolfe Classic BMW Ambassador, and Rolfe Classic BMW Marketing Manager, Martine Pekarksy.

The winner will have their design applied to the new BMW 1 Series, as well as receive a BMW Ultimate City Escape package. The BMW Ultimate City Escape includes: a BMW for the weekend, a Midnight Hotel accommodation package which includes a nights’ accommodation for two at Midnight Hotel including parking, breakfast & dinner for two at Braddon Merchant. The prize also includes a gourmet pizza lunch for two with a glass of wine at Four Winds vineyard in Murrumbateman.

The car will be exhibited for the DESIGN Canberra festival at the Rolfe Classic BMW showroom in Phillip. The winner will also receive copies of professional photographs of the wrapped vehicle taken at Rolfe Classic BMW Open Day on the 9th of November.

Entries must be received by 4pm Wednesday 23 October 2019 and will be judged by a panel of Canberra-based design professionals.

- An Illustrator working file of your exterior design for the BMW 1 Series. - The Adobe Illustrator file must be accompanied with all fonts outlined and designs in vector format. - All images or illustrations must be high resolution.- A PDF of your A3 presentation document.- A project description and a short biography of the artist/designer/group proposing the design.

INSTRUCTIONS AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:You are required to create a Bauhaus inspired look and feel for the new BMW 1 Series.

Please submit an A3 portrait or landscape presentation document that will include exterior design for the new BMW 1 Series that encompasses the brand values of BMW. You will generate a document that visualises the design and if essential, research process involved in creating the exterior design. The document should include photographs or mock-ups of the application of the design. The PDF file should present your design and project description (up to 300 words) to support your design approach. Please provide separately a working Illustrator file of your exterior design for the BMW 1 Series.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:Entrants must be aged 18 or over at the time of entering the competition. | Submission dates: Monday 26 August – Wednesday 23 October 2019. | All submissions must be made via DESIGN Canberra website. Emailed or posted entries will not be accepted. | Incomplete entries, or entries submitted past the submission deadline, will be deemed ineligible. | The competition will accept one (1) design per artist. Any entries in excess of one (1) design will be invalid. | Entries must not have been previously published or won a prize in another competition. | Current employees of Rolfe Classic BMW are ineligible for consideration in the Rolfe Classic BMW Car Wrap competition. | Competition entries must be submitted as per the provided Instructions and Technical Requirements. | One winning design will be selected for execution and the design will be applied to the new BMW 1 Series. The winner will receive Ultimate City Escape thanks to Rolfe Classic BMW. The Ultimate City Escape weekend is a Midnight Hotel accommodation package which includes a nights’ accommodation for two at Midnight Hotel including parking, breakfast & dinner for two at Braddon Merchant. The winner will be recognized on the Rolfe Classic BMW social platforms and the vehicle may be displayed in public elsewhere. | BMW Prize Winner: All drivers of the vehicle must hold a full license and sign an indemnity form prior to driving the car. A copy of each driver's license will also be required. The vehicle must stay within the ACT & surrounding areas during this period. The vehicle provided will depend on availability and can be discussed upon arranging the date of collection. Pick up of the vehicle will be on a Friday afternoon and it will need to be returned on the Monday morning. Midnight Hotel prize is valid from 30.10.19 to 30.10.20 for up to two guests sharing a room for a one night stay including parking, breakfast for two, and dinner for two at Braddon Merchant. Bookings are subject to availability and some block-out periods may apply. Rolfe Classic BMW prize to be claimed before 30 October 2020. The car and the hotel booking can be made on separate weekends if desired.
